Re: North Central Football League

one thing i have taken notice of, there seems to be a BIG roundabout going on in the NCFL, wyche bet wedderburn, wedderburn bet St Arnaud, St Arnaud bet wyche.... same is going on up the top of the ladder, is a very good sign for the league, as any of the top 3-4 will pose a challenge to the flag

the big question, ratley, is do you think scambler is worth the $1K-$2K that he is getting a game?? he started well early but seems to have put the feet up, so to speak, in the last couple of weeks....

Might seem that way on the stat sheet MrsK but I think if you asked anyone at the Bulls they'd tell you he's worth every penny. From what I heard at the huddles on Saturday he was instructed to take Tim Hill (his tag) out of the forward 50 to leave it open for Ryan, a move that resulted in Cliff destroying his opponents 1 on 1 and kicking 10. Look for the Bulls to improve - this week against Boort should be the last without Brad Ryan and Al Smith.

Does anybody know where Mr Utility "Tony KEANE" is playing these days? Geez, wasn't he great to watch when on song! Surely one of the best this league has produced.

I like your full report MOR. Throw one up each monday. I can do the same for the burn games. some of the other big footy followers can report on their teams also.Burn Vs Boort. In what was a closer game than expected Boort simply had the experience in the end. not disimilar from Wedderburns defeat to charlton last week. Boort were challenged by the redbacks all day and couldn't break the shackles of the wedderburn defence. Postle matched up well agains Tarek and had the better of him throughout the day. It was a similar story down the other end were Hutton found himself against a very handy defender. Both forwards were let down by the delivery. Midfield tussles were the feature of the day. Boort rotating about 100 blokes through the middle which kept them fresh all day. The burns lack of depth had DeAraugo, Turnbull, Connors and Ritchie doing most of the work in the middle. Boort have a well drilled on ball department which finds space in conjested contests. Wedderburn having to cover the 14 senior departures from last year are staring to play some good running football with youth and enthusiasm the order of the day. A far more impressive side from that of their opening week. Lets hope that 2 point loss to wyche doesn't give Charlton the 4 point buffer it needs to make the finals.Boort Best. Both piciones, Cooney, C RutleyBurns Best. Postle, DeAraugo, Turnbull, Benaim

patty, very confused how you couldnt find a spot for haldane nelson in your top 4? thought he was very close to BOG.

Re: North Central Football League

Agreed Whistle. He is tireless at CHF for the magpies. Makes it to a lot of contests a game... He has a big engine....

rumour has it he may pull on the boots for ultima in the GRFL - has got a couple of collegues playing out there - would look pretty good sitting at full forward for the roos!!

Yeah definately could have been in there. Its hard to choose just 4 players. He probably could squeeze out Cooney considering hutton kicked 4 but knowing the class of hutton i think cooney was very important to the Boort Win. Nelson looks a very likely type. hard to match up on.

I think he was produced up at Tyntinder in swan hill mate. Was a superstar from a very early age. Someone might get the exact figures here but i think he won 5 senior premierships by the yime he was 22 and had kicked 3 or 4 Centuries as well.

Re: North Central Football League

Bartram for Boort did play on the weekend, but will miss for the next few as he is having groin surgery on wednesday for his troublesome O.P. Heard he's on a fair packet, but is worth it when he is up and going.

Really don't know where you heard any of that from BN. Vicious rumour..

Re: North Central Football League

How will the comp pan out this year?? I'm not a keen follower of the league but having seen the results each week I have made my predictions

Ladder Prediction:

Boort
Birchip
Donald
Charlton
Wedderburn
St Arnaud
Wyche

probably fairly accurate king. although saw boort and wedderburn on the weekend and not 100% sure boort are the best side in it.

Think he was originally a whycheyproof boy before trying his luch with Bendigo Pioneers. Went to tyntynder with relatives Trevor, Brad and Andy ryan and was part of the glory years at the dogs and I think he even coached them to a GF? Gee the dogs could use him as another taller type athletic player across half back this year.

you've got me there. i cant really come up with anything. i suppose after their top 8 or so they drop right away (but many NCFL teams do). the FF was disappointing on the weekend but he may have just had an off day, their on ballers worked well together and they've got probably 5-6 different options in there, and their key backs did the job. i guess if there had to be a main weakness it would be the flankers, wingers, pockets that may just drop away a bit. in saying that, they probably just had a down day on the weekend.

I saw them play once last year and noticed that (as you say like most clubs) their better players are very good and then the last 6-8 players let them down.

Who will win out of Birchip v Boort anyone and where will the game be won?

I think Boort will get up King. The game will be won from the middle (as most games are) and as stated before Boort have got a lot of options to rotate through the midfield. Their weakness is definitely not the flankers and pockets.. I think Boort have a very even side with magnificent players showing the rest the way..

Your obviously a Boort follower Ablett as I've seen you comment on them regularly! Give us an honest assessment of where they're weaknesses lie!

Seriously couldn't tell you.. Their top 20 is very good. Every player in their team would be playing seniors at any other club in the league. Boort's Forward Pockets are Rob Rutley (over 50 goals last year) and Matt Rice (who plays Ballarat Rebels) so i dont know why people think they lack depth.... They're top 5 players are just so good....

Well you sound like a Biased man as all teams have their weaknesses! Something obviously went wrong in the first round! I sincerely hope they go well this season so good luck to the Boort boys!

Re: North Central Football League

I agree Boorts bottom 5 players aren't super stars but name a team in the league that hasn't got 5 or so weaker players. however the Boort side who played wedderburn did have 5 or so regular senior players out on saturday. adrian parker, dale cameron, nath gooding, Matt Rice and luke cooney (not sure if he's gonna play this yr though) but the rest are all in Boorts best 18 so when these guys return you will see a better Boort side.

Re: North Central Football League

Predictions this weekend.

Wedderburn v Donald. The burn to get home in a close one.
Birchip v Boort. Another close one. Could be a shootout between the 2 leading goalkickers in the comp
St Arnaud v Charlton. Will be to good for StA. Still don't know where Charlton's goals will come from.

Interesting tips there ablett.

Well it sounds like the NCFL should hand over the Halfhide trophy to boort on saturday if they are that good:D

Boort would win, simply because birchip are relying on too few people, dont get me wrong, Boort are relying too much on Rutleys and Picconi's too, but Boort just have a more talented side, who continue to put 2 and 2 together and play a smart brand of footy.

IF birchip rely too much on cliff ryan up forward, as they have thus far... they will be beaten by sides they should be rolling.... (Donald, charlton, wedderburn and St Arnaud in particular) from here on, with the exception of wyche. i feel that they are TOO reliant on his goals, take away what he scored on the weekend (good quality defender can do it with little problems) then birchip would have lost, if im not mistaken.

theres something for u bulls fans to chew on :D
