Pleased for both of them.

Michael Hibberd and Jake Melksham will be part of Melbourne’s bid for redemption next year after inking respective one-year extensions.

The veteran pair crossed to the Demons from Essendon in exchange for second-round picks, with Hibberd doing so in 2015 and Melksham the next season.

But the 2023 campaign will be both footballers’ seventh at Melbourne after Hibberd sat out the year following his trade because of the Bombers’ supplements ban.

After a 10-0 start to the club’s premiership defence, the Dees lost eight of their last 14 matches, including both finals, so will be keen to bounce back.

Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb said the new contracts were due reward for Hibberd’s and Melksham’s ongoing contributions.

“They have both had significant impact since arriving at the club and continue to push themselves to be the best players and teammates they can be,” Lamb said.

“Michael and Jake played important roles for us last season and are as hungry as ever to be part of our journey moving forward.

“We look forward to what they can bring over the coming season.”

Wow four people arrested for spot betting on Brownlow and an umpire under AFL investigation. Implications are more wide spread if ump involved. They’d have to look back at his/her matches to see if any suspicious decisions

I know who the umpire is

It’s not about decision making, it’s giving info on who got the 3 votes, bets placed on the round by round betting markets.

Dunkley
Gunston
McKenna
Ashcroft
Fletcher

They make a GF or Fagen is gooorne.
still think they need to find a way for Daniher & Hipwood to play in the same side
but the forward line looks pretty menacing now.

Dees are still my one to watch. And reckon the Cats remain strong for another year.

If I’m honest….good.

Yes he’s a talent but to me he lacks maturity and resilience and his motivations are flawed.

Like JD I have always had the sense that he will let you down when it really matters.

It’s no great loss to us and no great gain for the Lions.

Yeah, not sure you can just take 2 years off and waltz in and be a good player. He might be ok, but the odds don’t favour it.

Daniher to miss the shot in a prelim to send them to the grand final from 20m out directly in front.
I was thinking more Conor does one of those small kicks to himself …goes back over his own head and opp score sealer

Agreed. McKenna's a trophy hunter. He cares not with whom he acquires his trophies. Also, that ship sailed a long time ago. We're in rebuild mode and he isn't required. I baulked at Walla's return, but at least we're thinking laterally with him in terms of mentoring.
