The embelem!!!
rub-hands.gif

catch me perusing twitter over the next few days hoping to catch a glimpse of one

1. Collingwood - is the hype real?
1. Port - do they take the next step and challenge?
3. Melbourne - do they have the mental strength to get another flag?
2. Brisbane - see Coll/P.A
5. St.Kilda - 60 odd years of mediocrity, will ti continue? has the ross the boss glass worn off?
6. Dogs - underperforming, most had them challenging
5. Adelaide - overpeforming, can they keep it up?
5. Essendon - see Adelaide
6. Fremantle - played deep in finals and now sit outside 8 at halfway point of the year.
8. Geelong/Sydney - grand finalists/premiers sit outside the 8. self explanatory
8. Gold Coast - improving but is this the year they finally play finals?
10. Carlton - self explanatory lol
7. Giants - is this mediocrity about to set in?
9. Richmond - paid a heavy price for two guys to remain competitive and sit bottom 4
7. Hawthorn - indigenous players review, the 'tanking' thing etc.
8. North Melbourne - Clarko, they're s**t. no improvement on the horizon
5. WCE - genuinely the worst side we have seen since start up clubs

1 = easy, not a whole lot to see
10 dumpster fire, start again
pies hype is def real, they play a good brand of football. it's not too often you see all 22 guys + sub giving it their all for every minute of the game. who cares if they win by 60 or win by 10, a win is a win and they know how to win games. i'm impressed with craig mcrae. while the pies have some genuine stars (pendles, sidearse, darcy moore, nick daicos and i daresay jordan de goey at the moment) every person on the field plays like their life depends on it. no one gives up when they're 40 points down (or 24 with anzac day) they don't take the foot off the momentum when they're up by a heap. it's impressive

The question is, "why's the hype real?" The answer is "Because they're winning". And Pies are winning because they believe they can win, they have trust in their system and each other. Their team is not a superteam filled with superior athletes but they're executing their game plan well.

It's Essendon in 1993. Melbourne in its flag year. A joy to watch if it's your team. Undeniably impressive if it's not your team.

When Carlton play well their skills are the equal of the top 8 teams. History shows that they tend to believe they can beat us.

This is very captain obvious but Melbourne need to find a KPF for next season or they will be a side that wins just one flag . They had total control of the game all night but could not make use of their inside 50 numbers. They have a good one in van Rooyen who is mobile and gets up the ground and makes good decisions but they need a FF. The lack of a decent FF is hurting Fritsch a bit as well. He is getting a lot of two on one coverage.
JVR is a nice young gun.
I hear they're chasing georgiades as well.
But absolutely right. They're fwd structure is killing them.

Elite behind the ball and moving it thru the middle.....then nothing.

At least play Brown as a body.

yeah absolutely, it also reminds me of essendon in 2000 (i say remind but i can't remember that, i'm a bit too young sadly) they're a great team to watch though.

You missed a fun year
6 goal wins felt like a loss.

We were genuinely bamboozled in that one loss to the dogs. Had no idea how to react or feel. Funnily enough, that loss probably cemented the flag

was going over that season with one of my mates and it's absurd just how ridiculously well we were playing, even that first final against north melbourne.

what a time to have been alive (literally like 1 years old lol)

This is something I didn't realise about the Hawks racism review;

"In a statement, the ABC, which first reported the allegations, said the stories of the families at the centre of the report were not "leaked", as nobody interviewed by Hawthorn for the cultural safety review was bound by confidentiality.

News director Justin Stevens also rejected allegations Hawthorn staff members were not given an opportunity to respond to the initial story alleging mistreatment, calling the reporting by journalist Russell Jackson "thorough and fair.

It was in the public's interest to be informed about these issues and Russell went to great lengths to get the other side of the story so he could report on that as well," Mr Stevens said."

Families at centre of Hawthorn AFL racism probe to make complaint to Human Rights Commission, lawyer says - ABC News https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-05-31/afl-hawthorn-responds-to-panel-findings-human-rights-commission/102414734

There was no leak, just Hawthorn mismanagement of their own review.

100% they had every opportunity to respond at the time. While I understand that they might feel a journalist pushing the story of an aggrieved party is a forum that they would feel safe in, if they really did nothing wrong then speaking up would have cost them nothing.

I want Carlton to be good-ish again. It is so much more satisfying to win when their fans are still there to hear the song.

Sweeter still if we can get a crack at #17 by ending their finals campaign.

I prefer them right where they are... or maybe even lower. ;)

Love seeing this misery at Carlton.
They were SO sure.

To be fair, so was I. Many people talk about the depth of their list, but that is what coaching and your best players playing well is all about. If the best are putting the opposition on the back foot then the bottom half of your list can be given belief by having roles they can complete on match day whether that is playing defensive roles or running hard to provide extra numbers at the contest, or spreading hard to provide room for the stars.

It is 100% the coaching as he hasn't been able to build roles for the bottom half of the list, well, the bottom half of the best 22.

Ahh yes, the great year of 2000 that broke me as a child.

I was an impressionable naive 12 year old boy back in 2000 and living in Geelong with both my parent's and brother who are Geelong cats supporters. I don't know why I started to support Essendon but I have all my life. So growing up in that household was tough footy wise and seeing a game live of my team was a rare feat.

During that year the old man took me to one game, I was so excited and who wouldn't be we were dominating the season and no other team was in the same tier as Essendon. Round 21 vs The Doggies at Telstra Dome, a brand new stadium that opened in 2000 and our new home ground, the moons were aligned for the previous 20 weeks of the AFL season so why not again for week 21.

Roughly two and half hours later I was never the same again, why I asked, why me, what did I do to deserve this punishment? Still to this day it haunts me in my sleep and I blame myself on a outcome I couldn't control other than the reason I'm a bad omen/jinx.

I still wonder today how different my life would of been if I just attended the round before or after and witness live a win of one of the greatest teams in AFL history

Maybe Vossy has realised it's not that hard to captian/coach a team that was the sum of two amalgamated teams?

You might want to put that in inverted commas

It’s almost word for word what one of their ex recruiters said in an article published in the age a number of years ago. As told to him by a board member IIRC
