If we can't stop their run and handball game, then probably not.

Our small forwards are not greatgood defensive runners, because they're so focused on offence, with one or two always playing deep, while Daniher and Hipwood get up the ground, so we'll be exposed on the turnover on half forward rather bad.

We've changed our defensive structure significantly, so it'll be interesting to see if it holds up against a team that runs in waves so much.

Interesting, will be good see what happens there.

I lived in Brisbane last year and worked for a sponsor, so saw a heap of games. And being at the games, it was pretty clear that the defence on transition just wasn't there, not enough pace, pressure or shape.

So will be keen to see what they've changed.

No point copying Collingwood’s game plan.

By the time we have our list ready to contend again, the game will have moved on

Need to come up with a system that suits the skillset of the list and gets ahead of the competition

Simpson did it in 2018. Took 5 years to implement. The challenge will be whether he can do it again and if so whether we can sustain it for longer

Geelong looked underdone and their defence without Stewart, De Koning and J.Henry had more holes than Swiss cheese.

Collingwood play at 100% longer than anyone else, and their gameplan becomes more efficient as the match progresses and opponents tire.

Questions could well be asked of why N.Daicos was allowed to roam as he pleased behind the ball and how someone as damaging as Pendlebury can be given so much room in the forward half of the ground.

Have to say T.Mitchell fitted in much better than I thought he would - had reservations he would impact their pace, but that never manifested. What did happen however was that the team that was ranked 17th for contested possession differential and 16th for clearance differential in 2022 just went +5 and +7 for those two statistics in a match against the reigning premiers.

I'm still not entirely convinced by the Magpies - their rope-a-dope version of football still doesn't seem sustainable to me over the long term and there hasn't been much to suggest yet that they have a Plan B. Fair play to them, it's certainly working well at the moment; a massive change has taken place there over the past 12 months. However, it will be interesting to see what happens when Pendlebury gets tagged forward of centre; N.Daicos and Noble aren't allowed to run up the ground unchecked; and Moore gets dragged well out of position by a "false" full forward.

Also just terrible about Howe, that's the kind of injury that can end careers.

Yeah as weird as it sounds, I’d be ok with a pies flag. They don’t have many players apart from Cox that i hate, and I dont really know any genuine pies supporters, so I could accept them winning it. They play an exciting brand of footy that’s good to watch, so all power to em. It would also mean Freo don’t win it, so that’s also great.

The Howe injury was bad. He's 33 this year, so it could easily be the end for him.

Still don't know how we managed to beat them at Marvel last season

Shows how fast things can turn in this league

We could learn alot from how they've gone about it. Made the GF with them 5 yrs ago, they fell to 17th one year before we did and now look at them

I wonder what they did to turn it around that we haven't yet....

You really need to look in to why they finished 17th that year.

They basically ripped the heart out of the club by kicking players out in a really ugly manner.

And they had a coach that looked like a dead man walking and most players were tuning him out.

They still had a lot of good players.

Their challenge after this season is how the transition from the likes of Howe, Pendlebury and Sidebottom.

We won a flag and clearly lost the hunger.

They look hungry.

Was the Howe injury visible on tv? Seen no footage of it.

His arm was bent at an unnatural angle and it was obvious how much pain he was in.

Couldn’t see any bone protruding although the way he landed with virtually his entire body weight going through his forearm that would have been a possibility

Death, taxes and Chris Scott "not making exucses"

It's a valid point though. Stewart's injury would not have occurred if the ground did not give way in the manner that it did.

Leaving just eight days between returfing most of the ground and playing matches is a situation that could have been avoided.

Same issues were present in the Richmond vs Carlton match; two more matches still to play there this weekend. Glad the Eagles are playing against North at Docklands instead.

That's not to say that we are immune to Ed Sheerin virus however - Optus stadium has a similar situation underway in the leadup to matches for the two WA clubs in Round 2.

Yeah maybe he does, but I gave Scott enough credit after last year's flag I need to go back to bagging him at any opportunity
