That really makes things interesting on the ladder! If the Crows win tomorrow the top five teams will all have four wins. Unfortunately we have clearly the lowest percentage of the lot (unless tomorrow is a big win).

Shades of us losing to the Bulldogs last season (and that scoreline has shades of our 2019 Bulldogs loss)

Edit: Geez, you'd be furious about this if you were a Lions fan!

Oh no, Dakota plays on from square and gets smothered

Are Port the only expansion team we play this season?
3x West Coast (Essendon, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide)
3x St Kilda (Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, Sydney)
2x Brisbane (Essendon, Hawthorn)
2x Carlton (Essendon, Port Adelaide)
2x Collingwood (Essendon, Sydney)
2x Fremantle (Hawthorn, Sydney)
2x Geelong (Essendon, Sydney
2x Gold Coast (Port Adelaide, Sydney)
2x Greater Western Sydney (Hawthorn, Sydney)
2x North Melbourne (Port Adelaide, Sydney)
2x Richmond (Essendon, Hawthorn)
2x Western Bulldogs (Hawthorn, Port Adelaide)
1x Adelaide (Port Adelaide)
1x Melbourne (Essendon)

So bottom 2 from last year get 3 games, Grand Finalists get 1, and everyone inbetween got 2.

Let's just see what happens.

Don't get too cocky!

There is a clear difference between the best and the worst clubs in the AFLW that its non competitive. Its not being cocky. Its stating facts. If Port beat us, its because we simply went out and played the worst game ever. Port are very much the GCs or GWS of their first year. They will beat sides around their level and play inconsistently. But they aren't at a level that should ever cause us any issues. They will come out firing though. Its a showdown, so should we.

From the little I've seen, Port have setup for defensive scraps so expect alot of congestion and hard hitting contests before I'd assume they fall away with their pressure and Adelaide run over the top
Isn't that the type of team we've destroyed historically?

We match up well inside, surge it forward and just pepper the goals.

To beat us, you need to run in waves, handball, and beat us with speed.

If Port actually plays like that, I wouldn't be shocked if we spank them more than we did GWS today.

Yet, if they try and replicate Melbourne's game from rd 1, or the Bulldogs from last year, we might only win by 2-3 goals.

I wonder how Port feel about Phillips being their highest paid player and she's only averaging 12 disposals and only kicked 2 behinds for the whole season so far.

Is she playing injured? Is she cooked?

Can guarantee she'll kick her first goal for Port in the Showdown.

Will be an interesting game, really dependant on if we kick straight early and put the game beyond reach, that helps the margin drift out. A bit like today.

Realistically we should get the job done but stranger things have happened in football

They got her for the feel good story and not the talent. She's 37 and passed her prime. Port couldn't lure any one decent from the Crows (other than Foley who was coming off an ACL), so who else would they pay the money to.

She is also valuable to them just in terms of being a mentor, a coach-in-waiting, and for showing their young recruits what is required to make it.

She'll have good games here and there, but even last season when she was still pretty good for us, it was clear that she was past her best. In 2017-19 she could impose her will on a match and put the rest of the team on her back. That 2017 GF performance is still one of the best individual matches I've ever seen, 28 touches (including 26 kicks), 7 marks, 7 tackles, 2 goals, 11 inside 50s, even the fact that she earned 7 free kicks. She could just make things happen.

By contrast, in 2022 she is a quality player who can make a good play look great, but she can't just turn a match on it's head like she used to. She needs the rest of the team to play well around her to have an impact.

And when you look off the field.

Marketing, merchandise sales etc.

the most interesting stat there is the Bulldogs record considering they jagged a flag in season 2, only have a winning record against one of the original teams, being GWS, and over the whole journey have a losing record

What I found interesting was that North Melbourne is the Port Adelaide of the womens league.

Beat up on those they're expected to

20-0 vs expansion/bottom of the original

Break even on the middle of the original teams

5-4 vs Fremantle/Collingwood

Then struggle vs the very best

2-9 vs the 3 big teams (Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne)
