So lets put the entire news article here.

What we know: While this cluster began as a workplace outbreak, on 25 June it was reclassified by the health department as a family cluster in the suburb of North Melbourne.

The first person diagnosed was a staff member at the H&M store who also attend the Black Lives Matter protest on 6 June, but was not considered to be infectious at the time. Two days later a second staff member contracted the virus. They also attended the protest but are believed to have been infected at the store.

By 26 June the cluster had grown to 15, the majority household contacts of a staff member.

While some reports have suggested that the “North Melbourne” in the cluster’s name refers to the region of “northern Melbourne”, the DHHS has twice confirmed to Guardian Australia that the name does, in fact, refers to the suburb of “North Melbourne”. However, this does not necessarily mean that all, or even most, associated clusters are actually located within that suburb.

On 25 June a new “Brimbank Family” cluster was declared, which grew to six cases over the next few days. On 29 June the health minister said a link had been found between this cluster and the North Melbourne outbreak.

I says everything in the first paragraph.

Yes, the first person infected aka the person who brought the virus to the workplace was a BLM protestor...That person picked it up through unknown source in the same period they attended the protest...

It doesn't say anywhere in the article that the first person infected got it at the BLM rally, only that they attended. So authorities don't know where the first person got it from, but you do.

Ground availability could be an issue with some cricket leagues already planning for later start, later finish. With junior seasons going ahead and finishing a lot later than usual, cricket can’t start on time.
That's true. The dates are set out for resumption of cricket in the attached Cricket Victoria and Football Victoria document for anyone who is interested. The cut off dates for junior football are given in the document which are pretty close to the usual start time for cricket. Lots of variations possible depending on type of pitch. Cricket will start a lot earlier with the cancellation of senior football. Interestingly according to the agreement, if the EFNL competition had gone ahead there wouldn't have been finals at Bayswater unless they were completed by Sept 27th. Or any other finals ground that has a Turf pitch, which would have ruled out quite a few of the usual finals grounds.
I was talking mainly about whether covid problems would further delay any start to cricket.

The final date is what’s usually round 2 of cricket season, so allowing for a couple of weeks for handover, ground preparation etc.

I know my league has set down a start date in November, exactly one month later than usual whilst still playing the same length season. Being a turf comp, those grounds won’t be available for football until later than usual so they won’t be able to start earlier.

I’d hope there’d be no delays for cricket starting due to any Covid restrictions. Training will be much more difficult but playing wise there won’t be any issues. None of the problems faced by football are relevant to cricket I.e change rooms, crowds, social rooms etc.

Most cricket games are played without any of that!

What do you think will happen about the polishing the ball problem?

What do you think will happen about the polishing the ball problem?

1 Polishing the ball will not be allowed.
2 Rooms are not required as a lot of the lower grades do not have rooms any way.
3 Drink bottles, bring your own including eats for the tea break. One of my pet hates in cricket is the guys sharing their drink cups at the break any way.
4 Functions in club rooms could be a issue plus sponsors under financial problems if effected by covid restrictions.
5 My understanding in the EFNL is the juniors will go no later then the 20th September.

Cricket in the UK is starting in the next week and current restrictions in Victoria should not effect cricket, will 1st class cricket though with large crowds attending.BUT if go back to a lock down like we see in those hot spots now there will be no cricket in those areas.

1 to 4 is what I think it will be No.5 I have just checked out the dates and as for other junior competitions I am not sure but I think common sense would be to finish all junior footy by the 20th September, give the cricket guys a full season as we do not want them playing into April and effecting the 2021 footy season.

I think that polishing the ball will still be allowed, however, you can't use saliva apparently. Sweat is allowed but from experience isn't very effective. There have been some other suggestions.
Might be the season of the slow bowler.

As a follow up to that post on 5th June the YJFL planned to start next Sunday 12th July with finals 4/11 October,of cause a lot has happened since that date. And with the YJFC some of their junior sides play close to Melbourne like Fitzroy,Ricmond etc which at the moment are not in the hot spots but to close for my liking.Lets hope the kids can get on the park and any restrictions which I am sure there will be adults do the right thing.

Will be interesting to see what develops. Obviously some real problems in parts of melbourne. Many areas now with no junior sport either. Heard from a very good source if things don’t stabilise in the next week the Government will tighten restrictions again. Looks like a long road ahead after so much promise. Things can turn very quickly as many of the experts have said. We are certainly better off in this part of the world than other countries who are in all sorts of trouble.....

So what junior football leagues have pulled the pin? I say common says junior footy ends at 20th September. We start cricket 1st Saturday in October and finish as normal. We do not want a cricket season starting late, extending into April and impacting on a 2021 football season.

Son playing his 1st game of soccer, next week & it’s still full steam ahead. Can’t watch which is disappointing but expected. Drop off, go & park in a different car park, wait until you get a team app message when it’s done. Training has been the same, very well organised.

Fixture out mid week. Do wonder if some of the hotspots are causing some issues. With junior soccer you can travel further than football.

Bob I thought with junior football 1 parent can go to a game, has to remain in his car.If what I say is true how are junior clubs going to enforce that one which I think they can and the boys/girls do not need change rooms any way and not even sure clubs can run a canteen but at least the kids are out there.Just shows correct call in calling off senior footy.

As a follow up to a couple of my previous posts the YJFC have just told me they plan to play their junior finals in the 1st 2 weeks in October which might prevent cricket starting in some areas as normal.

I’ve always had a lot of success with sweat, might be the sunscreen mixed in with it but I’ve never struggled to swing the ball!!!

Yes, you can polish the ball with sweat to get some early swing but it doesn't bind the torn parts of the ball anywhere near as well, preventing further damage and tearing of the surface. A bit of saliva is far more effective than sweat. If you are having success with sweat and sunscreen you'll have even more with saliva applied to the ball.

Is this an internal soccer club protocol? As my son's team also starts Saturday (not NPL). Have not been advised that parent's can't watch etc. Parent's have also been on the ground watching training

The TM has even sent out a parent roster for oranges & snakes which astounds me as all of the above is prohibited for junior footy

May well be unique to the club. First season of involvement, so have just followed instructions. Certainly not able to watch training since recommencement. The instructions for game day are the same as per training. Fine for home games. What about opposition parents on game day? What happens when playing away?

Im coaching a junior girls AFL side & we have been following strong protocols but not as rigid as the soccer ones. Will let you know when draw, etc comes out.

Just doing what I have to do so my son can play. He loves the game & is dying to play at competition level.

I've found the complete opposite. Footy protocols strict - soccer protocols are non existent

I'm coaching a junior footy side and club has introduced a policy if the ball goes out of bounds and a parent throws the ball to the boundayy ump or a kid, the game stops and the ball has to be wiped with sanitizer wipes. Crazy stuff
