Boort v Wyche-Narraport
Donald v Birchip Watchem
Wedderburn v Charlton :thumbsu:

Andyt30: You justified your selection of Birchip Watchem. Perhaps now you could enlighten us on your preference for Wedderburn over Charlton.

Navy Blues for mine. Too skilful, too quick, too talented.

Boort v Wyche. Boort to win by 25 goals the big T to kick another 11.

Wedderburn v Charlton. Im tipping the Draw.

Birchip Watchem v Donald. Birchip Watchem in a struggle to half time but then will kick away. Ryan to kick 10. Donald wont kick above 10 goals dont have fowards to kick a winning score.

Re: North Central Football League

There is another thread out there 'top 5 at your club' i thought i would note mine in here as not too many other people give a toss about the NCFL.

I know Wedderburn have not won a flag in nealy 40 years but over the past 10 years they have had some handy players. Unfortunatly none of the players mentioned below have stood up for the redbacks when it counts, but they have played consistant footy over a period of time.
1. Shayne Ward - W'burns first ever Feeny medalist and helped them get to the GF in 2000 & 2001. Missed his drive out of the middle when he left and it showed what a huge impact he had when he played. Goal kicking onballers are extermly valuable.
2. Allan Wise - Once again with Wardy, was huge in getting them to the GF and only stopped playing up there cos his bushrangers contract stipulated no footy. Worked hard and took mark after mark around the ground. Goods skills on both sides.
3. Ben Rose - Although not the most skilful, he would have to be one of the most insiprational players in the league. Would weigh 60kg dripping wet but would always put his body on the line against much bigger opposition. Has played well over 100 games and would not have played too many bad ones.
4. Kristian Shevlin - Came to the club in 2000 and kicked over 100 goals in the next 2 years. Would kick 9/10 including from outside 50. Fitness was not his stong point.
5. Robert (D i c k) Steel - B & F winner and as tough as they come. Work rate was exeptional and made players walk taller around him. Local product who gave what he could.

Unlucky to miss out - Matt Sutherland, Brett Connors, Chris Harrington, Clint Turnball, Dean Lockhart, Mick Harrington.
Legends of the club are Tim Lockhart, Chris Holt, Lee Hall, Tony Holt. These guys give there all but aren't as talanted as the above mentioned.

would Kane Gould get the "best ever drinker" tag at Wedderburn??:D

he loves his gas!

Wedderburn readers should also be updated on one of their favorite sons in Michael K Harrington. After departing Wedderburn in 2003, Harry played in 2 flags at Colbinabbin off the half back flank. 2005 he hung them up after doing his hammy for the 700th time during pre-season training. 2006 comes around and Harry's got plans to do the running for the Bendigo Bombers and play a few games for Colbo in the second half of the year, only problem is that harry's love of monday night mixed netball turned sour just a few weeks ago and the knee that held him together for all those yrs at the Burn and Colbo gave way....

so next time you Burn supporters see the great man, make sure you ask him how he did his knee...? he''l loath to tell the story!!!

Kayno definately has shown interest in wanting to become the biggest gas man in the burn, all his training on the pots was a clear indication of that fact. However the argument has to be put forward that no one could have consumed more beverages at the Wedderburn Football Club than none other than the great man himself Kristian Shevlin. Each year he relentlessly ate pots on top of pots and increased his stronghold on the title that is "Biggest Beer Drinker" And tht is why Shevlin became the Back-to-Back-to-Back-to-Back BBD champion. Kayne Gould was not disgraced in his attempts though... a valent attempt.

did bangers connors make the interleague side? and what number does he wear?

wayne as my name suggests i wear number #4, as for interleague i'm yet to commit as i had penciled in a massive weekend in the gym focusing on toning my massive bi's and tri's. if i can squeeze in a few more arm curl sets and rep's each nite until interleague, and i'm if i'm happy with how chiselled they are looking by then, i mite play.

