1 less reason for him to have been sacked IMO.

I disagree. As jackess has noted, while the police, in agreeing to mediation, have taken into account Fev's apology and the fact he's seeking help, it doesn't change his actions on the night in question and has no bearing on the club's grounds for termination.

"But the bloke just got pissed on NYE and got a bit rambunctious" I've heard some say. "Who amongst us can say we haven't done that, and what difference does it make to how he plays on the field?"

What they overlook is the guy was in rehab for a serious injury. Getting pissed, obnoxious and arrested is hardly beneficial to the healing process. One of his obligations as a player is to "Do everything reasonably necessary to obtain and maintain the best possible physical condition so as to render the most efficient service to the Club...".

In isolation his night out was not enough to get his contract terminated, but viewed as yet another in a series of persistent breaches of his obligations as a player, it was clearly the last straw for the club, as per their statement:

The grounds for termination were that Brendan had engaged in serious or wilful misconduct through persistent breaches of his obligations as an AFL player to the Club.

The Club had therefore lost confidence in his ability to meet his obligations as an AFL player due to these persistent breaches

My translation from legalese: He just keeps ****ing up, so we think he's going to continue to **** up.

This is all seriously backwards. If you want Gram, Bolton, Pratt and Hadley in the team, you have to think about who comes out of the team for them. That would in essence mean you would rather have Pratt and Bolton playing instead of Leppitsch and Mal Michael in the premiership years.

Gram was cut after a short time also, as he couldn't crack a game in such a solid defence. Remember, we lost players because our team was simply too good, in conjunction with salary cap issues caused by having so many champion players.

We de-listed Macdonald and as for Tom Logan and Hadley...just lol.
"Pratt and Bolton playing instead of Leppitsch and Mal Michael in the premiership years"
What? Look at our 2004 team against Port. In it were Copeland, Brad & Chris Scott (aged 28), Pike (32almost), Hadley (interesting?), Leppitsch (29), Joel Macdonald(??), Daryl White (31), and Pratt an emergency.
So Pratt was nearly good enough to be in a grand final team. Wouldn't the years since have been better with him (now up to 111 games) than, say Copeland, and bearing in mind the ages of some of our defenders of the time.
Same for Craig Bolton, now sitting on 199 games - where was the succession planning? No, not instead, but alongside.
Gram as soft? - well he's up to 119 games and 60 goals, so an error in judgement IMHO (interesting that in the wash-up with the trade for him we got pick 23 in 2003 = Matthew Moody, but a very poor draft crop that year)
Not a fan of Tom Logan? Well he played 18 games at Port last year, career total 72. I would have him beating Stiller for the contested ball 100 times out of 100. Actually Stiller has never been in a contested ball situation, so it's a bit like the joke about changing the toilet roll.
Finally Hadley - got a fair opinion of him at Carlton for getting the hardball, leaving Gibbs and Murphy (traitor) for the flashy stuff.(But Hadley did 'rat' on us after carrying him injured for so long).
As you say it's all backwards stuff, so I will hold my peace now.

I believe they said he had pain killers in his foot and couldnt actually feel the ball when hit his foot when he kicked. Also when he ran his foot had no feeling in it. Would feel quite strange to play like that.

That doesn't explain him giving Staker a gobful for putting a kick inside forward 50 into the small bit of space Fev had behind his man, with one coming in from the side. Or the daggers he cast at Banfield when he decided to take a shot on the run from 40 rather than dish off to a stationary Fev. Injured or not, his attitude was atrocious. Would've been better off dumping him & playing Retzlaff.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I agree with you Jim.
I agree with him as well

Im still angry over this - i think its a poor thing to show your players that this is what we do to them at their lowest ebb

As a memeber I think we should know why a player was sacked

as for the so called assistance - you dont help a person who is in rehab by shoving money down their throat...doesnt work that way

lastly and probally not on topic as such - after reading people getting stuck into Fev I doubt there is anyone in society that had a mental problem would want to seek help EVER seeing the ingorance and lack of understaning shown by some 'idiots'

Im not angry at the club.............i am damm right furious

I can see your point of view roostergal but I would be interested in your opinion if it came to be...

That it was the players who put forward the suggestion to the club
?

id be even more disapointed to be honest.

but what ive been made to believe it is the boards decision not the players

And I think it would be pissweak of a board to let players run a player out like that

In short I dont believe that noncence for a second

Roosersgal4eva, I'll "leave it" thanks on the basis that somewhere in your deconstruction of blame you seem to have missed the fundamental fact that Fev is ultimately responsible for Fev and like Aker he is now washed up because of his inability to accept responsibility for his behaviour. It is not Vossie fault, the Lions fault or anyone elses fault. Fev is the only person to blame for this ****ing mess and even Malthouse has managed to hit the nail on the head...Fev has to accept responsibility for his sacking. Fev has stuffed up at two clubs over a period of 10 plus years...how much longer does the world owe him a living. In my view, he doesn't deserve one cent and should be out on his arse...take it or leave it.

Now we can get on with life.

To truly move on I believe the club needs to first publicly detail the measures they've taken to ensure a mistake of this magnitude can never happen again.

Well we have much better people running the club now, and i highly doubt our current administration would have let a deal like that get done. It's only up from here guys.

Good luck to Fev, i hope he can get himself settled in life. He is a good guy at heart.

Of course this is said without knowing the full details of what has been going on, the actual figures, or the legal issues - but given those big caveats, I'm not exactly jumping for joy over the reported pay-out figure.

A week ago we offer him $1m, Fev claims $1.9m, we pay him $1.6m. Given there was a case to pay him nothing at all, it is staggering to me that we have just bumped up our offer so much and so quickly / easily. I know we wanted it settled, but for god's sake...

Now we only apparently save $300k for next year's salary cap.

But we don't have the pressure cooker bubbling away waiting to blow at any time. Thats a big heap of pluses on it's own.
