Hi gang, the poll for Poster of the Year closes in a bit over a week so before you slip into a food coma please get in there and vote for your favourite game preview if you haven't already. It's a bloody close contest so far, so your vote absolutely counts.

The preview posters gave good effort to entertain & inform us over the season, so please honour their work by casting your vote.

Price hike isn't going to be the only issue

They're inevitably going to split the sports onto their own services (look at DAZN's overseas model, NFL Gamepass)

We are going to look back on Kayo as the golden days of streaming, paying one sub and getting AFL, Cricket, NRL + whichever other fringe sport you watch recreationally

It's gonna end up being, buy one sub and get a discount on other subs i.e AFL and Cricket subs, which is going to cost a lot more than just buying a single Kayo sub for all the sports

As long as they improve the product.
Lags & goes missing, usually during Freo games
& I have zero issues with other streaming services

I dont pay for Kayo due to working away. It's not worth the money for me. But others I know do and they have issues similar to yours. Which is why I won't pay for it. I'll just watch the game for free on the AFL app 24 hrs later.

I just heard the new owner is russian.
Looks like no kayo for me any more.
I might need to go to Crown to watch non-Melbourne games (I live in Southbank)

Len was born in Ukraine but don't let that detail get in the way.

Most people here seem to be talking about Kayo, but I watch all my footy through Foxtel. No dropouts or streaming issues. The picture quality is top shelf.

Plus I like being able to flick channels easily if I want to. Whether that be two games being played at once, or watching something else that's not footy. There's also the recording benefits using the Foxtel box.

I hope this DAZN mob does not move to a streaming-only platform.

Geez, twice in close succession you have corrected me.
I was only going by the 7 news report.
I'll look into it more closely.
Thanks again for the info

You trust 7 news to be factual ? In that case I've got a coat-hanger shaped bridge in Sydney I'm trying to offload at a bargain price. Please DM me before someone else grabs it.

Me too. I've taken all my sport, and other stuff, through Foxtel for 20 years. Picture quality and overall coverage always superb.

Foxtel is great if you want all the other channels but for those of us only interested in the sport then it is not worth it. Plus, with Kayo you can watch whatever games you want when you want which if I remember correctly you can't do with Foxtel unless you have recorded it.

As far as cost of living expenses go I consider a subscription to Pay TV a luxury indulgence. Besides, I get enough sport for free and personally I have a tipping point of about 2.5 games of AFL every weekend. After that I feel like I should be doing something else.

The only minor issue would be if there's some effect on the deal that is in place in WA that allows AFL games on Pay TV to be broadcast free to air via Channel 7 for the local teams.

Newscorp does maintain a small interest of 6% in DAZN as well as a seat on the board of directors.

This essay "The Billionaire's Playlist" in the New Yorker is almost 11 years old but I found it an interesting read into the background of this Leonid Valentinovich Blavatnik fellow back when he was making his first investments in the music biz.

The proxy 12fl ladder link should give a free read (although my internet is mucking about a bit and sometimes it comes up on the page and sometimes it's says bad gateway)
