i cant say i ever had anything of a routine as kicking for goal....not my forte

but if its anything like serving in tennis or a golf swing it's primarily between your ears on game day, but down to nailing a routine in training and once you've got that, stick with it.

i have no idea what McKay's approach is. he looks genuinely confused on what to do with any given shot.
Weideman at least has his routine...he's just not that accurate.
I got taught routine when I was playing junior Rugby League goal kicking. It is important but you can still get the yips if you lose confidence. It also will not help if you have a flaw in the ball drop .
I do think that a lot of the round the corner misses are more incorrect technique. The kicking sweet spot is larger than a drop punt but a lot of players hold the ball wrongly or have a fault in the ball drop and hit the wrong part of the ball .
McKay needs to get a routine going but he also has flaws in his set shot kicking either way .

yeah. it strikes me very much as get the technique right, then your routine, then the mindset for trusting it during games. even if you get the yips.

I spent the better part of a decent junior tennis career serving wrong. it wasnt until i was 30 odd a coach pointed out i used the wrong grip when serving.
i now have both. The "wrong" way, which slices the ball a lot, and the right way, which gives me more control and power.

but it's still a mental game when using it. All it takes is a double fault and you stop trusting it/yourself.

I'm probably getting old, and it probably says something about me as a person, but I have a quiet Friday night tonight and I'm looking forward to the prospect of putting my feet up and watching Carlton hopefully lose and be plunged further into despair.

Like, I would enjoy it.

This is better than I thought. Could be a proper implosion.

Zverev 😁

Djokovic who is a mental giant when it comes to clutch situations spends a lot of time meditating and developing belief for big moments.

Feels a lot like us, last year. Similar discussions - is it the players?? The coach?? Plus board troubles, etc, etc, etc. Big difference is, they were meant to feature at the pointy end of the season. It's magnificent.
It'll be a bit of everything.

there's an element of clearing the mind. i always go back to the simpsons mini golf ep when Lisa trains Bart.

I have my go to's (which i also use to fall asleep within 5s of my head hitting a pillow, which infuriates my wife :p)

It’s just funny that such a senior journalist and football’s First Lady clearly has such dodgy sources
Caro is such a conundrum for me, like I want to support her because she has clearly copped some awful treatment for her gender from the likes of Eddie and Newman but on flip side she really is a gutter journo too and has said some questionable very non-feminist things in recent years (like criticising the Saints players for stepping down from a game to be with their pregnant wives and backing tom morris just because he is a family friend)

One of the things that differentiated the big 3 from others was that ability to put aside disappointment of losing a set and coming out and wiping out the opponent in the next. That is the clearing of the mind.

one of the things i admired most about them as the greatest players i've ever seen
their mental resilience was off the charts.

She's just a person, with values, faults and biases like any other. As a journalist I don't think she's half bad. I don't think she's exactly a feminist. Or at least, she'd probably be second wave if anything. She's more of a one-eyed Tigers fan than anything, bias wise. And she could do with a little self-awareness, but so could they all.

there are maybe 1 or 2 decent afl journo's who cover the sport without an obsession for the soap opera

Caro isn't one, but she's not alone with the likes of Morris, Browne, McClure, Ralph, Hutchy, etc. that haven't moved on from the Cousins ambulance chasing coverage of AFL

Im glad Cripps had a go. And they're fired up and beat the Dees this week......then they can lull into a false sense of security the following week ;)
but also, just glad he called it out
it's become schoolyard whispers in the last decade and really doesn't add anything to the sport

So where are all the people saying I have a tin foil hat for saying Carlton players always get off at the tribunal?
What was the difference to the Merrett tackle?
They claimed Cerra was pushed by Parker and the momentum as a result took Hickey down

Apprently AFL press conference on the hawthorn racism investigation at 7.45pm.

Deal made with families for no findings against the trio. No real surprises it ended like this.
The lumps under the carpet are getting bigger.

Swept. Under. Carpet.
Follow up on 360 pretty telling.

By Gil acknowledging the hurt caused it paves the way for the complaintants to go to the Human Rights Commission.

It's not the end of the story, but the end of the AFL chapter.
