"We made a significant investment in Liam, not just through our Next Generation Academy, matching Carlton's bid under NGA concession rules in the 2019 draft, and it was pleasing to see his potential come to fruition this year.

"We will have this investment and his talent as a winger front of mind when looking to facilitate a trade."

Jilted 😬

They should just rid of the soft call. it's purely guessing
Get rid of the umpiring requesting a review. Get them to make a call like in the old days then review each decision in the background whilst the game carries on.

If it's called a behind but turns out it was a goal then we stop play, rewind the clock and go to the centre square for a ball up as would have happened anyway. Slightly annoying for the players but they'll burn what maybe 20 seconds of energy, 30 at tops.

If it's called a goal but turns out it was a behind we just return the ball back for a kick-in. This is actually probably a slightly more annoying scenario because the team conceding the behind misses out on the chance to go quickly from their kick-in but in the current system where the goal umpire calls for a review they are in the same position anyway.

If the ARC team can't overrule a decision in 30 seconds it means it's too tight to call and we go with the umpire.

How many overrules a game do we think there are going to be? Probably one a game on average I reckon. Three would be a bad day for the goal umpires. It's hardly an impost to make sure the right decision is made 99% of the time whilst still maintaining the flow of the game.

Every year there will probably be a handful of really tight contentious ones, such as in the above scenario, Lynch's shot from the 2022 finals would remain a goal because that took quite some time to come to the conclusion it was a behind (correctly IMO, but many people think it was a goal - we can all agree it was an extremely tight call). Some will argue for the final five minutes we just do a full review of every scoring shot regardless of how long it takes, which I can see the merit in doing so but I actually don't like a system where you place a higher priority on actions in the dying stages of a match over what preceded it.

The sudden sad and certain fleeing of each purple person
Thrills me, fills me with fantastic tremors never felt before

They developed him from the age of 15 through the academy and he still wants to leave,.. Glorious.
It does make you wonder what's been going on down there for the past 25 years.
They just can't keep guys.
It's not as if it's just an isolated player here or there, that happens at every club. It's time and time again.

Is it just that we notice it more because it has the Fremantle laughability factor involved?

They may be a shite-stain of a club, but they do provide laughs. And a repository for a substantial number of the brain dead ferals who live in Perth.

I don't think people understand just how amazing some of our clubs supporters and host families are.

WCE are still true league leaders in community involvement, (off field) player welfare and retention. While a lot of this is from the club a lot comes from the supporter base.

There certainly been low points but particularly since 2008 nobody has done it better. Geelong and Brisbane come close now but I firmly believe that a large part of that is due to identifying and copying a lot of what the WCE do and have done.

Toby Greene, the AA captain. Wonders will never cease.

Callum Wilkie as AA FB.

That is one of the weirdest decisions i've ever seen by the AA selectors.

They were introduced to the competition to counteract the Eagles. We were the first team to take on the VFL and win.
The Dockers turned up with their fake history and fake authenticity and did precisely........nothing. And nearly 30 years later have still done nothing.
Players know when they have been dudded.

Its a strange one. He was getting games and game time, so that should have been enough, unless:
a) he dislikes the place; and/or
b) they are trying to shortchange him and he's getting better offers elsewhere
He's supposedly attracted to the bright lights and glamour of Victoria and wants to move there to be with his mates, a lot of rumours going around the Colin Young helped influence him because he's upset Longmuir dropped him as an agent.

The sooner we stop drafting Colin Young managed players the better, I really doubt it's the culture considering we removed all of the dickheads from the club.

The guy singlehandedly won games off his own boot and when he stepped up he dragged his teammates with him. GWS made finals unexpectedly this year as a result. He's a campaigner but I'd be happy to trade pick 1 to get him to our club, he's that good (well maybe not that far, but you know what I mean).

It was possibly one of the least controversial decisions imo.

Some see the redemption arc, plenty don't though.

Thoughts on Ian Miller

In amongst the stories of our retiring trio on Saturday was that Ian Miller is also finishing up

For a long time now he’s been the man tasked with the responsibility of settling draftees into the club with their host families etc etc

From the outside he seems to have done an outstanding job and is one of the club stalwarts that earns his keep and will be missed

Looks like the club has been developing Drew Petrie to take over Serge’s role - he’s a good choice and I hope he sticks around after Simpson leaves whenever that might be
