They've got no players to front load

All their draftees will be in year 1 and 2 meaning they're stuck on base contracts

They need picks not cap space

A player signing a five to seven year extension now, like we are attempting to secure with Amiss, and getting that first season of the new deal massively bumped up is front loading a contract.

They need mature bodies to fill the gap on their age profile, so they need money to lure them over to end their careers at WC.

They need players under 27 who can offer more than pick #50 in the draft.

Back to Sharp if I may. A couple of things.
Firstly, a club doesn’t NOT (deliberate double negative) play a guy if he’s Best 22/23, especially if they’re contending for the 8 as GC no doubt hope they are. We played Lobb and Cerra every game they were available even though we knew they were both leaving. That’s just shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t. Sharp is playing seconds for a reason - there are better players ahead of him.
Secondly, a fringe player who wants to go home to a two-team town can’t afford to get peeved at one of the clubs unless he knows the other club will definitely pick him up. I’m pretty sure WC would be interested - shit they’d probably take just about anyone over 20 and under 30 who wanted to go there - but if Freo were also interested and prepared to offer a similar deal, how ‘salty’ would you have to be to choose them?
Anyone who says GC are salty at him, or he’s salty at Freo (to the point he’d CHOOSE the weags) has no clue.

They need everything. They back ended Nic Nat and Mcgoverns contracts at this late stage, they are a rabble yet don’t possess the courage or intelligence to pay to cut dead wood.

Collingwood were the laughing stock of the AFL when they did this but it turned out fine. WC will just wallow in the mess they created.

Kelly, McGovern, Ryan, Yeo.

Probably in that order, depending on Yeo's physical condition and Ryan's continued positive relationship with the local reporters.

Kelly and McGovern would be very expensive though, salary cap wise.
Interesting question and something WC should consider if they are serious about the rebuild

Kelly - I don’t think they would let him go , cost too much so would lose face (more) and young enough to build around . Also I would be concerned where he fits in the midfield and whether it would upset the apple cart

McGovern- I think is pretty cooked with regular injuries but he would be a perfect replacement if Pearce goes down

Ryan - exactly the player we need right now . I would get this done if it was put on the table

Yeo- nah , too risky injury wise and drops his bottom lip pretty quickly , bad vibe guy when the going gets tough . Not a good barometer for our young kids

McGovern is either faking his injuries, or keeps going down

I believe Yeo grew up a Freo supporter, and it's a shame (despite his injuries) he didn't jump ship years ago. He has his publican career to look forward to.
Yep that's true, Elliot Yeo grew up a Freo supporter. Sad that we didn't get the chance to trade him in

I have said this before and will say it again.

If I was a member of the eagles board and looked at the ageing list, you are not gonna get rid of the older players in 1 season. They will be phased out over 2-4 years.

As I said, look how Freo phased out the old players in 2017-19.

Jono Griffin, Zac Dawson and Garrick Ibbotson retired in 2017. Ibbotson was a surprise to me as he was only 29 years old.

Danyle Pearce, Lee Spurr and Michael Johnson retired in 2018. All 3 were 32 years old.

Sandilands and Ballantyne retired in 2019.

That was 8 blokes gone from that 2012-15 finals era.

We did it it much quicker than WC and our issues weren't as terminal. The Dee's cut around 15 a year for 3 years after Neeld.

WC turned over about the same amount of players that Freo did in 2022. They are blinded by their ego's.

Essendon put together a team from scraps when all of their players got banned. They were so much better than this current WC team it's not funny. Actually, it is funny.

It ll be 4 this season and 4 next.
Don’t have a choice. The 8 won’t find a single difference to helping the club.

Bite the bullet this season:
Hurn
Darling
Shuey
Nicnat

Shuey will be so full of ego that he truly will believe he’s fit and at his best to help the club. Better off just tapping him on the shoulder.
Darling- enough said. Should’ve retired 2020 with the Covid stuff.

NicNat- honestly believe this management/club are petrified to ask him to shape up, get fit let alone even ask to retire. Has missed 2 full years in the past 5 years. Anyone else, and it’s a delisting. But because it’s Nic..

Yeo should be another. Player with chronic soft tissue injuries. He’s another hamstring away form being out for 3 months.

None of the players will make it easy. All ego driven centric players.

I’d take Kelly, Ryan and Allen in a heartbeat. Just one of those guys puts us in top four contention

i'd take Yeo for like a 4th round pick, speculative. See if he can get fit for a year or two.

Ryan is overrated. Allen is like Fevola, he looks great in a shit team because he gets targeted every time they go forward.

Kelly would cost too much and doesn't fit in our midfield.

Can’t say I agree with any of that. Yeo I’m not interested in due to age and history of injury. Ryan is exactly what we need as a dangerous small/medium forward. Allen and Amiss would be deadly. Kelly comes in for Fyfe or Erasmus.
