Watching the highlights of Saints vs Suns, can't help but wonder how long until the umpires come down on Windhager. Just scragging and clinging all over his opponents - it'll be about a month too late after he basically held Harley off the ball but it shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Pretty crazy that this is allowed to happen

I have no issue with taggers, but that's just terrible umpiring if Windhager is getting away with that.

Of course not - tagging is fine. My issue is when players are grabbed before taking possession of the ball at a stoppage. It seems to be the kind of call that's only made depending on how the umpire feels at the time.

Some of the dogshit free kicks umpires manage to find only for them to miss this
Is it too crazy to suggest maybe given the complexity of trying to umpire this game that on field umps aren't in the best position to call free kicks? Could we have a set of umpires watching the broadcast and other streams of the ground that then call a free kick directly into the onfield umps earpiece for them to blow the whistle.

Feels like they would get a lot more right being able to call the game from an air conditioned box with a coffee instead of being out on the ground with their views blocked with thousands of fans screaming at them.

What I don’t like about this mid season reinterpretation of holding the ball is, you see players not wanting to pick the ball up. It should to be about the guy that goes in hard and win the contest. Now in 50/50’s players are hesitating and waiting for the other guy to pick it up then being rewarded with holding the ball.

Then it'd only be a matter of time before they start umpiring from Fox studios in Melbourne like the commentary teams.

Imagine the conspiracies if a game winning free was called from am invisible bloke in a room at AFL house.

True but I feel like every time there is a howler free kick paid/not paid the go to defence for the umpire is "Well we're watching it from up here so it's easier for us to see it" Why can't the the umpires watch it from up there too?

Because most of that is due to having multiple replays, slow mo etc that they wouldn't get regardless

4 umps instead of 3 has achieved exactly f*#k all, just adds another "interpretation" of the rules.

Has also meant the AFL needs another 9 umpires per round so there’s more inexperienced umpires.

Couple that with an AFL administration that constantly tinkers with rules and their interpretation and it’s a recipe for the cluster**** we currently have

Looks like there's another close game between a Victorian side and a non-Victorian side happening atm.

Umpires:

Start watching the Fox pregame for Carlton v Essendon (my fault but know) and 60 seconds in

Lyon - 83k for this game last year it’s become a really big part of the football calendar (It’s the second year they’ve played it this round on a Sunday night)

Lyon - 2nd v 5th, two power clubs of the competition (Haven’t won a flag between them since 2000 and have appeared in a combined 11 finals series over the last 20 years for a combined 4 wins)

Buckley - irrespective of who you follow it’s great seeing two big Victorian clubs wank wank wankity wank (Speak for yourself Nathan)

It’s ****ing nauseating
