There are also badminton and table tennis venues as well. There is a $12M upgrade being planned for there.
I wouldn't overlook East Burwood either, with 2 footy grounds, Basketball Stadium, Athletics track, Velodrome and the tennis courts.
GMac will be on here soon about the footy ground, Gymnastics Stadium, tennis courts and the pigeon club at Mitcham, but I'm not having it until he comes through with his promise to get Netball Courts installed.

had forgotten about EB. Been 14 years since I been there!
Chirnside Park is another one that potentially has a space for more facilities

& Mitcham never had a burnt out vehicle containing a body, but I’m sure G will find something to outdo the Rams base.
I did see a stolen vehicle there during the finals, but no body. No doubt he's going to go on about the ground surface, he's just so pernickety on the grass preparation. I couldn't believe it when I saw him there a while ago, so I took a picture.

Where are the netball courts at East Burwood,

Lets not get confused here. The issue is your promise to have netball courts installed.
View attachment 913428

If you are trying to compare East Burwood to Mitcham and council tried to do up grades on both grounds surely East Burwood would be the premier facilities as they have 2 grounds,Mitcham have 1 gound for starters.Mitcham have done the hard work over the last 10 years which I am proud of our guys for their efforts.

No comparisons, just inquiring about the progress on the netball courts.
What netball courts or are you talking about ,are you confused with the new cricket nets which are due to start August and ready for the start of the season perhaps. As far as I know there are no plans for netball courts at WP. PS Cliff are you telling us all that the MCG of the East,Walker Park are getting new netball courts and I do not know about it :)

Haha.
Cliff, I have heard a rumour the nunawading basketball stadium may be looking to expand - potentially at the expense of the old front ground at eb- have you heard anything on this? Does the front ground get used at all anymore? Seems in ripping nick these days!

Sadly the front ground at East Burwood is not used that much these days in the footy season especially with junior football but is used more during the cricket season especially senior wise.Pre season footy wise I have seen plenty of soccer training out there and if it is not lost to basketball perhaps soccer could move in.

Won't be going onto the ground if it does expand, more than likely into the car park area. Not enough grounds in Whitehorse as it is, not likely that it will disappear. Juniors would be using it regularly if they were playing. If we could get rid of the Pipe Band from the old rooms there would probably be a women's team playing out of there. The council needs to find another home for the Pipe Band. From what I've heard any proposed expansion for Basketball will require the the Vikings and the MEBA to come to agreement, something they have struggled with in the past. Basketball expansion has been proposed at 3 different sites, with a court already being added at the new Nunawading Community Centre. Any other proposed projects may be some time away due to current events. One other option is that the council won't renew the lease with the Whitehorse club. The building is already there and would be a cost effective option and right next the the current Basketball Stadium. They could even join them together.

One of the reasons I think Silver Grove the home of Nunawading F C 50 years should be converted back to a junior sports ground or girls football ground or even just open space. My biggest fear when all the tenants move out from there and go to the new Nunawading Community Centre is this site will be sold off to high rise development.

You know GMac I suggested that to the council through one of their surveys as a way that the council could buy the old Nunawading Primary School site and develop it for no cost. If the council sold the land next to the railway station they would make a large profit and could use that to pay for everything. Two weeks later the council announced that's what they were going to do. That is certainly going to happen. I was really disappointed the way Mayor Philip Daw announced the council decision at the time after all his stalling and opposition for 3 long years.

So are you saying the site should be sold off to developers:( Just look at Box Hill and all this over development in Whitehorse now,the bigger the population in Whitehorse the more open space and sporting facilities we need.Pleasing to see Nunawading Community site nearly finished and we saved the school building and its history and look forward to the opening of the new site.

