I doubt Kennedy plays for another 3 years though.

I dunno, he's pretty fit as a general rule and he's showing no real signs of slowing down yet. Could easily see him going for 2 more years after this one.

I can't work out the logic of our recruiters. Losing Mitchell and Priddis from the midfield and picking 2 talls with our first pick. I say the person who made this decision should be given a 'please explain.' I would have pulled the trigger on Kelly on our second pick and would not have been disappointed if he was our first pick seeing as our midfield is our weakest link. We need an inside bull. I don' know why our recruiters are so blind. Seriously are we happy with Masten Gaff and Redden to continue running through there?

Certainly seems like they panicked a bit at the draft. I think a first rounder might have been pushing it for Kelly, but there was definitely plenty of merit in taking either him or Fogarty over Allen once we'd taken Brander.

It's smart, which makes me wonder why we don't spend some of our millions of dollars to do the same.

Travel stuff was counted towards the off field salary cap until this season. I half suspect that flights were included in that.

5 years is a long time. Oscar Allen would have to become a superstar. When are we going to address the problem in the midfield? We traded away our first pick in next year's draft.

The question was his disposal which looks rushed at times , would have been real handy for our midfield though .... might have come down to Ryan or Kelly probably never a chance of both .

Considering he looks better than 3/4 of our current midfielders I think it's fairly big miss to be honest. Certainly would have helped us compete in finals before the end of Kennedy & Nic Nat's careers which Allen is unlikely to do.

Tim Kelly has been good but, on the plus side, Nakia Cockatoo, who was the one that got away a few years before Tim Kelly, has been invisible.

Given that Kelly is a ready made player that could continue to play good football for the next few years while talls usually need 2-3 years to develop. You'd hope that Oscar Allen becomes a superstar to justify that selection.
Taking in consideration that Brander was already picked and other talls are waiting in line.

In hindsight yes but we were always taking youth with our first two selections ...which we did then went with mature age player or two , Kelly was gone we took Ryan . Fritsh was on our wish list also as a Mature age player , drafted by Melbourne the pick before ours at pick 32 ( Ainsworth ) .

Fair point, if Allen turns out to be a tall forward and not a midfielder though would you care to speculate what we do with all the spare talls we'd have available to play in our forward line? The criticism of not taking Kelly stems more from that fact that we need more top line midfielders and we waited until the end of the draft to actually take any. Kelly is playing pretty well for Geelong right now though....

Exactly. I thought that going into the draft we were going to address the midfield problem considering we traded away our first pick in next year's draft which is supposed to be a good draft for mids.
