News North offer for Maynard

IMO he could very well retire this year, just depends on if the ones gunning for his spot can actually get up and supplant him. Poor Goater, man.
Let’s look at the Tale of the Tape
1:McDonald will play AFL this year and next.
2:Hardenham should be playing AFL but won’t be could be back in WA next year.
3:Fisher on big $$$$ and long contract can’t be played back maybe a bench player
4:Goater so unlucky with injuries hope tide turns for him in 2 half of 2025 as once his back will play VFL until his AFL fit.
5:Bergman will need to play at least 10 AFL games this year to retain his spot.
Now with Maynard he is a good player but to payout big $$$$ to get him and give Collingwood a leg up in the draft as their will get 1st round composition for him is very risky and take him will force out Hardenham,Goater and Bergman from our club.
As for the Diamond in the rough McDonald the only way he plays VFL will be if he gets injured and can’t get back in or made captain of the VFL team in 2027 with a BS off field role to keep him at the club that the only way it happens .
Mind you if he does like McMillan,Atley and others have done he will walk out once he retires and probably play local footy as it maybe embarrassing for him to play VFL.

Fair point. We haven't drafted many defenders. But even the Hawks got a bunch of players from other clubs in their defensive group and same with the Pies in their premiership team.
And the premiership teams of Melbourne and Hawthorn and actually when was the last good side that only had its own drafted and developed defenders? West Coast 2018?

The most recent Brisbane Lions GF team perhaps? Pretty rare though.
But they could've had Ah Chee playing down back (from GC Suns wasn't he?) or Doedee if not injured.

I forgot them - is that bad?

I know it's petty but it's Hardeman, not Hardenham.

It really pisses me off when broadcasters can't get the names of our players right, as often happens with Comben. I think it shows a lack of respect for the club.

Maynard is a better player than all of those you have listed, has leadership qualities, and has played in a premiership. If the Pies get a draft pick, so be it. We need to focus on making our list as good as we can. If Maynard is open to leaving it is likely the Pies will get that draft pick anywhere.

McDonald has no guarantee of playing AFL. If his form is not good enough, he plays VFL. Having said that, in my opinion he has played very well in both games this year.

Hardeman has looked promising at VFL level but isn't kicking the door down to be promoted yet.

Bergman likely needs a miracle to be on the list next year.

Don't know why you'd waste any effort responding.
