Panther F/F Keenan reported and sent off on Saturday but returned to the field later in the game (yellow card?). Now in the Tribunal listing for tomorrow night to defend alleged striking charge. My understanding is report/send off = red card and no return to field of play.

Apparently not - that used to be my understanding too. However, Riddle from Boro was yellow carded and reported for striking Shane Tennant (Boro V Mont) - then came back later in the game; only to get three weeks at Tribunal!

Seems strange to report and only give a yellow - but it's obviously within umpire discretion.

whittlesea vs northcote park was a very good game with whittlesea dominating the game but only winning by 9 points. many supporters were expecting a loss but credit to the young side for putting on yet another brave performance and coming away with the 4 points.

Keenan is an absoulte spud, thank god he came back on!!

Yeah I thought that was odd but maybe as the report came from Goal Umpire and I saw him go to field ump after the 1/4 time siren the field ump then issued card at 1/4 time. So maybe goal umps reports do not get a red card?

I have a problem with this system as if it was the last quarter and not first he would not have got a card until end of game (imagine 2 minutes into a last 1/4 of a final and reported player makes winning performance and is then carded?)

I reckon the goal umps, if they see an incident that they believe warrants a card (and remember they could and should see a lot of off-ball issues) then they should grab their flags and raise them above their heads in a cross until a ump with a whistle see them and they can converse and take immediate action, that's just a thought and off the top of my head but waiting the whole quarter is quite wrong. (might stop any off-ball incidents that can occur as well)

Remember I am an Eltham supporter and am not commenting on the alleged incident WRT Keenen (I did not see anything, seriously) just commentating on the process that we have and a possible flaw.

If the goal umpire makes a report, he should get the attention of the field umpire at the earliest opportunity - this might be at the next break in play, after a score, ball up etc, or at the quarter break.

I didn't see the incident, but maybe the goal ump didn't have an opportunity to alert the field ump and had to do it at quarter time?

Agree he prob did not have a chance what I am suggesting is they have a system where he can alert by standing with flags raised (and if the other goalie see he does the same) then a fieldy when he sees this stops play and gets a report.

Dunno if this drastic move is required but just a thought

My understanding is (and i'm relying on some credible people here as I was probably well on the way to incoherancy after having had a beer with The Boof), the goal umpire did report Keenan but as before mentioned could not notify Field umpires until quarter time break.

The Field Umpire I believe then notified the Eltham coaches at the huddle and showed a Red card. Haysey showed some diplomacy and gently enquired to the officials about What the F%&* is that for?

A bit of quick talking and some common sense prevailed and the Red was rescinded for a yella.

Looking at the best players, you;d think Eltham won the stoppages???, anyway 10 games left and only 3 wins for the Panther, how many games to make the 5?, 9, 10? will need a massive turn around to make it.

Eltham not the only team on 3 wins, one game out of the 5. I would hope it takes a minimum of 10 or 11, dont think average sides should be rewarded with being called a finals team

Yes but if no score has been scored then obviously they are not signalling that maybe hold both goal flags straight in the air and the behind flag out their mouth??? I dunno.

Yeah maybe they would not see it, I'm juts spitballing and was not saying its the solution (thats if one is needed) I am just saying that if an incident happens early in the 1/4 and they DO NOT get the umps attention the player could go on to either effect the result or commit more offences and possible injury.

Yeah thats a great point snakey, having KA as the dietician and callisthenics co-ordinator down Panther way seems not to be a great decision ....

Nah, whilst Keenen did not really fire on Sat he has had one or two of those weeks he also has had a few crackers and really played well, don't look like an athlete but hey....

Hey bob - i know they are not playing each other, please re-read bold section. This means i was looking forward to seeing both sets of results! If Mont lose it could be the end of their season and WPL have a big inclusion and a lot to play for. Both Bundoora & NP will be stinging after surprising losses last week (as proven by the tipping) and will not want to lose 2 in a row.
