Just as North planned when they didn't try to keep MacKay, Goldstein etc and kept drafting mids.

Our midfield keeps getting smashed.

We just don’t get enough from our senior players.

Start of first round priority pick incoming

Which they should’ve just given us last year
Fine and loss of draft picks for tanking is what was deserved. What would have helped is more salary cap space, access to some VFL/SANFL players and maybe tried to keep/draft some talls since they take the longest to develop.

North won't get another priority pick, they'll get a band 1 compensation pick when Zurhaar bails at the end of the season.

Holy s**t. I've never had to scroll that far down on the Squiggle before.
I'm surprised West Coast are still that low.

I said last year, I wanted the AFL to simply get rid of priority picks entirely (well, unless there is disaster that wipes out half the club's list or something). I still say that.
Just drop the cap floor, as a percentage of salary cap, so all shit teams should have the space top entice players in. Announce that now and start it in a couple of years, it can't be the following year because it could mess with list management a lot and sides deserve a chance to adjust.

What senior players? I don't know today's team but last week you had 5 guys 26+ and none of them have 200 games.

You just don't have any senior players with 10 years+ experience to guide the kids out there.

Simpkin and McDonald need a dropping this week. And Corr, **** it, I'd bring Pink back in ahead of him on form.
Sure, they aren't 200+ game players but they are supposed to be leaders and have been on the wrong side of tripe much of the time.

That's the biggest problem. You can't expect kids to carry you, they need experienced heads.

How you fill that other than targeting a bunch of almost cooked UFA I don't know.

Its a huge problem when the guys that need to be doing the on field leadership, providing the poise, the hardened bodies, etc, are lost. But its possibly not the biggest problem.
It seems pretty clear that the constant hammering have been dispiriting to the players almost as much as the fans. That spark and run that was turning up for a quarter or so in the first couple of rounds is gone. Players don't learn when they have lost hope of seeing anything come good. That may be one of the bigger problems.
I sort of get where the year started out, let the kids play and add the defensive discipline and transition when they have shown what they can do. But now they aren't playing with freedom anyway.
It might be time to set a rocket up the experienced guys under-performing, a couple of VFL weeks is the obvious way, and start to work on the defensive work of the midfield. Yes, the beltings will still happen - but they're happening anyway, but maybe starting on the next phase will limit the damage and can give something else to focus on for a while until the continued beltings knock away that enthusiasm as well.

I just don't see any chance of a way of not being shit for a lot of years. A little bit of raw talent does nothing if its not in a club where those with the talent can learn and mature. Spoons this year and next are certain, no matter what. A win this year or next is highly doubtful. Today was the only chance for the next two years of actually outplaying a team, and instead that happened.

north couldn’t draft another midfielder with their first pick could they?
With the very early picks, always take the best player available. If that's another midfielder, then another midfielder. We'll be bleeding players that want to play a final at some stage in their career anyway, so another mid won't hurt; or someone might become tradable that otherwise wouldn't be.
And for the next 5+ years we'll bleed players that want to play a final at some stage in their careers.

Can't give the idiot list managers they've got another set of priority picks when they simply refuse to address their weaknesses.

No matter how good Duursma might end up they should have taken Curtin and everyone knew that. Just as they should have taken McDonald before Phillips years earlier. The complete refusal to draft quality KPP is going to haunt them for probably another 4-5 years imo and by then half their mids are every chance to have deserted the joint.

If armchair experts genuinely have more of a clue than your professional list team then they need to be fired. Again.

No more priority picks unless they come with the condition that they're used only on KPP players, it's beyond a joke at this point.

Comben has talent, but not matching McKay and then ignoring Curtin with one of their two top picks was simply baffling.

Self inflicted pain.
Because they knew they'd get pick 3 for him.....they are idiots though, drafting midfielders and playing them at half back - Sheezel and McKercher

Why would you match and get less from essendon than pick 4? Stupidity. McKay wanted out.

Agree completely on Curtain.
