Adelaide has appealed and rightly so. Interesting on 360 last night they ruminated on how McAdams bump was worse, they then asked Toby Greene and Lachie Neal what they thought and both of them said Pickett's bump was a fair bit worse. Crickets from the clowns at the desk.
And I would consider old mate Toby an SME. I wish he played for us.

So potential to injure can be overcome by "glancing blow". I like finding out just how wiggly the tribunal line is for the AFL.
Watching them come up with new ways to work around the bullshit they made up in the first place is a highlight for mine.
Some guy tried to shoot me but missed and just grazed me. All good.

The AFL may as well get it over and done with and ban any bump from front on just as you can't bump from behind. Would trim the cases down significantly and lead to less head injuries.

Lines are blurred significantly when you listen to Lachie Neale talk about checking and shepherding, though. They're the same motion but different force, and will often happen front on.

It's a country flag? Not sure i see the problem with that.

I’ve seen the US flag at Collingwood games

The AFL have dug a hole for themselves here

To some people its the flag of a country that practices genocide against Muslims

Isn't the rule that potential to injure can upgrade it by two, so because Picketts was glancing it was initially low, but upgraded to high, whereas McAdams was medium upgraded to severe. The problem with these two incidents imo is the AFL has so strictly stuck to their formula.

I think they want to avoid the the ethnic feuds that we see in Australian soccer, if people start bringing in flags of countries that don't get on it will only be a matter of time before a blue erupts.

Pretty sure its condition of entry to most stadiums.

But sporting religion team flags are 👌

Bit different I think:

  • He's not Israeli
  • Being Jewish does not equal being Israeli and to say so is wrong and dangerous, even if good intent here
  • Israel is politically charged, especially so ATM and viewed as not legitimate by a large portion of world's population
  • I can't see them allowing a Palestinian flag, or a SA apartheid flag

I'm sure just a nice gesture, colours work too, but it's uncomfortable - a simple Star of David would be fine or should be fine

Condition of entry per above but let’s see then turf out all none team flags…

Also is ok for players to share political views, statements or logos on field but not fans.. again hypocrisy at its finest.

Weird thing is Norf have had Todd Goldstein running around for years and they've never once thought about displaying a flag for him

Yeah you are shifting the line to what is a block/bump but it couldn't be any more inconsistent than it is now and probably are making the adjudication at a much less forceful point than now.

I think it's two things probably:

1) Goldstein has Jewish heritage but he wasn't born 'Jewish', (his father was) and it doesn't seem like the community formed a major part of his upbringing or identity

2) Identity and Identity Politics plays a much larger role in discourse these days, and the AFL/North probably wanted to capitalise on his identity to burnish their progressive bona fides
