With the rabble that WCEs look to be for a number of years, what players are likely to 'jump ship'? They keep talking up the players they could encourage to join them, but what about Oscar Allen etc? wouldn't they get to a point where they no longer believe? You would only stay there, or be enticed to join them for the big bucks.
I'd be surprised is Allen isn't captain by Round One next season.

I doubt they lose anyone that will hurt them. They need to pension off some/all of dad's army, and the few good players who aren't in that group are from WA and will stay. There's no way they let Allen go.

Future draftees (e.g. Harley Reid) might be a different story. They could be scared into trading #1 to get Curtin + Tholstrup for example. Do the same next year if they are down the bottom again.

Sure have - and the principle that I have copped crap on here for when it comes to Clarkson or others is the same in this instance. Does it look bad? Yes. Is he innocent until proven guilty and should he be treated as such? Yes.
I'll let Richmond spend their time and energy defending him.

The West claims he knew he was going to be arrested after the game. Great timing for us?

Watching On The Couch it looked like Simpson was on theverge of tears. Brutal.
I think he was - just watched it, and found I felt incredibly sorry for him. I've been critical of him for years, as he would have to be the least animated of all the AFL coaches on game day; makes you wonder what the instructions of those above him are. I can't understand why he hasn't stepped down, for his own mental health. Was very uncomfortable viewing.

Apparently he knew he was going to be questioned. He didn't know he was going to be arrested and charged.

I hope everyone is thinkinkyabout the souls that lost there lives on that bus. Let’s all remember the gift of life and those poor souls having to be the first responders. What a horrific situation and I couldn’t imagine. Thanks to the firrst responders.

Where it happened is 20 minutes from me. Situation is horrible.

That makes more sense and explains they maybe waited until after the game. Probably flagged it with him, they wanted to ask him some questions and knew it would take some time, maybe he admitted something or said the wrong thing and that gave them enough to formally arrest him.

Still don't know why he was allowed to return to work - and still is allowed to return to work and travel interstate - when under investigation. I know he can't exactly WFH and be under home arrest, but he's in another state and it's not like he's due back until either Richmond's R15 bye or the Eagles game R18, if they needed anything more from him

There's quite a difference in proceedings required for a person who is on bail compared to someone the police wish to extradite to WA for a crime they aren't yet arrested for.

They don't really want another Sydney Stack situation where he spends a long time in gaol waiting for his hearing either.

The court process is really slow. His attendance might not even be required for a year.

Meh

Welcome to the other side of the AFL Adam /WC .

No other club gets /has gotten a cruisier ride with the media (local) than west coast.

Have been more than happy to stick the boot in to us in our darkest times , arrogantly thinking “that ll never happen to them”

Actively gleaned/dare say even contributed to the states media basically running RTB out of town like a pack of rabid dogs with a front page of the west basically dedicated to a good riddance article whilst our club was ravaged by injury and poor decision making.

Where was the empathy then?

Karmas a bitch ey

I know that this is the wrong thread to be talking about Carlton. But I stand by the comment that their is list terribly over-rated.

Just a few points (there are many that can be made), last weekend their starting midfield (according to the afl.com.au lineup) was:

Tom De Koning - the young gun ruck! Wanted by every other club! Will get 700k+ at Geelong! Except do you know who is statistically similar to ... that other "young gun ruck" Bailey Williams of WCE. Anyone here want to hype up WCE's Williams?

Patrick Cripps - I'll concede this one. I don't like Cripps because of his faux-tough guy act but he is undoubtedly a very good midfielder

Adam Cerra - the star recruit! The "cherry on top"! Except the year he was snatched away from Freo we had Brayshaw, Serong and him as young midfielders and Fyfe and Mundy as old midfielders. Out of those 5 midfielders, I would have ranked Cerra 4th: behind Brayshaw, Fyfe, and Serong. For many he would be ahead of Mundy just because Mundy was nearing the end. So Carlton grabbed the 4th best midfielder at a team not playing finals and some this was a big hyped up trade. He is a good footballer by not some star recruit "about to take his game to the next level".

Ed Curnow - enough said. A great clubman but if he is in your starting midfield then you don't have a great list. He tagged on Sunday night ... and made 0 (zero) tackles

Of course they also had Sam Walsh (like Cripps a very good midfielder going through a tough patch) and Matthew Kennedy (a guy who has been in and out of both GWS and Carlton, has only played 88 games in 8 seasons and avereages only 18 disposals a game ... as a midfielder)

I could go on and on about over-paid, over-hyped bog average players like Jack Martin, Mitch McGovern, Adam Saad, etc but you get the drift.

(fun fact: Adam Saad doesn't even average 20 disposals a game. For a supposed elite half back that is meant to get lots of uncontested possessions and set up attacking transitions that is pretty ordinary. Compare him, statistically to Hayden Young who is six years younger, probably half the salary cap and a quarter of the profile)

I just mentioned 9 Carlton players ... how many of those 9 would we genuinely want on our list?

I'd pick up only three: Walsh, Cerra, Cripps.

Did you deliberately exclude a genuinely good KPD in Weitering and the best key forward in the game in Curnow? Not to mention a decent KPF in McKay?

Carlton's list might be over-hyped but saying it's bottom 5 is nutty. That list should be playing finals as far as I'm concerned, not contending or doing any real damage but not making finals with the names you've mentioned (and excluded) is an abject failure

I'd have Carlton as a top 4-6 list on available talent. 2 Coleman medallists, both young. Reigning Brownlow medallist in the midfield, another Brownlow quality midfielder in Walsh and a potential A Grader in Cerra. Supported by better than handy soldiers in guys like Hewett and Acres plus a stopper in Curnow. Down back they've got an AA quality big in Weitering, a good young KP in Young and some decent guys around them. Add in an A grader in Docherty in either the backs or Mids and its a very solid list. Top heavy but still with decent depth.

Definite culture/coaching issues it would seem and the culture issues make the coaching ones almost impossible to get right. The Board gets torn apart every 2-3 yrs when the angry outsiders seize control, toss the coach and get their preferred guy in there. Rinse and repeat. The faces change but the factions remain.

The Cook hire was very scary. Even scarier was the possibility they we getting hold of Lyon. Had that come off they'd be sitting much prettier. Cook with Lyon would have been massive for them. Thankfully the factions couldn't line up because some noisy supporters were anti-Lyon so they spooked the Board.

I doubt Cook will put up with the constant upheaval that joint has so fingers crossed he gets jack of it all in a couple of years and gets out because he does have the demonstrated nous to turn it around. His biggest issue is the empty shirts and massive egos around the place that will think they know better than him.

he was talking only about the midfield tbf

they had their list at its peak last year evident by brownlow, coleman and AAs and still couldnt make the finals. most of their good players have dropped off this season and they dont have any where near enough support so to the bottom they drop.

theres no way that list is near top 4, media hype around their big names has everyone lost

you cant have a top 4 list if youre playing jack silvagni, ed curnow, fisher, cottrell, motlop, young etc

Ahh I missed that Johnny Dalmas but to be fair, I dont think you can claim a list is bottom 5 and then not discuss two thirds of the ground
