Most of Boronia’s U19s seem to be former Basin players. The Basin now advertising for U19s.

Oakleigh District announce an U19 coach - he’s the Noble Park U17 coach. No prizes for where the players will be coming from.

Should be good when Ashwood come in and announce they have Under 19s - they’ll probably all be Waverley Blues players.

EFNL needs to wake up, this isn’t sustainable.

The Basin are not too happy about it either. Boronia paying all new u19 player’s registration fees. Considering most are from other clubs that’s a lot of coin to pay out.

Certainly hasn't gone down well at The Basin. Losing a heap from their 17A's this year to Boronia and the fear is that it is starting to snowball.

Bad timing for the 2 clubs to be in opposite situations, one going up to div 1 and the other going down to div 3 especially when half of the parents who have boys playing 17A's still think their sons are going to play AFL.
 
To be fair to Boronia they are not the only club that offers free registration. Maybe the league should look into it. The wealthy clubs that can afford to to do it will just get stronger and the others that can’t will get left behind.

If you're leaving a club for free fees it probably says alot more about the play themselves.

Always amuses me too when the adverts go up in the league social accounts.

Great from the league, advertise to help poaching of other clubs kids.

Smart by Boronia, not sure where they are getting the money from with their new rooms coming. Oh wait, they somehow got $5million from the labor government, and$1.2 million from the council... and some other clubs rooms are far older and need of fixing up. A saying as old as man, it's not about what you know, it's who you know.

Correct. No coincidence a town of 21 got new rooms with the support of a local councillor

I am also an honorary volunteer, and Life Member of the Oakleigh District Club, and I know how challenging it is nowadays, to try and adequately manage a community-based sporting Club.

Electoral Re-Structure Update.
The electoral structure (Wards) of the Monash City Council have changed. With this unique election, Monash will now have 11 wards with a single Councillor representing each Ward.

There is a record 42 candidates standing.​

Support for Local Sporting Clubs.

There has never been such a diverse range of visions, in a City of Monash election. Most candidates of other interest groups, have declined to state their position on tangible support for LOCAL community-based sport, or openly stated, understandably, that they will endeavour to give priority, to their particular interests.

Therefore the outcome of the election, is an unknown situation. It exists, that the possibility that different Councillor’s will likely have different priorities, which COULD result in less focus and attention for LOCAL community-based sports Clubs. This could lead to detrimental outcomes ( eg: the redistribution of Revenue, that has historically been allocated to LOCAL community-based sport.) This could be telling, and could result in :-


· A reduction in Council spending for local sporting amenities, facilities, and services.

· A reduction in the availabilities of use of Council amenities, facilities, and services for local Sporting Clubs.

· The establishment of a ‘low priority’ attitude toward one of the critical facets of our local Monash community….our local Sporting Clubs.

· The degradation of a collaborative environment. ​

Effect of Representation.

The contention that decision-making in local Government is the sole responsibility of the employed Council Officers, with Councillors having little or no effect on decision-making, is false. The elected representatives have, and do, conscientiously voice the wishes of the people to the employed Council Officers…and specifically in this situation, local Sporting Clubs need reps, to pushback hard, during the next 4 years, on this significant and detrimental threat, of less representative support.

It would be tragic to have the historical level of support for our local Sporting Clubs, diminish, and a strong historical part of the Monash’s local-community fabric, eroded.​

Supportive Representation.

As honorary volunteers, we all know of the well documented and substantial social benefits, ( physical, mental, spiritual, constructiveness, relationship building, cause collaboration, people skilling, etc, etc ) that LOCAL sport has delivered to hundreds of thousands of local people, for more than a century. Over the next 4 years, to help our honorary volunteers, and the capabilities for Monash Council, it is more critical than ever, that local sporting groups have supportive representation.

This election is more than a once-in-4-years opportunity. If we lose supportive representation through the next 4 years, it is likely to be an very onerous task to re-build it.​

Through my personal enquiries, it has now become apparent which of the Candidates are supportive of LOCAL Monash sporting groups. To help your Local sporting Club to survive and grow, PLEASE support the following 2024 Candidates……

Was a star player, saw he kicked a few bags playing for whitefriars 3's this year.