That's how they've funded the project. Without selling the site, the Nunawading Community Centre wouldn't have happened.
As for the opening we should send the new Mayor an email requesting an invitation to the opening, without our group working for 3 years to convince the council to buy the site, it wouldn't have happened. We would have had Philip Daw's 188 townhouses built on it. When he first told the meeting that Council wasn't going to buy the land because 188 Townhouses were going to be built there I was shocked, but not as much as he was when someone asked him how he knew that exactly 188 Townhouse were going to be built there. He never said anything to the group from then until the end of the meeting.
It may be that the land where the old Box Hill brickwork quarry was will eventually become a sporting complex because it has been ruled as unfit for building homes on.

Cheers cliff - what you are saying makes perfect sense. Wondered if the ground and rooms were being used! Philip daw is a Tory flog...

they could have picked some better examples
Example 1 - lost $200(!)
Example 2 - gets backing from UoM already to help cover expenses

Cliff do not believe every thing you read in the papers.Local footy will be back we hope ASAP bigger stronger then ever.Have heard the YJFL still have not called off this season which surprises me.Starting to wonder now whether local cricket will start on time,it is a worry.

It isn't just about local footy GMac, it's all the sports clubs from around the area. Councils have been really good about rents, but there are many other worries, especially for small clubs. There are 186 Sport Clubs list on the Whitehorse Council's website. From really big to very small. If you are dealing with the council you may find it a lot easier than a club renting premises from a private concern. The other matter is getting players to return to the club. For some people it may be that they have found another interest or lost interest. Bowls clubs may end up with less numbers due to people aging or perhaps even passing away. For a lot of clubs, where older members may choose not to participate or even spectate until a vaccine is developed. Some clubs have been lucky enough to get the $1,000 on offer. Good for a small club to help cover expenses but if you are bigger it doesn't cover much. It wouldn't even cover the rates of the local bowling club and they may still have to pay for the upkeep of the greens, even if no one is playing. Hard times ahead for many clubs.

Media and the Herald Sun have supported this article in the Age so a few personal opinions but still important we be positive looking ahead instead of this negative reports.

1 Bowling Clubs, had a beer at the Mitcham bowling club 1 day before this latest lock down and we discussed this one.Basically their only expenses at this stage was the green keepers.

2 Footy/cricket clubs not sure of any expenses as ground/room rentals and EFNL fees I am pretty sure are not there.Same with soccer clubs.PS Clubs renting from a private concerns is a worry.

3 A positive note and as you might have noticed "i am trying to be positive looking ahead"If we had of played a half season EDNFL 2020 we would have had less clubs around 2021.

4 The big loosers out of all this are our councils who still have to maintain our grounds but no income coming from clubs involved in winter sports.

5 The people that run our competitions another looser,no income coming in from our clubs.

6 People finding a new interest ,how can you find a new interest in lockdown or even a new girlfriend.A valid point loosing interest.

If you think I am going to loose interest old timer I am not so perhaps get on the positive band wagon and lets talk that way even if we do not get a vaccine as I think the only thing we will agree on this stage is we need our local sport for the good of our community even still with covid around and we have to work around it season 2021 or looks like even the approaching cricket seaso

I know of 2 people so far who won't participate until a vaccine is found or it disappears, as their wives have compromised health. Though they would like to continue, if they get it then it's a death sentence for their wives. There would be plenty of people in the same situation with their wives, parents, relatives or kids particularly vulnerable.

You are speaking as a older person which we are both are and important to remember most of the deaths we have in Australia are people over 60 years of age.

Time for sporting clubs especially footy to make a stand and if covid still around 2021 and ban all people over 60 years of age from their clubs.Clubs will take a big hit perhaps with a ban like that with their volunteers but now is the time for the young blokes to fill their spots as the young blokes are not dying of this virus currently of what I know about.PS If these restrictions still around 2021 especially for our sponsors afraid season 2021 could be in jeopardy as well, difficult times ahead.

Yes, I think that for many clubs the invasion of paid players has impacted on the number and age of volunteers at clubs, leaving clubs relying on many older volunteers. If they can't contribute next year it might encourage a few younger volunteers to put their hand up. One thing I have learnt over the years is; the more you do, the more other people let you do. The best thing you can learn as a volunteer is to be able to say no sometimes.
