Worst part is Ratten is actually a decent coach, not his fault the Saint's list is flaky at best.

We’re probably set by now, but I wouldn’t be unhappy if we offered him an assistant role over here

He’d be an upgrade on Webster

St Blunders FFS.

They have sacked more coaches than I care to remember, what a cluster* of a Club.

It feels like they've gone under the radar, but St Kilda has been easily the worst club in over a decade now. Other clubs may have had lower lows but the Saints have been in no-man's land the entire time.

Gold Coast at least started with nothing and myriad disadvantages. Carlton had a couple goodish years and then actually built a list after being truly dogshit.

But this is ridiculous, Ratten may be a dud but unless he personally handled their terrible list management during his tenure, what was he supposed to do?

12 years of mediocrity and they have arguable the worst list in the AFL, neither young and talented nor old and experienced.

LIke **** me, just call it already.

1. Contracted coach sacked.
2. Zero warning or speculation.
3. A failure club desperate for success.
4. No obvious coaching candidates.

It's gotta be Ross, please dear god let it be Ross. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Oh geez I've got a semi.

They’ve actually gone 31-30 under Ratten which is their best 3 year run of the last decade and he still got the arse

Another day and another reason why I appreciate the club/board/management we have. What a joke some clubs are. They literally re-signed him MONTHS ago.

Huh? You shit on the Eagles office more than most.

Ratten does seem like a genuinely nice guy. I think he can coach, just has a team that on paper looks good but lacks genuine star power. They were cruising at 8-3 at the bye and reversed that in the back end. How fortunes can change quickly.

There’s a reason they tried to offer up Clark and 9 to get 3 from North. They would benefit from a line breaker like Tsatas.

Does a new coach get something out of them? They’ve probably got 2-3 years before they fully bottom out again.

Never understood the Ratten appeal as coach, maybe it’s that red face and flustered look that makes him seem like he has no idea.
Need to get rid of the cloggers which they have many and slowly build again.

The timing of it all is just ridiculous, from list management, trading all the way down to coaching staff, the whole AFL really seems to just be winging it.

What we actually paid was Pick 15, F1, F2 & F4, and got back Gunston, Dunkley an F2, 2xF3 and a crap ton of picks in this draft (36, 38, 55, 56).

We traded out pick 15 for pick 21 and a F2 (GWS).

Then traded out F2 (GWS) to the Suns for 25, 36 & 56.

Then traded 25 to Geelong for 38, 48, 55, F2 (Gee) & F4 (Gee).

Then we traded 48 & F4 (Bri) to Hawthorn for Gunston.

Then we traded 21 (from GWS) + our own F1 & F2 + F4 (Gee) for Dunkley + F3 (Mel) & F3 (Bul).

So we turned pick 15 our own F1, F2 & F4 in to Gunston and Dunkley, and also got back an extra 500+ points in this draft, plus an extra 350+ points in next years draft.
Kelly - 14,24,33, F1 + some swapping about with later picks

Dunkley - 21,F1,F2 + some swapping about with later picks

If you knock out the pick 14 we gave up the rest is broadly equivalent, meaning we paid an extra late first round pick. It was a fair bit more than Brisbane traded for Dunkley
Gotcha. Obviously didn’t read it properly

Would that even be legal?

Be a pretty interesting court case if it was challenged.

As in the AFL policy requirement, not so much the break clause itself.

In contract, the courts generally will want to “honour” what the parties agreed to.

But when it comes to employment contracts, they can be a different kettle of fish.
