Have to have a laugh, watching that ‘AFLW on Fox’ show post-Crows game and they’re talking about the negative tactics/look of the game and they show Nick Dal Santo’s post-match presser from today and he says that he coaches to kick goals first…

Melbourne’s coach also spouted some bullshit, of course the coaches only care about being scored against.

Port making St Kilda look pretty ordinary here. Up 4 goals to 1 and it's not even quarter time yet. Considering we struggled like buggery to scrape in a lucky 2 point win.

This would be Port's 4th win in a row if they get it, and would put them in the top 8.

Edit: 5 goals to 1 at quarter time.

That dodgy AFL recruiting rule-change that only applied to Port that gave them access to Scholz is really starting to pay full dividend now.

Full-on player handouts aside, they have been setup really well with their pressure game which is led by their midfield, Daniel Merrett has brought that area from Brisbane’s game over and it’s having a big impact on their games.

Port would fancy us in a final, gotta hope we avoid them.

I’d hold some judgment on Port as I believe they have been helped immensely in their games at Alberton by their familiarity with conditions especially that strong wind to the left in games which has allowed them to take advantage of teams that they’ve played against there by shutting down quarters when they kick against it with Scholz tapping balls straight to her feet, them bringing extras up to stoppages and those tough tackling machine midfielders of their’s going to work to turn it into a repeat stoppage-fest.

Teams just need to find a way to break-even with Scholz & get it past Dowrick and get it on the outside like Richmond did to them earlier in the season and I still think you can make them look ordinary and try to take advantage of their weaker defence.

That Freo win against West Coast tonight is exactly why teams like the Bulldogs play like they did a couple of weeks ago, Freo get 3 goals in the 1st quarter then drop numbers behind the ball to protect the lead, the Eagles have nearly all the territory for the next 3 quarters but a mixture of Freo’s very strong defence & Freo’s midfielders dropping back as well as West Coast’s forward line resembling a heard of confused sheep stop any goals being scored.

Very handy for us, although I'm still quietly hoping that Melbourne miss the top 8. I wouldn't fancy having to face them after losing a qualifying final.

I hope they make it and knock out some pretenders who are in the top 8 after easy draws.

Geelong do us a massive favour and beat Brisbane by 10 points! If we win today we should go ahead of Brisbane on the ladder. Top 2 is still a possibility if we can get a win our remaining matches (including North next week) and Hawthorn drops one more match.

Given that North will almost certainly finish top, finishing 2nd at least gives us a pathway to avoid them before the GF. Hard to see anyone beating them this year, though.

Hawthorn have the Dees next week, which I would expect them to lose given how much better Melbourne are looking with a few back from injury. But given how awful we've looked in our last two matches at Norwood, hard to see any results other than a bit of a pantsing against North unfortunately.

I agree. Honestly, it's hard to see North losing again to anyone this year, regardless of venue.

Still, with Richmond and Brisbane both losing this week, at least we have a bit of a buffer for finishing top 4.

The tricky part is that our last game is against Geelong whose best is very good, they're the only side to take points off North so far this year. They were also held goalless against Carlton so consistency clearly an issue.

Got smashed by Hawthorn as well, and yet beat Brisbane today. They're a bit all over the place, but playing them at GMHBA is not ideal.

Still, if we're not good enough to beat them, we're probably not going to win the flag this year anyway.

Been checking out the ladder and think Hawthorn are an interesting one.

They've literally only played us (3rd) and Freo (6th) in the top 8, with Richmond (5th) and Melbourne (9th) to come.

Have avoided both NM and BRI.

If we could hold on to 3rd and get them first week of finals, would be ideal.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Hawthorn don’t win another game this season. They’ve had a really soft draw.

It would be great, but unfortunately unlikely. If we lose to North but beat Geelong, Brisbane will likely go ahead of us, sending us down to to either 4th (playing North first up), or 3rd if Hawthorn lose both their matches (playing Brisbane first up). It's hard to see Brisbane losing to either Sydney or St Kilda in the last two rounds so we need to win both matches and hold our percentage lead to stay ahead of them.

And even if we do somehow beat North and Geelong, that opens up the possibility that Hawthorn could win their final two games and take top spot, and we'd end up 3rd and playing North first up anyway. I suppose in that scenario our percentage could drop enough to send us to 4th and give us the matchup against Hawthorn.

Most likely scenario is that we end up playing North in the first final, unfortunately.

Edit: All of the above is assuming we do finish top 4, but if we get thrashed this week that could be in danger. Currently we're a win and plenty of percentage ahead of 5th place, but if we cop a ten-goal loss this week our percentage could drop as much as 50%. That could leave us needing to win well against Geelong in the final round just to hold onto a top 4 spot.

Needless to say, we need a good showing this Friday.

The fact that they are still a chance to finish top, and likely to finish 2nd, despite not having played two of the top 4 teams and having lost big to the other one, is an indictment on the short season. If the conference embarrassment in 2019 was enough to get them to change things, hopefully this will also spur action.
