Errol Gulden would have to be just about the best kick in the league atm. The bloke just doesn't miss targets and is so dangerous. Carves opponents up in a death by a thousand cuts way that reminds me of peak Gaff but more damaging and hits the scoreboard too
there was a time when we had the two best kicks from half back in the league with Jetta and Hurn. you campaigners know what happened next

It was called as touched by the goal umpire and the review agreed (or at least found no evidence to overturn). Looked like the right decision to me.

Wasn't arguing the decision, I was saying they need better cameras or to just can it.

The vision was too blurry and the decision was made by the goal umpire anyway. What part did the review even play other than to hold up the game?

This from AFL photographer Michael Wilson. Surely the AFL can afford better cameras such as this?

Of course they can, but then funding for the AFL admin bonuses and money for bailing out the broke teams goes down significantly.

I have a conspiracy theory brewing in my head that the reason broadcasters do the annoying thing of zooming in on the ball for set shots (so you can't actually see where it is) is at the AFL's request for the purpose of goal reviews.

Are the super crisp, super slow mo cameras they use for soccer in Europe too expensive? They'd fix literally everything wrong with the review system.

It's my understanding that they would need 3 of the high end cameras at each end and it would require a lot of infrastructure work for them to be in the best places. Something along the lines of 3-4 million dollars per ground plus the cost of operation and maintenance.

The cameras themselves each can be upwards of hundreds of thousands so easily could be in the millions all up.
Then you need people to be paid to operate them etc.

Cost of cameras and operating. Look at the WOL cost. Three goal umps at each game cost far more than $1000 each. Plus travel costs, coaching costs and salaries, there is an AFL goal umpire observer at each game etc etc. Get rid of them and amortise the cost over a few years. Gø professional!

Having blurry cameras is better than none, though. If it wasn't for 2 goal reviews we would've lost the 2018 GF, for instance.

Better tech would be great, but don't throw the system out because it isn't perfect. We still have a higher proportion of correct decisions than we did before.

I'm assuming one of those reviews your referring to was Willie's first goal?..The goal umpire called that a goal as I remember

Can't remember the other one youre referring to

We'll have to agree to disagree. And I realise I'm in the minority but id love them to can it completely instead of half assing it. But that's what the AFL does best
