And I'll probably cop it with replies of "But what if it was your club on the chopping block"? Newsflash! My club isn't and will never be on the chopping block so the response means nothing to me.

Has your club paid the AFL back from the emergency bailout they gave when you went bankrupt a few years ago?

Like Hawthorn's handout from the Tasmanian government. Bet you that was a backrood deal between Kennett and his polly friends. Never mind the underfunded hospital system.

WTF are you talking about........a handout out .

You obviously don't know the diffrence between a hand out and sponsorship, you nerd.

Of course we have. I don't actually see the relevance as we got a one time helping hand whereas your mob need it every damn year.

"B-b-b-b-but that money is for the inequity of the draw!"

"Inequity of the draw" is the biggest line of bull out there. You get that money because you don't have enough supporters to generate an solvent income. Its basically a cop out.

"B-b-b-but we invented Friday night footy which is one of the most profitable games and now we play games on Sunday which is the least profitable!"

Well, you should have patented that shit or something. That way, the AFL would be paying you royalties for it. TV stations don't want to broadcast your games because no-one is interested watching you play. Live against the gate/delayed it doesn't matter.

If you had more supporters you'd get better time slots because the atmosphere plays a huge part in the desirability for your club to sell themselves to TV stations.

Same shit every year. And the gap between your club and the rest is only growing.

The best option I see for NM is to just go back to the VFL. You stay the same club. You stay in Melbourne. No one bitches about your crowds anymore. Its time for NM to wake up and smell the coffee. You're living way above your means. Champagne lifestyle on a cask wine budget.

Everyone is happy. Hey, its better than what Fitzroy got.

Oh, and Carlton never went bankrupt. Just had to take out a second mortgage on the house to see us through a rough patch. No biggie. Carlton is A-OK now, because thats what a successful enterprise does. They dust themselves off and fix the problem :):thumbsu:

Alot of people here calling for north to be culled and kicked out of the afl really are the sh!##est type of people and should think about how you would actually feel if it was your team that was going to be kicked out. Plus tell me why does my club playing in the AFL really affect you??

Kangaroos are not just going to grow 10-20k members overnight it takes time. Membership is up in the last 3 years and if we can continue that trend as well as tap into a 2nd market we are going to be fine. People should start worrying about their clubs and let us worry about our own.

It's well known Carlton haven't. For one they've never declared it in their financials as a loan, secondly Carlton being such a pig of a club would have let everyone know about it.

I have heard Carlton haven't paid back their debts as well. It's not like the AFL are going to foreclose on their assets or anything though is it..

So what you're saying is all you got is hearsay and conjecture that the debt hasn't been paid, based on your assumption as to how my club goes about its business?

If anything, my club has a proven track record of keeping their finances well hidden.

Like I said: prove we haven't :thumbsu:

What for?

Its not the answer. A few years ago a heap jumped on (after they rejected the GC i believe) and now people are being asked again?

Too many teams in VIC, how people can't see that is beyond me. North will never get themselves out of this mess..........their simply is no room for them in the current market to grow, the yearly handouts are what keeps them afloat.

Personally i would never buy a membership at an opposing team (thats just me) but good on the OP if he thinks it will help.

To me Money would be better off being donated to the RCH.

I'm not sure why the arguing over this, it's in the latest financial statements. We haven't paid the AFL loan back, and still have significant debts on top of that that aren't being cleared either.

I've posted my concern about this before and I seem to be one of the few Carlton supporters in that boat. The club's complete lack of effort in clearing the debt seems to indicate they don't regard debt reduction as any sort of pressing issue either.

I find the whole situation pretty poor to be honest, especially given the amount of interest payments involved.

The debt is clearly referred to in the 09 and 10 Carlton financials as "AFL Loan". Did you make that up for fun?

Probably similar to the backroom you used to get Hankook and Kaspersky.

The background deal for Hankook was a from a Melbourne supporter who has a long association with the club, not the AFL.

And the backroom door for Kaspersky, they introduced to the club through a member. I imagine the AFL ever had ever heard of them.

You don't get much right do you?

Well your so called club tried with Carltank to kill my club in the early ninties, so I don't give a rats arse for your club or Carltank. I just wish you would hurry up and die because you are becoming a joke.

Ha what an idiot. The point of the matter is that TAsmania is our sponsor just like hankook and kaspersky are yours.

You clearly don't understand the difference between a sponsor and AFL support do you?

I will definitley go to at least 5 or 6 North Melbourne games this year, as I live in Fitzroy and there is the 86 tram that goes directly to Docklands. If it's at the G I can walk there in 15 minutes.

I enjoy going to matches that don't involve Hawthorn anyway, as they are stress free.

I know not everyone agrees with me buying a membership for an opposition club, but I just really want Victorian football to flourish. I'm sure North Melbourne can turn their fortunes around off the field, as I have seen many clubs do it ( including my own, making a massive turnaround ).

I wouldn't buy a membership for them but they are my second team in a way. I almost always support North against other Vic teams unles I need them beaten to benefit Richmond.

It is easy to overstate their weakness. They had a home average attendance nering 28,000 in 2009 and that did fall below 24,000 last year but they hosted all 6 interstaters. Just to put that in perspective its higher than Juventus home crowds in italian soccer !!!!! With a fair crack of the fixturing whip and if they can be competitive staying out of the basement surely an average of 30,000 with similar membership numbers is not beyond them and if a team is not survivable on numbers like that we are in trouble.

I believe the AFL will give North 10 years to get their shit together, based on GWS agreement with Canberra.

North really need a small boutique stadium of around 25K (eGate) to prosper in Melbourne. If Geelong can succeed with a small ground, then i believe North can too.

OR

Play up to 5 games out of Melbourne whether it be Ballarat or returning to Canberra. I think North should never have left Canberra, but got sucked into a bit more money. The Canberra market should have been to North, what Tasmania is to Hawthorn, but i feel they were a bit short sighted.

I doubt they will get the 25k stadium now, considering AFL takes ownership of Etihad in about 15 years or something, so maybe Canberra is the go again?

Tasmania will not get a relocated club, they will get a freshy, so ACT is left.

The GWS/ACT agreement is a survivial package, so it gives the AFL 10 years to build up support in West Sydney. After that, they will want more presence in ACT, and i see the Kangaroos being apart of this.

Either way, North need to choose a path and run with it, or have it chosen for them.

problem with non-melbourne clubs playing NM is only about to get worse. doctoring of fixtures to the extent it does in AFL is among the worst if not the worst in the world. I guess that makes AFL "unique" in another way so must be good.

otherwise put the damn names on back of jumpers!
