Carlton have just sent their former No 6 pick off for a bag of chips, so no guarantees the additional picks we'd get in return will be worth it

and I'd take Hodge , Reiwoldt and Walsh in a heart beat.. especially Riewoldt
Chris Judd went at pick 3 in the Hodge year.
Bailey Smith went at pick 7 in the Walsh year.

Its stupid to value one individual this highly, especially when they haven't played a game yet.

GWS sent 2 number 1 picks (Patton & Scully) off for a bag of chips too

If Adelaide make the same offer as last time, but with maybe the Dumont compo back instead of North's future second, North should absolutely accept that.

Dumont isn’t getting compo. He didn’t get picked up as a FA. It’s trade, delisting or re-signing

Jake Carlisle or Max Gawn?

If you asked that question in 2013, every fan would laugh at you.

Fwiw I think Powell will be a good player. But when people are talking up how great deathriding threads on Melbourne are when every one has amounted to the Melbourne pick in question being lower than the pick it was traded for it's a bit of a joke.

Disagree on that, he has as much or more exposed form (at a reasonably high level) than pretty much any player in this draft.

Hypothetically ifSouth Adelaide were a feeder team and he was listed this season he’d have been promoted.

To my mind to make a decision like this, you need to back your scouting and recruiting staff. Sure it could backfire but I think there’s enough information to make the call. Not that it counts for much the general consensus is that there’s a pretty big gap between JHF, Daicos and Callaghan.

And again analysing the offer as per my previous post it isn’t the “monster” deal that had been claimed

If anything, having less exposed form would suggest there's more hidden value in the Victorian kids.

Every single club with sustained success in the last 15 years has come off the back of not one, but 10+ successful first round selections. While Carlton were salivating after trading the farm for Judd, Richmond were busy picking up Rance, Riewoldy, Cotchin and Martin. Richmond have three flags to show for it, Carlton have 2 finals wins, and last made the finals in 2013.

yep, not an exact science

But what if we ship the no 1 pick off and then they become the next Dustin Martin.
Would Richmond have swapped him for 2 first round picks ?
I wouldn't
I 100% get your point and can see why teams are gun shy around trading the pick

The Martin comparison is a funny one as he went at 3 behind Scully (who was supposedly a sure thing) and Trengove (who had great exposed form against men in the SANFL)

We got a second and third rounder on top of the first round pick. It was a great trade for North, but Pickett looks like a pretty special talent as well so everyone is happy. It didn't backfire at all.

North didn't just get Powell, we got a second and a third rounder and a death ride as well.

Oops. Too slow.

Not much point comparing a first year mid with a second year small forward at this stage. Come back in 5 years.

The Kanga's should just shut down talk of trading pick 1 and say they are 100% taking it to the draft..as good as he projects to be, I am worried my club will make an offer so big that if JHF didn't reach the heights, it could set our club back quite a bit in lost high end picks over the coming years. North would only burn 1 pick if he didn't work out - a loss for sure, but it is only 1 pick. The crows could mortgage this year and next years hands and god knows what else....Cmon North, just say its (pick 1) off the table

Agree, you can't be open to trading pick 1, and then reject the Adelaide deal which is probably as good as a club will ever offer for a kid who hasn't played a game.

People need to realise that proven stars are worth less than what was offered to North for pick 1, it's mind boggling.

feels like the gamble is too much for all concerned;

Roos trade #1 and JHF is the next Judd
Team mortgages their future to get him and he's next Boyd/McCartin - acknowledge they weren't talent busts, but still #1 picks that didn't get the value that pick should get you.

I'd rather we kept it open till the end of the trade period to see if anyone is going to offer up some quality young players. Forget this future pick nonsense, if you guys were serious you'd throw in Thilthorpe and McAsey to go with 4.

A midfielder who wouldn’t make our best 25 or a small forward who kicked 40 goals in his second season? Hmm…

You really cant compare the 2

Lets be honest.. its a lot easier shining as a forward in a side with a top midfield than as midfielder in the bottom side with most of its experienced midfield missing

who knows who will be better
