North getting a raw deal from the umps

Episode 2 Whatever GIF

Carlton got the win, but I'm not sure I'm completely convinced. Getting talked up pre season of being top 4 and even flag potential, overrated from what I've seen.

i think they played pretty well, the problem was that it should've been closer but there was some interesting umpiring made on behalf of their team. first time this season both mckay and curnow have been accurate infront of goal. i'd be worried when sam walsh comes back into the side later in the year.

Need to add walsh back.
North played a nothing backline and 10 goals from harry and charlie are to be expected.
If the luck with frees dries up or a side goes super defensive on them (saints game will be interesting), i reckon thats the yardstick to measure them by

Just doing what they need to at the moment

I get the idea of them running less and working multiple games in a weekend, but why not give them a bench rotation

I could see that working... especially if we allowed the fans to vote on which umpire to rotate off each quarter.

Not having done any umpiring so may be off base here but I'd assume the argument against that if you are swapping umps they come in "cold" to the game which may result in differences on what is called.

Umps would get in tune with the game and how it's played I'd assume so swapping and changing would bring inconsistency to the game which I'm sure we don't want more of.

Or it could give them the opportunity to see what their colleagues are calling and help them be more consistent, especially if there’s some sort of coach or trainer watching and giving feedback… you also don’t have to sub them off for entire quarters, they could rotate after each goal so they’re keeping their heads in the game and not cooling off

Ziebull and Heppell doing laps around the MCG on grand final day this year I think.
Thankfully it's by car, because if they had to jog it, it'd take bloody ages!

There is one. Less workload for the good umpires. Less injuries.
Well you could say now that five will do the same. It’s about optimum level for making decisions and agree with eth..three seemed to be that level

I am only going by the comments from the actual umpires. Less workload during games. Less injury. Less fatigue in games.

yeah but this comes at the cost of everyone having to listen to Jobe. there's no winners here. dude stinks as a commentator

He's monotone and hopelessly strapped to the player cliches.
