Why can’t we have a Tassie team with a current ground upgraded? Waste of money
People want a flash new toy and Blunstone arena is considered by most not an easy venue to get to. I thought the same way but this does make sense to me.
The plus is it is not just going to be a footy ground as such. It is going to be a great precinct close to the city .
For footy it will have the Adelaide Oval , Optus stadium type all round experience.

Blundstone's accessibility always amused me. I used to park South St Reserve, walk the few blocks to the stadium and then when I left go right away, from Bellerive till you hit South Arm Highway and then swing back into Hobart via that.

In and out in 20 minutes most times.

It is a horrible ground to stand at in the rain though.

Could also be to make room for community footy or womens footy or more pathways.

I didn't realise how big of a thing that was with AFL HQ, until I saw a headline the other day about AFLNT threatening to take away the Alice Springs game between the Dees and the Giants if the local council didn't let the community league play on that ground. (Not the local league but the one where local communities play against each other and people come in from out of town to watch, which is apparently a hooligan risk after all the crime and alcohol politics there lately.)

Ditto the big push around community footy in order for Adelaide to secure Gather Round for a few years.

And then on top of that you had Gold Coast training out of a couple of portables when they started and that turned out not to be a great way to start a new team so probably they wanna do better than that.

What are you upgrading? The stadium in Hobart at the moment is almost unwatchable for footy, and impossible to access from a transport point of view. You limit the amount of people who will travel due to the winter weather with it sitting on the edge of the water and coping those icy winds in winter.

The team is going to be based in Hobart. As seen in Adelaide and Perth what a brand new stadium can do for a city, it’s the right idea of building a brand new stadium for a new team to compete at. People complaining about the cost don’t understand what sort of economy impact and new stadium will have and the loads of money that will be brought into the states economy.

Context please.
Article is saying the Players' Association is proposing that certain clubs are given more money in their salary cap to attract players where that club is disadvantaged for whatever reason (eg small, the draw, tendency for players to leave etc), to help enable such clubs to have a chance of attracting better players and winning a flag.

Not sure how'd you even calculate that. When clubs are shit they have issues attracting players (and keeping them) that those same clubs don't have when they're good.

The salary cap floor is too high. Allowing clubs to pay further under the cap means they wouldn't have to overpay fringe players to meet the cap floor, which allows them to bank more money for a star signing.

Gcs and gws should definitely have more money in their salary cap as should Tasmania when they come in

Found this article interesting. It is from last year but has some good points.

Having played a bit of Rugby League as a junior and being a goal kicker I have always understood the round the corner style of kicking which came into league at the time I was playing it as an under 15. It replaced the straight on kick for goal and was more accurate.

Have not got the exact numbers but the round the corner snap is more accurate. I know a lot blow up when they miss but bad technique is bad technique in any form of kicking and the sweet spot on the footy is larger when you kick it around the corner. If you rush the kick you will get the same poor results as you do rushing a drop punt.

Probably, but if you’re having Monday and Thursday Night Footy either side of the bye you’d barely notice.

Also means one team misses anzac round, Sir Doug Nicholls round, gather round…
also benefits teams with byes later in season

how will a 19 team comp work? One team has a bye each week? Bummer for the team with bye in R1
The thinking going around Twitter at the moment is that with Tassie getting announced and having a 2027 entry date, a 20th team announcement with a 2028 entry date might be on the cards at some point. With the 20th team being a 3rd one in WA or SA. Basically, do it like they did Gold Coast and GWS coming in, where there's only one year with an odd number of teams.

Nothing confirmed or anything like that, but it does make a lot of sense. We'll see how it all plays out!

And players dont kick drop kicks and do very few torps these days. Its called evolution. Not sure why it would be so hard for so called greats to understand.

A team missing Gather Round will be amusing. Would they have to call it Almost Gather Round or Not Quite Gather Round
