More like 1-2,000 probably

Clubs only get allocated 500 seats when they travel to Subiaco

The Lions don't even have 4,000 members in Melbourne

Actually, although I don't know just how many Victorian Lions members there are this year, the Bris Lions' Victorian membership has gone as high as 7000 or so before now, if memory serves- and that number was 6,700 last season, according to Wikipedia...

arguing about the draw/fixture/fairness side of things is a pathetic argument. in the AFL for about 4 years now i would say being "home" or "insterstate" only affects bracket teams heading for a 5-12 finish whereas teams heading for 1-4 will be favourites anywhere and teams heading for 13-16 will be underdogs anywhere. the AFL is no longer about making the top 8, it's about winning flags*. so if a game sold interstate costs you a win in a season where you finish 7, 8, 9 or 10 it shouldn't really matter.

*for example in the pre-tanking era it was common to see teams 13-15 with 7 or 8 wins still trying to the last to make the top 8. now once you're out of contention the cue goes in the rack.

I think there are about 5k North members in WA, not including their general supporters who aren't members.

That seems quite a few. After all the Hawks have only 7k in Tas despite all the games they sell their and their proclamation of "owning" the state.

I think it just shows how out of touch the North admin are with the real world.

1. To think the AFL will allow this. No chance in hell. They have stated many times games cant be sold to established markets. The reputational cost would be far to high to even contemplated it for all the reasons covered in the previous couple of pages.

2. To think the AFL would fixture this as a stand-alone marque game. Delusional. North arent a marque team. Perth isnt a marque venue (due to time zones), and if anything the AFL would be trying to hide this game.

3. To think that North are working "with" the AFL against Docklands. If the AFL wanted to hurt docklands, it would move Essendon out. Docklands would probably love to see the back of North.

Arocca said they have about 10% of their supporters from WA, not members.

Given they have around 200,000 supporters (from those surveys they run every year), that equates to 20,000 in WA.

How that would translate to a crowd is anyones guess. Optimistically 1000 or 2000 Id imagine.

Probably talking about 10% of membership

Hawthorn has a lot of support in WA as well but only about 3,000 members

Pretty sure they had 7,000 Vic members in 2004 but it has since dropped to 4,000

Keep in mind Brisbane only had 22,000 members nationally last year, they had around 31,000 in 2004

End of thread.

AFL have just knocked it on the head by reiterating that games can only sold to developing markets such as Tassie, Canberra and Darwin.

Whats next JB ?

I assume North, apart from continuing their long-term plan to improve membership numbers in Melbourne (and no-one could deny that North have increased their membership substantially in recent times), will continue working to build up their base in Ballarat, which is the right move for them as far as I can see.
