The rules have changed this year, Mansell was always getting suspend but he braved for contact due to timing and Aish just getting to the ball first. If Manaell had gotten their first, Aish would have copped the same holiday.

Like I said, he was always getting suspended, I just don’t think these are the actions we should be going for. It was circumstance, not intent or carelessness
I don’t disagree but he should have nailed Aish’s shoulder. He almost did but collected a fair bit of his head as well. Mansell just needed to get a little (only a bit) lower and would have been a good fair hit. I was surprised Freo players didn’t remonstrate a bit but it didn’t look terrible and Fyfe closest player was more concerned with Aish.

Fair, another point I’ll make is Mansell and DeGoey getting the same length is completely ducking dumb

Personally thought De Goey should've got 4. Bullshit that he didn't. Plays for a big Vic club is the only reason he didn't get more weeks.

Andre Gaff would suggest otherwise. The guys stand up for each other

At least one player did push Mansell but it was a fair bit after the hit. Most seemed more concerned with Aish.
Because it was clearly an accident, not malicious, just made a poor choice (to brace) instead of trying to pull out.

Getting the same penalty as de Goey tells you everything wrong with the MRO/tribunal these days

I agree purely for the fact that both were labeled careless. DeGoey should have been intentional.

Carlton have the critical mass of A graders that a quality coach could exploit with supporting role players. We should be happy they don't have one.

Also, Cerra is a quality player. He's maybe not the player we hoped he'd be with us (yet at least) but he is still very good.

They have 10-12 very good players. Most teams would dream of having that group imo. Replace most teams best 10-12 players with Carlton’s and they’d be better but almost no one is swapping anyone after that.

Problem is the rest of their best 22 and depth players are probably as bad as any team outside the bottom three. Not many of the rest of their team gets a game in a top eight side.

If 3-4 of those very good players are out all of a sudden it’s 6-9 good players and 13-16 below average players running around. That doesn’t win you many games imo.

This. List has quality but is unbalanced. No coaching quality and the club's off-field culture needs cleaning out.

I'm firmly of the belief that good coaches can find a way to maximise what they have. Their coaches have sucked.

To a degree imo. Ross Lyon probably made the most of a poor last 5-6 players despite probably having a smaller group of elite players at both St Kilda and Freo. What he did have a much larger group of players that were actually AFL standard.

The second or third worst player in those teams is probably the tenth worst player in this Carlton side.

Whoever comes in would still need 2-3 years minimum to find enough reliable players to be a top four side. And I’m talking a very good coach here.

I agree with most of what you say, except the second sentence when it comes to Freo. The following were either AA or close to it at various stages:
McPharlin, Johnson
Sandilands, Barlow, Mundy, Fyfe, Hill, Neale
Pavlich, Walters, Ballantyne

Carlton might have 2 x gun KPF, but what we had absolutely pisses on Carlton for A grade talent and was more balanced across the park (e.g. ruck, small forwards, wing). Someone like Docherty is in Carlton's best 6-8 players and he would be on par with someone like Duffield who wasn't even in our best dozen.

I don't think Carlton's best 10-12 players is even close to as good as people are making out ... Weitering is OK but bereft of leadership and can't marshall the defence, then Saad and Docherty running around but can't defend. A one-paced midfield of Cripps, Walsh, Cerra. Twin towers. That's only 8 players. I'm struggling to think who rounds out their top 10 ... it is probably players who were let go from their previous club like Kennedy, Hewett, McGovern, Acres.
