Maybe.

They've both just got better and stronger since we played them. The Swans have 7 or 8 players under 22 .

You rule the line at the end of the year and start again. Every year throws up something you don't expect.

Yep, but form lines shift over the year as well. I remember us discussing this earlier in the year when Melbourne were on a tear. I held some suspicions that they may have been peaking too early.

You are right though. New season and the cards get shuffled all over again.

Teams are going to put more work into the Pies now, and they have earned themselves a tougher fixture.

They showed vision of a Pies supporter on the boundary . Well I won't describe him because the wokeists will go me . But he was balling his eyes out.

That was a nice moment.

Woke generally means "extremely focussed on social injustice". There is nothing unjust about Collingwood tears.

Nah, totally softens the blow of last night.

In years to come, people won't recall of us being belted by 12 goals in a Prelim.

They'll recall the Pies losing by 1 point though, ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha :D

This was the year they were on a roll and truly believed when no one else did.

I reckon they would've pinched it.

It's tougher for them next year. He got De Goey up for a few weeks. A whole year might be problematic.

Tougher fixture

More skinny losses than skinny wins, injuries to a few key players.

They had a dream run for weeks on end.

I like Fly but the true test is ahead of him if things get a bit difficult next season

It's a disgrace that Swans are in the GF before us. We have been thereabouts for 4 ******* years. They come in and in two years make the GF. Where have we gone wrong besides poor coaching?
My personal view is that we over achieved and once the opposition cottoned on to the fact that we weren't bad put more work into us and figured out how to expose us in pressure games.

So we need to keep getting better and less predictable to hold our position in the top 5 or 6 teams.

They play defence first footy. Selflessness on every line. Even Buddy when he won't take the mark or kick the goal put in some big bumps/Sheppard's and blocks. Blokes in his mid 30s and doing more than Daniher ever has. It just shits me that we have the cattle, we just don't have the team first ethos that the clubs playing in the Grand Final have.

Lol.

That was weeks ago.

They fully deserved to be there and would've won the flag had their luck not run out.

Not that I'm unhappy about it , but surely any footy follower has to admire the way they played this year.

No other choice but to play that way given the very average list

IMO Cats would have defeated the Pies quite easily as they will the Swans. Unstoppable at the moment like us in 2001 or the Dees last year

Our pressure last night was horrendous and our forward entries were esteem destroying. Totally deviated from the madcap play from last week. Playing Joe really straightened us up. Problem is he is not Hawkins and can’t win a contest. Swans have a good chance next week.

Considering the Lions didn’t make the Grand Final and we have already booked a trip to Melbourne and are going anyway.

For those in the know, is there any likelyhood that there will be any general public tickets up for sale for the Grand Final?
And when it may be?

I would be more inclined to think that if we come through their side of the draw we would have made the Grand Final too.

Buckley’s. Only hope (if you don’t have connections) is corporate or scalpers.

Not poor coaching per se, but they've kept adding to their list both on players and coaching wise. Longmire got a tactician in Don Pyke doing a very good 2IC job for him. Longmire credited him for improving the ball movement in 2021 and it's gone up another level for them this year.

Usually their midfield is the suspect one beyond Parker, but addition of Mills to the midfield and Warner, Rowbottom going up another level has helped them immensely.

They seem to be doing well picking up bargains like Paddy McCartin. They also kept their faith with Dylan Stephens and he's finally starting to show the pick 5 value.

I'd go as far as saying if we have role players like Answerth who can hold their own against 14 teams but usually get found out against top 4, I'd swap them for new players who have potential but not ready. I'd rather take that hit now and see where we are in a year or two than keep trying with the same players. Wilmot got a chance and showed something, he'll be even better with one more pre-season.

Gardiner proved me wrong this year with a great finals series against Martin, Fritsch and Cameron. Can he continue to do that for a full season in 2023 after all his past injuries, that I'm not sure. I don't like the balance of Harris, Adams, Gardiner as a mix. I'd like to keep playing Payne and see if we can pick up another 1 or 2 KP defenders during the off season.

The defense tall timber mix needs a tweak, we need a bit more pace and close down speed like what Payne offers to our team. I'd prefer a Harris, Payne + a tall lockdown defender with more pace. Happy to have Gardiner as break the glass depth next year.

Not in relation to anything above, but in terms of Non-Lions discussion, has anyone seen a thank you to the Lions for taking Richmond out of the finals?
it was only 7 or so weeks before the finals that the tigers had Geelong well and truly covered, until a last gasp goal to Henry (I think) got them home. The tigers were deep in attack when the siren blew. Admittedly the Great Man was an out for the catters.
Richmond could have beaten any of the other 7 teams IMHO.

So could have we on our day

Lets see how the Swans stand up against Geelong next week!
I reckon Geelong would've been out in straight sets if Collingwood had've rolled them. Which clearly they should've.

Everyone fawning over Geelong hasn't quite realised how insipid we were.

The Swans are in this up to their ears.
