I don't see the issue with how the lady handled it - if a well known AFL player made a ludicrous threat like that towards me I'd be more likely to contact the club than the police.
Agreed.

Added to the fact that dealing with police for potential violent, gendered assault and interpersonal/domestic violence matters can be frequently emotionally stressful & prolonged, it makes sense she contacted the assailant's employer first before even considering legal justice.

Doesn't bode well for Muzza.

Doesn't seem to be a lot made of the fact he was pissed during pre season training?? Obviously not training at the time, but I would've thought most players would be on pretty strict diets etc this time of year.

Nah they can still pump a few beers through pre season, not unusual to see the guys on their social media with a bevvy. They probably just try and hit the vodka limes to keep the cals down.

Dustin was hitting more lines than limes by the sounds of it.

I don't often agree with Bartlett but I certainly do in this instance. A 12 month ban for that kind of behaviour sets a good precedent. The gender thing is particularly important. Violence against women is the #1 social issue in Australia currently and for a role model for many young males to act this way is completely unacceptable. The AFL are currently looking to establish a women's league and are working hard to increase women participation in various roles throughout the sport. Actions like this undo that good work and therefore should be treated extremely seriously.

I think they have been far too lenient on players (including those from West Coast) in the past whereas a tougher stance will be short term pain for long term gain. Young people can and will make mistakes but they should be held responsible and accountable for their actions no matter who they are or how talented they are. If they are being paid a premium "as celebrities/entertainers" then they have to accept harsher penalties when they behave poorly.

My sister was at the same restaurant that night, she said dusty walked past maybe 5-6 times to go to the bathroom. And he'd been at stereosonic all day. And think about how rowdy you need to be as a celeb in a restaurant to get asked by a patron to settle down.
You fill in the blanks

I don't find the Dusty situation funny at all, threatened a woman, apologised with an "if I" which no real apology starts with. I think 12 months is too heavy but I think he certainly deserves some kind of suspension.

Interesting to see what happens. He is one of, if not the, most importanat player in their side. Do they take a stand and give him a big suspension, or do they do what's in the best interest of the club, and give him a soft 2 match ban?? I think I know which one is more likely.....

But I do like how the alcohol gets the blame. "Its the alcohol...believe me its the alcohol...can I just get it shown on record that I was intoxicated by a completely legal available drug that should draw no further investigation into my toxicity and what may have been found on my person".

Its all very believable.

If he'd been at Stereosonic all day, there is no chance he wasn't on the gear.

without a doubt.

Regardless, stimulants or no stimulants, it's frustrating how he basically blamed his actions on being pissed - said something like "it's unfortunate that I was under the influence..."

As if it was just unlucky that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Someone from the Richmond board wrote this: "And linking this to domestic violence? Come on. He got too drunk and said something stupid."

Like being drunk is an excuse for abusing someone. I am sure that many an abused woman has heard 'sorry, i was drunk, it was stupid.' I have no idea what actually went down in the situation, but if the media's account is correct then Dustin Martin does not look good in any light.

& rack up huge lines:D

TBH once i get past about 10 pints im in the pisser about every 20 minutes after that (at that point im drinking pints faster than that but hey)

No excuses for his actions however im disgusted that people still consider violence towards women as some special thing. Violence towards anyone/thing should be considered completely intolerable. You punch my mate, my mrs, my kid or my dog you're going to get the same response.
