Re: North Central Football League

In my spare time between my 500 crunches and 500 one armed push ups i've noticed the thread 'top 5 players at your club' so here's mine-

Wedderburn:1. Grant Connors - like watching a rendition of Shakespeare's 'a mid summernights dream' - poetry in motion, a classy ball magnet, unbelievable skills on both sides of his body, kicks the the ball 60 on both feet, great skills, tough and a sculptured and chiselled muscular upper torso to boot, magical hands above his head, at ground level, in the gym and in the showers, and has massive arms.
2. Grant Connors - " "
3. Grant Connors - " "
4. Grant Connors - " "
5. Grant Connors - " "

Just while i power down this protein shake loaded with supplements to get me through my intense aerobics oz style and bicep work out sessions, here is my 'top five tricep & bicep exercises' - remember my arms didn't get this big over night.
1.Standing bicep curl - 32 sets of 16 reps
2.Close Grip bench press - 12 sets of 12 reps
3.Inclined seated curl - 12 sets of 12 reps
4.tricep extensions - 12 sets of 12 reps
5.preacher curls - 12 sets of 12 reps

My training tips- workout in front of a mirror so you can admire your 'cannons' also it will help recognize any imperfections and tan lines as well as unwanted hair you may have missed after your visit to the heath & beauty day spa & solarium.

X man didnt Wilkens play interleague last year ???

True doug he travelled a long distance to represent all the way from Ballarat to Mildura if my memory serves me correctly. So i ask the question why wouldnt he along with Andrews be in the squad surely they are in the top 20 of our league. I think wilkens is a better player than Boe Bish!!!!

Wilkens would obviously be in the top 23 players in our league and therefore you would think he would have been selected in the squad. Let's not forget he won a feeny medal at the same time as coaching his side to a premiership only 18 months ago. John Cossar must be looking towards the younger players I think with a number of the North Central players who are making up the squad being in their early 20's or even younger. Not a bad policy however it could cause headaches with the new interleague format which means teams play all their games over one weekend. The saturday night in between games can win and lose games for some teams !!!

I cant believe you couldn't also fit Brett Connors into your top 5???

Re: North Central Football League

Master Of Roc....who are you actually? i'm guessing your from st.arnaud....

Re: North Central Football League

From all reports I would have thought the new recruit for Donald - Matthews?? - I think originally from the Mallee League?? would have talked his way into the North Central Squad. I hear that he is quite good at talking himself up into sides without proving it on the field.:)

Re: North Central Football League

I would like to see Aaron Wilson in the side. Young and very under rated backmen who gets tough jobs every week and performs well. Is holding the Boort backline together this year along with Andrew Cooney..

Re: North Central Football League

Aaron Wilson is a very good young footballer but give him 2 years and he could be anything, if his minds on the job not the girls & p i s s. Im talking top grade.

Seems the wheels have fallen off at Birchip. Smith is overseas and they are on a downward spiral

Smith will make a big difference, but Birchip are still to regain Brad Ryan who is set to come back from over seas. Finished very high in the league medal last year in a side that only won 1 game. Don't under estimate Donald though.

Tips for this weekend?

Re: North Central Football League

should be some good matches this weekend.

winners in bold

St Arnaud v Wyche. in a close one. Drum best on.

Birchip v Charlton. however, if it comes down to an arm wrestle charlton might just snatch victory. Cliff ryan 7 goals

Wedderburn v Boort. the burn need to sneak an upset in somewhere so why not this week. Hutton best with 8 goals

Hutton has kicked 22 in 4 games including 3 losses.

Game 1. (L) 3 goals 5 behinds

Game 2. (W) 5 goals 3 behinds

Game 3. (L) 5 goals 2 behinds

Game 4. (L) 9 goals 1 behind

Fraser left out this week but knocking very hard.

that's a fair tally already there patty. not sure fraser will be to disappointed in playing twos as he can crack a froffy earlier than expected. nothing better than a good old froffy

the big question, ratley, is do you think scambler is worth the $1K-$2K that he is getting a game?? he started well early but seems to have put the feet up, so to speak, in the last couple of weeks....

Re: North Central Football League

Both are playing at the top of their games...
Breals is getting constant awards, hasn't missed one yet (along with scott lloyd) im not sure how much hes getting payed, but i know hes travelling up with a mate from St Arnaud, and was planning on playing with him anyway, but there is a paypacket there (and deservidly so)

Soly has moved from his well loved forward line into the midfield, and is taking the leadership role really well, still kicks the odd 65m goal, but midfield is his spot at the moment. he is on an 'A/C' wage, which is higher than the players wage but not as high as the coaches... he also well and truly deserves what he is getting...

if St Arnaud can hold on to the both of them, they will be a force within the next 2 years. (that along with the returning players next year, which im not saying who they are, but its basically a done deal.)

