No it shouldn't be. Yes there's outliers but overall - no. Should not be a G1 event.
Seriously think about. We need a total reset in Aust racing. There's only two states with elite racing in Aust....VIC and NSW. Anyway that's for a seperate discussion about "too many G1s in Australian racing"..

I think there are too many group 1s in NSW and Victoria as well as interstate G1s
I would cut the G1s from 76 to 50 then we have better quality horses winning G1 races

I agree with you on that. There's too many G1s in VIC and NSW but they are the only two states in Aust that should have G1 events. The rest - WA, SA, QLD....they are simply feeder competitions to the elite level states (VIC/NSW).
It's harsh but it's the reality.

Agree to disagree on only Melbourne and Sydney should have Group 1 races, Brisbane deserves to keep their Group 1 races, JJ Atkins, Stradbroke Handicap, Doomben Cup, Doomben 10000, Queensland Derby, Queensland Oaks, BTC Cup and Tatts Tiara.

Col Hodges is a good country caller
Stradbroke and Doomben 10000 the only races there that warrant being in the question for G1 status. The rubbish Oaks and Derbies of other states should be G2 at the absolute most
I'd agree if every caller was forced to wear a blindfold. Bloke should have retired from calling a long time ago - none of that is to take away from the enormous contribution he has made to country racing, but he is long past it as a caller.
Agreed, he has been a great contributor to country racing but is really, really struggling now. Wrong names, taking ages to get names out and almost at the point where a two horse race would stretch him.
You certainly would not want to be listening to him on a radio trying to follow a race, that's for sure!
