What the hell is going on at South Croydon? Their season finished in August, and they’re calling for senior coach applicants in November?

That sets off huge alarm bells

I posted about the problems clubs were having attracting suitable coaching candidates. Its not just the lower divisions facing that problem.

Doesn't seem to have impacted their recruiting however. Swag of quality players coming through the door.

Heard 3rd hand that were happy with someone who since was able to get a VFL role. Back to the drawing board.
Pinch of salt - only passing on what was I told & I know the obvious question being well appoint whoever was 2nd etc.

Just looking at social media, appears their coach actually informed them he’d be stepping down in July. To be calling for applications in November would mean something has gone very wrong.

Norwood is the club I would be worried about most. They have lost a lot of talent already and more to come I believe.

Looks like they’re refocusing on their U19s and youth.

Clubs ignore this at their absolute peril

Couldn’t understand how they were ever without U19s when they had a namesake high school right over the road.

Kids don't wanna commit to footy at 10am on a saturday morning anymore unfortunately. Another club i know (Aquinas old collegians) have a school with huge numbers and couldn't get one up this year

Its not just 10am, depending on your opposition and whether they have a womens team, many 19s games this year started at 8:30am. We had a few foggy early mornings at Coldy this year.

If they're like my kids were, its mighty hard getting up that early when you don't leave to go out until 11 or 12 on the Friday night.

Brendan Allen former Blackburn coach named last night as new South Croydon coach.

I remember playing there for warrandyte in about 2008/2009, morning was very brisk

So who are the big ins and outs this off season. From my observations it doesn’t seem to be as much movement compared to previous seasons. Norwood has lost quite a bit of top end talent. Sth Belgrave picked up more quality Luke Dunston etc. The Basin looked to have picked up a lot of older players Joel Perry being one to help out their youth coming through but have lost there captain Shane Davidson and young gun Christian Poe who is off to baysie. Noble Park lost Jackson Casey back to Bonbeach and Ryan Morrison to Dromana. Any others ?

Blackburn have picked up toby wooller (ex afl) and also have jake hammond returning. Chrinside park and coldstream also have a lot of new blokes in the lower divs

Norwood in all sorts of trouble for next year with the amount of talent they have lost. Will be doing well to avoid relegation, it will either be Norwood or Berwick who goes down.

Looks like the end of an era there with the coach and many players leaving

Hopefully for them they have some core of homegrown players. Most premier clubs need to bring in external recruits but they will leave as quickly as they arrive if they have no other connection with the place.

No Under 19s is a very bad sign for Norwood. Looks like they're trying to change that for 2024 however.

Mark Etherington's cash supply must be drying up. Has done well as Norwood's benefactor for a long time though.
