There is no sport as chaotic as footy n the states. All their sports are much more controllable.
Timeouts and stoppages of play which lead to minutes of coaching instruction is not a good comparison to our game. I really dislike the final minutes of basketball and American football with how long it takes to actually complete a small amount of game time.

Yep. Geelong wouldn't really stand a chance without Danger and without Holmes at his best.

It's another year where I'm going to find the premier seriously underwhelming.

I'm still eying off a Geelong in 2026 (possibly even next season but I think it might take a few key pieces 6 months longer than next season to hit their straps). In some ways they were a 50 game Neale away from getting the result tonight. He just needed to pull down a few of those marks which he spilled. Only problem with 2026 is Danger can, surely, not still be at this level.

Did anyone else notice that he torched Neale every time their paths crossed? He's probably the most amazing athletic specimen to have ever played the game.
Without Dangerfield and the dodgy umpiring I think we beat them that night at the G. To keep his speed and power at that age and all the abuse he has put his body through is unique indeed.

Funnily enough I was actually thinking of hickeybwith my original statement, which may have a time out (each team gets 1 but they are often used up before the last few minutes), but can have a bunch of stoppages (similar to AFL with out of bounds) depending in what is happening.

But my musing were more around mindset. Hockey players (in general, from my observation) don't seem to panic nearly as much. They now that 20 seconds is more than enough time to advance the puck, make a play or two, and then get a shot.
Yes, they know the exact amount if seconds left and AFL players don't, but it's getting closer with all the signs etc being held up from the bench. Compare the decision making of an American sports player with 30 seconds left in the clock with a lot of AFL players with about 2 minutes left and it's night and day

So happy with that result. As an aside, I was sitting next to McQualter, Choco Williams and Alan Richardson at the match
Sorry to hear that.

Is Ryan Lester the most underrated player in the comp?
he was almost my best one yesterday, was instrumental to stifling the geelong f50 entries in the second half

Gotta feel for big Oscar, if he misses due to apparent shoulder injury. Bloke has played every game this year but may miss out on the big one.

Doe they go with the number 2, albeit young, in Henry Smith or with a mature body Darcy Fort or an absolute Steven Bradbury come home win from Brandon Ryan?

Anyone coming up against Brodie Grundy so likely need to try and break even.

I can't think of anyone in the same stratosphere as him athleticism wise, perhaps Buddy just for the natural traits.

But Dangers intent is key too, there is plenty of gifted guys who cant use their body properly in the contest or don't use their speed enough, he will kill people at the drop of the ball to win it and he backs his pace so often.

Time to wheel out the September specialist Clark Keating... 😄

He's the bizzaro world version of Clark Keating.

*I should have read SydneyBomber post before writing this.

Still recall the first time I watched Dangerfield live as it was hard not to just follow his game & ignore the other mob in red & black...

Of the players I've seen Ablett Senior, Buddy and possibly Goodes are the only players that get close. Peak Pavlich was pretty special, but he didn't maintain anything like his prime athletic capacity this late in his career., and Blicavs also rates a mention (but as a very different type of athlete).

Having said that peak Buddy and Danger is unlike anything else. That Danger has been the most powerful mid in the league for probably 12 years now is ridiculous. Even just comparing someone like JHF to Danger is not fair. JHF is a mortal playing the realm of the gods.

Carey & Brown (bris) were pretty good big game players physically too IMO.
