We offered him the same contract.

He left cause we took too long to pony up and - let's not gloss over it - the club was an absolute basket case at the end of 2020.

Joe Daniher, Fantasia left as well, and the mail was a fair few others would have followed them if they weren't under contract.

He came in at '17, using the basket case trope doesn't work here. And a few had ample chances to leave before and after, but didn't. Success comes from belief and cohesion. Saad evidently is the type to choose short-cuts and the easiest way out.

We're better off anyway, diva antics would ruin what we've built, but fits well at the scum. Just deserves.

Yep.
Sort of like the collingwood review, but there was stuff that was alleged that goes beyond racism and crosses into some pretty serious human rights abuses.

The media, like our saga, really should have stayed out of it until the investigation completed.

Given the nature of the accusations as well, i dont think you can just have it go away. Maybe thats me, but the two allegations around the abortion and changing the sim card/living arrangements of a person cross a line.
I think they need to be addressed.
The victims went to the media because they didn't trust the AFL to not just sit on it and sweep it under a rug.

It's not a big surprise a certain player left North when Clarkson arrived there. Also Mrs Rioli was very forward about the whole affair and the fact she has receipts.

You mean 2017 when we made the finals and all the saga players had returned and Stringer and Smith also agreed to join?

It's well publicized the club was in shambles after 2020 - there was resentment from non-saga players who thought those who were suspended were getting favors, there was confusion about who was actually coaching between Woosha and Truck amongst the players, and Covid had gotten them all too sick of each other.

The club was a basket case. It isn't a 'trope' - hell Zach basically said publically that he wanted to see the club get its shit together before he signed in 2021.

I dont know what you mean by 'here' - but back in reality it's well known there were plenty of players wanting to leave in 2020, we are fortunate a lot of them were under contract. Only one eyed supporters would suggest Saad left fornthe money or as a shortcut.

And the fact that him and Dev nearly had a punch on a couple of times and there was a bit of stuff said that could not be unsaid . As you say the place was a basket case and the playing group was certainly not united.
Is that right? I always wondered whether Smith was a big part of a few players not being happy in the hub. Seemed quieter guys like Saad and even Tippa came out disillusioned

If you can't coach that Carlton list to the top 4 you're not a top notch coach. If you can't coach them to the finals then you're a complete gronk.
Nah. List is way too top heavy. Seriously overrated list.

Saad had the opportunity to go anywhere he pleased at the end of 2017, GC gave him their blessing as he essentially couldn’t move forward with his life up there, such is the very small Lebanese muslim community on the GC.

Carlton had a dip, but he spurned them and chose us, the next time he was ooc, the shoe was on the other foot. He’s rejected both clubs, he just rejected us last.

It seems as though the harsh reality is that his motivator is creating generational wealth for his immediate and extended family, and that’s fine, but he really is a true modern mercinary.

He’s done the footy equivalent of trading a paperclip for a house.

Last time that happened for Essendon was around 2014 or so...

;)

OK OK I'll leave now.

We’re even better at self sabotage.

And that’s saying something

Carlton and Essendon really do like to pass the biggest ****up of club award back and forth. Two years ago, it was them with the board collapse and eventual hiring of Voss. Last year was is with Rutten/Clarko and then Thornburn crap. Now it's it back to Carlton with the PwC investigation and pressure on Voss. I'm kinda worried about next year. 😅 Although it's probably St Kilda's turn again.

Which one gets to break the shackles of mediocrity like richmond and melbourne finally did?
