Discussion North Melbourne's home jumper going forward

Should be wearing the resurrected 90s Guernsey they pulled out for training the other day. One of the best in the league that.

They're wearing the 96 commemorative jumper this week

North are wearing it twice, though, right? This weekend against Hawthorn and then against Sydney later on?

It's funny how these once-off jumpers can actually be used more than intended secondary strips. Half the clubs in the competition repeat the Indigenous jumpers so they can have their own celebrations at home. Then there are things like this, and I'm sure there are other examples. When Geelong won't wear their clash this year, Sydney wear theirs about twice, and the Crows use their yellow one around the same time, we've sort of ended up with the Boomin Roo being a default and accidental away jumper.

We'll learn a lot more when they play Port at home in Round 17.

Before they've got the 96 jumper, bye and then an away game.

North will probably be in white shorts, unless they are arranging to wear their Royal kit

As an alt, it doesn't need to change. As a home jumper (won't happen but let's hypothesis) I'd say the blue panel on the bottom of the back would go.

But as an alternate you couldn't use it against Geelong. And they don't need three kits.

...And they don't need three kits.
No team needs three kits but it's cool to have an alt particularly if it's an incredible kit like this one. I reckon use it as an away where they don't clash and use the current clash against Geelong. Cool?

Solid white or blue? With modifications could it be used as a permanent, blue away/clash jumper?
I'd like to see it be used home and away. Solid blue back at home, white for a clash strip.

To me that jumper is North Melbourne.

That wouldn't be the worst solution. Although if they were going to have a guernsey just for Geelong matches, it'd probably be best to have it not feature any stripes at all. It's hard, because I really do like the blue variant of the home jumper. I would be totally happy with that being the new home jumper (meaning all blue at home), and a whiter variant of the bounding roo as the away/clash. That'd probably remove all difficulties, I just don't think it'd sit too well with North supporters who wouldn't want the historic 'premiership' guernsey lost completely.

If I can sum it up in one sentence it's that the bounding roo jumper deserves to be more than just a one-off.

Does anyone know the fan thoughts of the guernsey? NM_Mitchell ? Fazza2Jazza ? Greater Gattsby ?

This just screams North, doesn't it?

I kinda feel this quote probably only fits with people who grew up in the 90s though, those currently between the ages of around 25-35. When these people were kids, they saw North wearing this jumper a lot and associated it with them. I think there would be many people outside of this age range who would have very little association with this jumper, and it would not "scream North" to them at all.

Its a great jumper (I fall into the above mentioned age range) but I personally wouldn't like to see them adopt it as a permanent home at all. And as it probably wouldn't serve any purpose as a clash either, if it was to be adopted full time it would probably have to be in the "Hawthorn brown" role as an away guernsey only - which was its original purpose anyway.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that all teams should have 3 mandatory kits. Home, away and clash.

In terms of North, I honestly thought just have the regular home jumper with white shorts as the home kit, then the inverse as the clash. However, after seeing the bounding roo in action the other night, North should honestly look at keeping it as an away kit, then pushing the inverse back to the clash kit.

To be honest though, North are very privelaged to have worn some of the best kits in the AFL recently. Although little things like the cut-off middle stripe, the huge Mazda logo on the front and the low numbers on the back, overall it's still a very neat kit. Whether we keep the current layout of playing kits and wheel out the bounding roo as a heritage once or twice a year, or include it in the clubs 3 kits, I'm not fussy.

However, I am of the opinion that the bounding roo jumper is too good to not be worn a couple of times a year.

The bounding roo shouldn't leave anytime soon. I reckon that once we move on from this tilt we'll be looking at a bit of a rebrand, so we might get a different roo, somewhat similar to what appears on the Mazda signage at our games and that'll make its way onto something similar to the bounding roo.

Agree it would be good to see the bounding roo jumper in a few games each year (home or away) - minus the gold cuffs though.
How would you (& other NM fans) feel about changing the current striped clash for the traditional Blue with white V?
Alternatively, could the blue with white V be used as Home and the current Home as Away perhaps (with the kangaroo jumper thrown in for a few games - home or away)?

I'd be more than fine with the current clash being replaced with the blue with white V. However, in our current situation, the blue with white V will not be seen unless for heritage purposes (if at all). I'd be highly surprised if it was one of our kits, as stripes is our current identifier.

Home jumper should never change IMO.

The bounding roo has grown on me so much that I believe it should be our new away jumper, and the club hinted as much on Twitter on the weekend (not sure if that tweet has been shown on here. If not let me know and I'll dig it up). Really undecided on whether we should wear blue or white as home, as I love both equally. But I just thought of something which could work:

Home: Blue with white stripes (worn in home matches against Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle, Geelong, Gold Coast, GWS, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, West Coast & Western Bulldogs)

Away: Bounding roo (worn in away matches against Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle, Gold Coast, GWS, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, West Coast & Western Bulldogs)

Special: To preserve the significance of the white with blue stripes, this jumper worn in all games against Carlton, Collingwood & Essendon
