Non-Lions discussion 2023

I think that the Panthers would have won at least 5 in a row (they still could) if some of their best players didn't leave for $$$. In the end they probably would have made more money from playing with Penrith from sportsman's nights and sponsors. Imagine playing for the Bulldogs and Tigers (NRL versions) and watching your mates win flag after flag while you will be stuck at the bottom for years. For non-NRL followers, both of these teams are run 10x worse than the Lions were in 2013.

My heart goes out to those that sat there through both losing GFs this weekend. The Cowboys GF win over the Broncos a few ago was also so close. No wonder people play computer games....

That was different. Broncos fans could handle a NQ win. In a game that they played till the death.

Caroline Bloody Wilson!!! Fair dinkum, where does she get off sometimes? On last night's Footy Classified, she said "Will Ashcroft wasn't good enough to win the Rising Star award." When it was pointed out that he missed weeks with his ACL injury, she dismissively muttered "Not many!" (Actually July 22, so six weeks.) But Naicos missing three allowed Lachie to steal his Brownlow! Enough Victorian bias, and I'm a Vic.
I'm pretty sure this was her saying Ashcroft should have won, no? She was basically he should have won because he polled so well at the Brownlow compared to Sheezel.

She hates North a lot more than she hates us.

What a game of rugby that was. Broncos have thrown that one away unfortunately. Could not see the panthers coming back from that but WOW how did they do that.
Because Cleary is an absolute freak .
Wins games off his own back .

Solid efforts, especially Hamilton

Definitely not how I heard her. Jake Niall tried to defend Ashcroft, but Caro shut him down quick smart.

Caro was saying Sheezel was a worthy winner and outshone Ashcroft.

We might be talking about different clips then, in the one I heard (linked) she mentions it at about 1:30 and to me it comes off as a dig towards Kornes who voted on the Rising Star (essentially saying the umpires rated him, why didn't you).

Can't be bothered searching for the clip but I'm 99% certain that at some point she said something along the lines of "it's astonishing that no-one gave Ashcroft full votes for the Rising Star" (again, said as a dig at Kornes).

Don't think she has any love for us or Ashcroft, but she hates North with a burning passion.

Ok. I’m definitely referring to The Age Footy Podcast.

Believe it’s in this episode, pre finals.

Was there for that one. I was over the moon. I'm 1-1 at NRL Grand Finals, 2-0 at A League, and 0-2 at AFL. :(
Hmm ... if it is a GWS v Lions GF we will have to make sure you are no where near the stadium (three days later and it is still tied after each successive time on when someone in the crowd realises you are there and it is all your fault!!!!)

Of course that would be unassailable as to combined score, winning score, losing score, game length etc etc first player to kick 50 goals in a match etc... so there is that ;)

What is your connection to GWS dlanod? Have often seen little references from time to time so have wondered.
Moved to Sydney about 20 years ago, and GWS play about 15 minutes from me so signed up as a Foundation Member.

Imagine if this type of intervention involved a player who holds less power than Clayton Oliver. A young, fringe, indigenous player for example. It could be received/interpreted quite differently depending on the situation.

Is it just me or are the Broncs the Collingwood of the NRL. Huge fan base and almost always bottling grand finals. The Brissiewobbles

Manly has always been the “Collingwood” of the NRL.

Brisbane is the “West Coast” of the NRL.

Already moved in with Gawn according to trade radio this morning.

I’ve been to two broncos games in my life, one was a manly game. Manly supporters are a mix of pies and tigers supporters, absolute scum.

maybe controversial but i dont find collingwood supporters too bad

my conspiracy theory is that supporters of the other big 3 constantly harp on about how terrible collingwoods supporter base is to mask the fact that they are all worse than collingwood themselves

Maybe now, but attending games at Victoria Park was sometimes scary. Even if they won.

Literally all I've seen on the website formerly known as twitter are magpies fans posting pics of their team celebrating the premiership to every single thing the poor lions social team posts. So given I don't know a heap of pies fans in real life, that's my impression of them (as it was of tigers supporters).

Would say in person tigers fans have always been worse than the pies to me.

Just an observation but if you're looking for understanding, even handedness and the goodness of the human spirit the last place to go is twitter. If on the other hand you want to hear millions of dumb people react insanely to whatever it is that they dislike then it's like gold.

Essendon fans were always the worst growing up. Just used to get that Presbyterian always right vibe viewing opposite the grandstand at Windy Hill. Bit of a humourless bunch really. But the Hird thing has given some of them a dose of humility of recent years.

In my time in footy I'd go Bombers , Pies , Tigers and Eagles. Blues win hands down for misplaced smugness.

In trying to compile a list I quickly began to realise I don't like any of the others much.

Yes obviously, but despite the best efforts of Mr Musk it remains the best place to get breaking news rather than checking 4 different footy sites. I'm sure that will change eventually though.

The 'breaking news ' thing is a funny one isn't it.

It seems everyone goes out of their way to break news even if it's about a duck crossing the road.

We didn't really need to know back in the day. I mean even now , it breaks , lots of people go off their nut , presumptions and assumptions , eventually everyone knows and it's no big deal. You see it all over SM people just want to know crap.

It's why Governments and organisations have conga lines of PR people to spin news , make it up or cover it up if someone beats them to the punch.

Strange world.

The trouble with Collingwood supporters these days is they're too self-aware of what and who they are. Carlton and Richmond fans suffer no such condition.
