Quoting myself to suggest the nickname Lawn Mowell for him.

Perhaps he's taken the label of being a bull too literally. But if you asked me he's more buffalo than anything else.

The AFL/AFL Media (ie a group of around 20-30 journos and ex players based in Melbourne) tend to seperate themselves (and everyone else by association) from the ‘tribalism’ of the great unwashed and elevate these ‘Champion People’ in the game above a simple ‘He doesn’t play for my team - he’s a flog and I don’t like him’.

They did it with James Hird.
They did it with Glenn Archer.
They did it with Adam Goodes (yeah, I said it..)
They did it with Joel Selwood.

They do it with Patrick Dangerfield.

and yeah…they do it with Buddy.

They must be loved by all and it’s….a bit weird isn’t it?

Well Carey is their moral compass
Swans absolutely gave it to Ginivan last season - then trot our an aging Buddy who has probably sunk the elbow into quite a few pies over the years (un detected)

What gets me is the idea that fans dont normally boo.

It's a story because he's a big name player and he's indigenous. It's a load of crap where the clubs are virtue signaling because they want to be 'seen' to be 'doing the right thing'

It's no issue booing Horne-Francis, booing Ginnivan, Greene, or pretty much booing anyone else, but *, have the temerity to boo someone who's indigenous and it's national news and spread everywhere.

All this does is make the situation worse. People don't like being told what to do, it's never worked and it never will work.

Buddy was a great player but he's also a bit of w*er too and then there's always the 'injunction' period at hawthorn and the 'time away from the game / injunction' period at the swans where everyone and their dog knows what really happened but if people boo him now it's automatically racist. All this s*t now and you get called out as a racist over nothing yet none of the **** w***er ex players who were genuinely racist campaigners towards our and other teams ex players want to get all high and mighty about it. * off.

Can't boo the umpires or call them out as the moment someone makes a complaint to security you get kicked out. I'm ******* over it. No-one can even question the umpires now publicly in the industry without being fined or if you're in the media blacklisted by the AFL. Just wait till we have a couple of Indigenous field umpires and people boo them. The world might collapse such will be the outrage.

As it stands it probably doesn't matter as I won't be attending many more games and am almost done with junior footy. I'll be a part time follower of the club from AFAR but i've loved footy, been a part of it and even worked in the industry since I was a little kid. So we're talking 55+ years and i'm sick of this s**t. As a matter of fact im pretty sick of the whole virtue signaling western society. It's part of the reason i'm retiring elsewhere.

Literally i'd rather deal with seeing daily poverty and the genuine chance of real daily danger in some cities around the world than deal with this bullshit and be told what I can and can't think or who I think is a *******. If you're a w***er i'm going to call you one, it has nothing to do with your ethnic background.

All this from people who haven't seen or experienced real suffering, wars, people dying of starvation, basic sanitation or are just plain ******* hypocrites. * all of them.

Horne Francis is also indigenous. Ginnivan is a dirtbag and Greene is a thug. Epic rant btw

I certainly can't imagine why Collingwood of all clubs might want to get on the front foot managing anything that could possibly be perceived as racist. They've got such a long history of treating all people equally and with respect regardless of race.

Must admit, I am struggling to see the racial element to the booing of Buddy.

The Goodes scenario I 100% believe was racially motivated initially, as the timing was too coincidental around the Australian of the Year and MCG incident to not have a racial element to it. After that it became a weird act of defiance by some, who simply boo'd because they were told they were not allowed to.

Unfortunately despite their best intentions, the overswell of "don't boo Buddy" messages is only going to lead to more people booing Buddy, including those that weren't even considering doing it before.

As much fun as the booing conversation always is around here, how good is it not to have any games against Sydney at Optus this year?

In all seriousness that situation did annoy me though - a member of the crowd taunting Krakouer (s) for being in jail may be inappropriate, but not racist.

See this often from tourists looking down their noses at the working girls not realizing at all why they have to do what they do, really grind my gears.

Whately trying to tie people in knots on the radio ringing in saying we are the 19th man and it helps the team and countering with well your coach and captain have put out a statement saying not to do it so are you part of the team or not.. asshat he is

I don't think a lot of the media actually want people to stop booing Buddy. Secretly some would be happy as it fills column inches.

Maybe I am too cynical though...
