I hope so but Richmond won 2 games last year and got worst. WC might get worse too but they probably need another 2-3 big injuries to their spine to be on Richmond’s level.
West Coast have multiple qualty KPP. Richmond have noted thug, Balta and the corpse of Lynch.

That's enough to separate them. Can't see Richmond finishing above anyone unless some team loses their best 8 players to injury or something diabolical like that.

Eek, is the "Ross Lyon Curse" a real thing...?!?! Every club has injuries, and Freo are no different right now. But here go Saints with 3 big injuries already. Phillipou and Marshall pretty important players you'd estimate; Dow maybe a bit more 'peripheral'....crims

Oops, I missed Dougal Howard. Yikes

If you are West Coast, do you try to keep Oscar Allen, or get a very likely top 4 pick for him?

I know for me, it is a very easy decision.

Obviously, they should keep him so they don't bottom out and stay shit for a long time.

Trade him to Sydney and get Warner.

I think his injury history would drop his value well below top 4.

The Eagles might see it as a key to Chad Warner. If they finish bottom 6 and get Band 1 for Oscar they might have a hand that would be impossible to match

Surely they finish bottom 3, very likely 2nd bottom.

If you are the Eagles, and have pick 2 and 3, do you trade pick 3 for Warner straight up?

If not, who gets more?

That's the worst kept secret of the season.
I recall calling this one on here the day Daniher retirement was announced.
It’s possibly the most obvious post season player move in AFL footy at the moment.

Brisbane will easily pay enough to get a 5 or 6 year replacement for Daniher and deliver the eagles a band 1 compo.
No draft picks involved.
Cap space after losing Daniher.
Extend the contention window while rebuilding on the run.
Good recent history of getting formerly injury prone players on the park consistently.
Give eagles the extra top 5 pick they crave.

I think there's an element of Andrew McDougall and Tom Petroro throwing AFL media figures a bone on Allen and Rowell as part of their negotiation with West Coast and Gold Coast.

Both players have the club suggesting that their lack of availability while being paid means there's some money to leave on the table for the next deal and neither player wants to do that.

If Battle was a first round pick, surely Allen is.

He probably needs a good year this year.

Yep. It isn’t even debatable what band of compensation it is.

Question will only come into it if Brisbane have a really bad year and somehow miss the eight then West Coast start thinking about forcing a trade and getting two first rounders and possibly more (Robinson?). I can’t see the first part of that happening and think West Coast finish bottom three which makes this whole discussion irrelevant.

Having said all that I don’t think Allen will be easy for them to replace nor do I actually think he’ll jump ship unless West Coast low ball him to force him out and get that top four pick.

Hawthorn’s first rounder thrown in with something else from Sydney coming back imo.

Actually now I think of it West Coast’s second rounder probably adds just as much to the trade as that pick swap does.

Firstly I agree with you - if Allen is moving as a FA, he’s the safest bet to hit band 1 compo I’ve seen in many years. Absolutely cast iron certainly. Brisbane would probably need to pay over $1m a year and it’s just not possible that won’t be band 1.

It then depends where WCE finish. I think they could improve to 14th or 13th this year. They did add some decent mature aged players in the off season. That would equal a pick around 5 or 6 for Allen.
Is that enough? Probably.

What does it mean for the Chad Warner chase? Eagles would be loaded with two top 6 picks. I’d imagine pick 5 and pick 14 or so from hawthorn would be needed as a minimum to prise Chad out of Sydney.
We won’t be able to compete on picks regardless with WCE. We would need Chad to specifically nominate us.

If I was on the Eagles list management I absolutely would not be letting go of Allen. He's the most important player on their list beside Harley Reid.
You make a very good point - culture/leadership - he's a big contributor and very hard to replace. He will help their rebuild enormously if he's around the club for the next six years+.
