Well Sydney have the advantage of actually being able to have priority access to their academy kids. Get to educate them on their system, learn about what type of character they are etc etc

And the costs are not only outside the soft cap, they’re also subsidised by the AFL

If West Coast were to spend money developing kids Sydney academy style they’d have no guaranteed access. So the indirect benefit would be a better knowledge of any kids ability/character. Spending would be outside the soft cap but it wouldn’t be subsidised and they’d still be pouring millions into the WAFL each year miles over and above what any other club in the league does to their respective state leagues

Could see him making a break away competition to get rid of all the rubbish sides that bring little to the table and make the game elite.
A competition which isn’t run by the old VFL sides and Vic government and allows the clubs that run well to grow and prosper.
Clubs with zones that pour millions back into local footy because they have to get the best talent and we play for the Benson and Hedges World Series cup and emu export signs are put around Perth stadium and coaches like Mal Brown, John Todd, Kevin Sheedy and Malcolm Blight(pathetic Pitman) lead the teams.

I think a genuine breakaway league for any chance of success would cost at least a couple of billion in start up and then likely a few hundred million every year for a few years.

The AFL should never have been set up as an expanded VFL. Opportunity for a truly national competition was squandered in the 80s.
