Great game, could only watch the last half. I thought it was a brissie mark there in the last second of the game, but bloody Australia Plus didn't show a replay - went straight to some other crappy show.
Controversial or not? The brissie players, of course, were agitated.

Can't be seen as anything other than a massive choke by the Lions tonight.

Game was all but wrapped up but their defence went to water as soon as Melbourne started chasing the game and moving the ball more through the corridor.

Once the momentum shifted, Fagan couldn't find a way to arrest it.

Now it's another loss at the MCG (22 from their last 25 there) and they won't get the opportunity to play there again before finals.

Future looking grim for Grundy now as well after Gawn's performance as the solo ruck.

The replay was shown after the match as part of the points of discussion - ball clearly hits Lever's chest before Hipwood takes it off him. Correct call.

We also used to try and shut the game down to early. I remember Cox signalling it against Sydney when there was 5-8 minutes left on the clock once and thinking "oh no".
We went in to shut it down mode at 18 minutes to go. We genuinely stop taking first options and stop looking to kick in to the forward 50. Then the oppo starts getting a run on, so we throw Gunners back, but he's f*<king cooked and ineffectual.

Hipwood also had Lever in a fair old headlock as well which should have been a free kick

And I detest Lever

Brisbane threw it away and only gave themselves to blame

Bad first 10 minutes and a bad last 10 minutes they conceded 8 goals. In between they dominated the match

Should’ve won

Could be just the thing to fire the Dee's into contention.

Makes me sick to say it but Viney was instrumental in that 4th quarter. Hate that campaigner.

Petracca and Viney have both been immense since Oliver went down with his injury

Agreed, couldn't understand why Fagan didn't change the matchup when Viney started getting busy around stoppage during the last.

He is just 179cm and easily covered by a tag - Robertson coming on fresh with a much larger body seemed the natural option to shut him down, but was never used as such.

As for Melbourne, possibly season defining stuff. When they use the talent they have available to actively take the game on, they become very difficult to stop. The belief they will take from this result could end up being very telling later on in the year.

A loss would've no doubt focussed upon Petracca's time spent up forward and brought more questions towards the Gawn/Grundy ruck partnership. A win however over a contender, whilst consolidating their own position inside the top 4, helps to make those questions go away.

Suddenly, selection appears validated and the playing group has a needed injection of confidence, with Oliver and Fritsch both set to return before finals.

Main thing I took away from last night is Brisbane won the lotto with those FS picks. Fletcher is just as good as Ashcroft from what I saw last night.

They have Ashcroft 2.0 (Levi) coming this draft as well.

Joe Kennedy (son of Max) is starting to bolt in considerations - is currently part of Gold Coast Academy, but can nominate Brisbane under F/S this year.

In 2026 they are looking likely to gain Cooper Hodge (son of Luke) via their Academy also.

Er what? Luke Hodge played less than 50 games for Brisbane.

If Luke Hodge's son goes to Brisbane rather than Hawthorn you can guarantee there will be a huge push to dismantle or water down the academies.

Though I agree with you and can see as just the cause Gerard Whately would be championing, it'd be purely the decision of Hodge jnr though right?
