It's their job to coach. It's not their job to be abusive.
I think there are particular situations that call for you to bake someone as a coach. Not saying you should be abusive all the time. We will agree to disagree.

So do players who were given an out by Scythe94

Follow along gand
Was hardly an out, I was just saying that it's a commonly used excuse for players, and if that's what gives them immunity, it doesn't really fly for coaches.

I just don't get the archaic way of thinking – why is it a big ask not to abuse people in their place of work (or at all, really), even if it is on a footy field? There's plenty to get emotional and passionate about (part of the reason we love the game), but I just don't get why attacking people is fine and dandy in the eyes of some.

Anyway, this discussion could be fairly meaningless if he wasn't actually abusing the umpire, so I'll wait to hear more.

It's just a bit disappointing that people leap to the defence of the offender (particularly one with very exposed form) in these sorts of situations, like they're in some extremely high stress environment that gives them the right to be shitty people.

Absolutely disagree if you're referring to abuse, here.
Abuse is a very broad word. Different degrees. Swearing at someone to get a point across would be on the lower end and not particularly worth getting upset over I'd have thought.

Conversely not everything has to be the end of the world and a national news story.

Yes and no. If you want to make a commitment to stamping out that sort of behaviour at lower levels, you need to be seen doing it at a higher level. That's how the example is set.

I agree that some things are overblown, and perhaps this story shouldn't have been plastered all over the news before all the facts were confirmed, but that's just the way it is with media, for better or worse.

I dont agree with that, you can have different rules at lower levels than top level. Ban all movies and TV shows then because of there influence. It's Helen Lovejoy 2.0

I don't really get what the movies and TV line is about? Also we do have a staggered classification system for TV/Movies/Games so to moderate what is shown to whom - so there are differing rules on what is considered acceptable for childrens or general entertainment vs teens, adults etc.

I'm equating it to the notion than anything anyone sees must be ok at lower levels then.

Alistair Clarkson said campaigner so every coach at the lower level now is gonna do it and think it's ok

Calling anyone a hecking campaigner is not ok in public or private life. Only exception being if they have done unspeakable things. That's the line imo no matter who you are.
Or if they are your great mate.

So you would be ok with a player being rubbed out for saying that to another player?

There’s a difference between spraying a player and an official…