Re: North Central Football League

St Arnaud bet Wyche by 96pts....Needs 9 goals 5 bh....could and should have had 13...there was a few that he would usually get, that he didn't.
Birchip bet Charlton, charlton seemed to really struggle with Finlay the only multiple goal kicker for the navies with 2... someone kicked 10 for the bulls (not sure who it was)
Boort bet Wedderburn in apparently what was a pretty good match, Lance Piccioni carved it up, and got B.O.F

St Arnaud played the best football they have since their grand final appearance against charlton a cpl of years ago, a 96 point win is a great sign, whether against the top side, or the bottom side, no saying one thing and meaning another. St Arnauds best were Breirley, Needs, Donaldson, Boyington, Lloyd next week we take on charlton who would be hoping to rebound well, and usually do, if St Arnaud can apply the same style of football as they did today, they WILL have a great chance of taking the points, and edging closer to a higher spot on the ladder.

St Arnaud reserves also won against an old and struggling wyche side, signs were good, and they will also need to apply a more 'quick' style of football to defeat other sides in the competition. if the 'reserves' style of football is applied to the game, they will struggle, they have alot of legs and need to be able to use them, in order to win games.

Theres my lil report and my view on the way its going, would be great to see some more from the other 2 games in the league

Re: North Central Football League

Boort v Wedderburn was a good match.
Best for Boort was undoubtedly Lance Picione who racked up 41 possessions. Wedderburns best would had to have been Benny DeAraugo. He had a lot of possessions that were penetrating the Boort defence.
Thought Wedderburns new FF was kept pretty quiet by Cooney.
Boort's FF, big Tarek, was also kept quiet with only 2 goals however the delivery into the forward line was not up to scratch.
Connors played well.
Boort's kicking for goal is a worry. 18.18 and 21.21 in the last couple of weeks is very interesting.
Was impressed with Adam Ritchie who played very well all day for the redbacks.
Top of the table clash between Boort and Birchip this weekend should be a classic encounter... Wedderburn deserve some respect, very good side. I'm tipping will make finals...

Watched the game also ablett, thought Picioane was good. Best thing about his game was his ability to bring others into it. Didnt really have a lot of impact himself but set up a lot of forward thrusts by the other midfielders.
Agree the dreadlocked bloke from Wedderburn was kept quiet but the delivery to him was very ordinary, similar to Tarek at the other end. I think the Wedderburn FF still kicked a few though didnt he? 3-4? How many did DeArugo kick? 5-6?
Will be a very interesting clash at Birchip this week. I'll call it - game of the year so far. I'm tipping Boort by under a goal. Both sides rely on 3-4 blokes each though so a lot will hinge on their performances. Someone will have to stop Cliff Ryan though - in scintillating form!
Saw Wedderburn in Round 1 at Wyche and they have improved a lot. Will knock a few of the top sides off and would be good to see them sneak into the 4 by seasons end. Have lost one by 2 pts and one by 5 pts. Could easily be 3-2 instead of the 1-4 that they are at this stage. Donald will test them next week though.

Re: North Central Football League

I like your full report MOR. Throw one up each monday. I can do the same for the burn games. some of the other big footy followers can report on their teams also.Burn Vs Boort. In what was a closer game than expected Boort simply had the experience in the end. not disimilar from Wedderburns defeat to charlton last week. Boort were challenged by the redbacks all day and couldn't break the shackles of the wedderburn defence. Postle matched up well agains Tarek and had the better of him throughout the day. It was a similar story down the other end were Hutton found himself against a very handy defender. Both forwards were let down by the delivery. Midfield tussles were the feature of the day. Boort rotating about 100 blokes through the middle which kept them fresh all day. The burns lack of depth had DeAraugo, Turnbull, Connors and Ritchie doing most of the work in the middle. Boort have a well drilled on ball department which finds space in conjested contests. Wedderburn having to cover the 14 senior departures from last year are staring to play some good running football with youth and enthusiasm the order of the day. A far more impressive side from that of their opening week. Lets hope that 2 point loss to wyche doesn't give Charlton the 4 point buffer it needs to make the finals.Boort Best. Both piciones, Cooney, C RutleyBurns Best. Postle, DeAraugo, Turnbull, Benaim

Yes Patty that first up loss to Wyche could prove extremely costly come the end of the year. But never underestimate the ability of other teams to stuff things up.

You can be sure that at some stage this year there will be some upsets. Just having a look at the draw now, could come down to the final game of the year, to see who will get into the four.

yes hutton played pretty good considering that the delivery was terrible all day by wedderburn i think he finished with 5 or 6.... benny d played well all day kicked 2 or 3 goals and carved it up.... tarek had no chance all day with big p'rex (adam postle) had his measure :D :D :thumbsu:

Re: North Central Football League

Does anyone know how a Drew Bartram is going at Boort? Heard he was injured for most of last year so just wondering if he has been playing this year and how he has been going if he has?