hang on i mite be booked in for a solarium and wax that day? i'll keep u posted.

oh Patty you do talk the truth about the great Shev who everybody loved but if you wont to talk about real booze hounds at the Wedderburn club lets talk about one of the greatest footballers to ever play at the burn by the name of Shayne Ward. The true Cardinal who changed the life of so many men who tried but failed misrebly to drink pots with someone who could drink like a camel, rumor has it that he even drank the great WIG under. Good on ya Shayne keep it up:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Yes roksinga... We all know that Grant wouldn't come in here to pump himself up.... I thought that Grant might have foresaken the gym session tonight and that he would be getting ready for the deb ball this evening.

i heard a bit of a rumour over the weekend Cameron Byrne is considering making a comeback to Boort??

You definately tipped the right team Bluey but the game was pretty even so your comments on Charlton being to quick, to skillfull and to talented could be debated. I'd say the burn matched you with speed and skill and talent, however i think the main reason charlton got over the line was their experience. Even though you have lost a fair slice of your premiership team, Blokes like Andrews, Thompson, Walklates and Judd seem to know how to win those types of games. You can't replace experience in tight situations.

But it was a good game and i'm looking forward to the next clash

Re: North Central Football League

After this weekends round there are now 3 genuine contenders for the flag.

Boort- Have showed some brilliant early season form including some big wins and with the Picioane and Rutley brothers playing good football they deserve the right to hold flag favouritism at this stage in the season.

Birchip / Watchem - Have also showed good form early with some big wins and kicking some big scores. A forward line that includes Scambler and Cliff Ryan is always capable of kicking a winning score.

Donald - After the weekend showed that they have improved from their 93 point drubbing at the hands of Boort two weeks earlier and as their recruits continue to play better team footy they will only get better.

As is always the case there is a darkhorse amongst the field and this season Charlton would be the outsider. With a win first up against Boort and with a team of fleet footed skilful young players, many of whom are premiership players already they cannot be counted out of premiership calculations.

I would have thought that a Deb Ball is exactly where Grant would be??

16/17 year olds are his main target market...

X man i'm sensing u have a very close bond with Grant Connors as u seem 2 be somewhat disturbed by the friendly banter surrounding him, and especially envious when related to his prefered target market, i know it hurts, if only u were 5 years younger u would fall into this category and your dreams of falling into the bulging arms of your idol would be fulfilled. If u take down his picture off your bedroom wall, u will find that u will cope far easier with your feelings as he won't be the last thing u see before u go sleep.

All the best with this emotional struggle your dealing with!! :D :D

Dave you seem to be concerned about the movements of Grant Conners, its starts to make me wonder if you are a man of the law or just concerned father of a beautiful daughter from wedderburn. If this is the case you need not worry Grant is a loyal man to the women as he is to his mates and his football club.

I reckon you pretty much on the money royal. Once again the season looks like it has sorted itself out pretty early. The only real thing that will shake things up is how sides will go once they suffer a few injuries, as some sides don't seem to have a great deal of depth in their seconds.

This weeks matches will be pretty interesting.

Wyche Vs St Arnaud. You would imagine that St Arnaud should get its first win.

Boort Vs Wedderburn. A must game for Wedderburn this early in the season. They need to win this to really stay in touch.

Charlton Vs Birchip. Birchip should bounce back against Charlton. Could be close.

Right on the money i think...my tips are
Wyche vs St. Arnaud - St Arnaud should come up with a win
Boort vs Wedderburn - agree, must win for wedderburn, but don't think they can cross the line
Charl Vs Birchip - Birchip by 6 goals

Re: North Central Football League

can anyone tell me how Ross Funcke is going in this league. I see donald have been struggling, is he up to coaching or has he just not got the talent there to work with??

From what I've seen of Donald I'd say that Ross Funcke is just about the least valuable of their recruits. Leigh Funcke and Mibus amongst others appear to be much better value. Ross was a bit soft considering his AFL background.