Look at his play hq club history, he goes where the cash is. and takes off once it disappears. Will fit in well down there at moneybags South Belgrave lol. I'd expect him to try and nab a few friars boys for some matchies

Coached Whitefriars Ammos to a flag but also had a big role for many years in the Whitefriars School boys teams where he teaches. Was at Box Hill by the looks of it. He was certainly targeted by plenty of clubs over the years to coach.

I get it, but i don't think it impacts his coaching ability. I know some boys who have been coached by him who really regard him highly. He'd be over 40 now I'm pretty sure.

They have both signed at Frankston Bombers but i doubt any club would stand in their way if they wanted to follow their dad if hes coaching.

EFNL 2024: Kristan Height appointed South Belgrave coach for 2025 and 2026

The Eastern Division 1 club has turned up an ace in its late hunt for a senior coach, unveiling a flag-winning mentor and state league assistant. Latest here.

Kristan Height’s phone first lit up a year or so ago.
Twelve months on, and he’s been unveiled as South Belgrave’s next senior coach.
He replaces outgoing mentor Heath Black, whose shock resignation in late September came after just one year in charge.
Fresh out of the VFL system where he served as midfield coach at the Box Hill Hawks, Height said the Eastern league Division 1 power came calling at the end of 2023.
The initial contact piqued his interest in the club.
“They reached out last year to be honest, and I probably wasn’t ready to leave the VFL at that stage,” Height said.
“Because they reached out over a year ago, I was keeping closer tabs on South Belgrave as a footy club as potentially somewhere to go later.
“When the job opened up again, they made another call and this time around, the fourth year at VFL level, I thought maybe it’s a chance to go back to local level and see what we can do.”
Height, who won a best and fairest at top-division club Blackburn in 2008, returns to the Eastern league after more than a decade away.
The Echuca product had returned to country footy before a premiership-winning stint as playing-coach with VAFA outfit Whitefriars from 2018-2021, lifting the Division 2 cup in an unbeaten campaign in ’19.
The former VFL Hawk also took home two club champion awards in his Whitefriars stay as well as the competition best and fairest in the premiership year.
Whitefriars sat equal-first on the ladder when the 2021 season was wiped due to Covid, with opportunity knocking for Height at state level soon after.
Height said the abrupt ending had left him hungry for more success as a local coach.
“I think over the four seasons that I was coaching (Whitefriars), we only lost maybe four or five games,” he said.
“We also won a couple of reserves premierships … unfortunately, Covid did hit a couple of seasons there where we were right in the mix to go again.
“The opportunity arose at Box Hill arose after that … unfortunately I had to step away from a bit of unfinished business at Whitefriars, but you’ve got to take those opportunities when they come.”
South Belgrave’s shock grand final loss in 2023 was followed by a straight-sets exit from the finals this year after finishing second at the end of the home-and-away season.
Height said most of the list had been re-signed for 2025 and was confident the Saints could make the most of a premiership window.
“Obviously their playing list is in a position to go for it – their reserves won it this year which shows great depth, they’ve got some good under-19s coming through and they’ve got a good connection with the Lysterfield (junior) football club,” he said.
“Their list I know are really keen to have a real crack at it again after falling short the last couple of seasons.
“The club on and off the field looks really well structured and managed from the president down, and you can’t win premierships if the whole club’s not buying in.
“I’m really excited to be involved and hopefully pass on a bit of wisdom and education and get the club to what they’re striving to get to.”

Yep, under the impression the whitefriars high school boys coaching was in return for his services as the old boys coaching/playing, cheeky way around VAFA's rule of non payment of players even if they are playing coaches
 
There’s been a couple of articles that have had a go at listing Cassett’s clubs.

It’s pretty hard as the man himself says he couldn’t list them all!

You can probably find reference to 20-odd online, he would say it’s probably double that, he played from 17yo to his mid 40s and that included heaps of one-off appearances and mid-season moves, so probably not short of the mark. He never stayed anywhere for more than 2-3 years.

I think I remember Ian Atkinson was another who played for 10+ clubs, another whose career was probably closing in on 3 decades. He played at Dandenong, Rowville, Forest Hill, Sandown and many, many more.
