Anyone have any ideas who will go number one, in next years draft? Im very interested to know who you guys think?
That you Kevin? I knew there was a reason you were going after Campo!

Bryce Gibbs (father-son to Adelaide)
I thought he was ineligible as a F-S pick?

Scott Gumbleton (a CHF) would probably be number 1 at this stage. Lachlan Hansen, Jack Riewoldt and Mitchell Thorp should be in the top-10 mix as potential CHFs.
Do any of these guys have the potential to be a full back or CHB?

Lachlan Hansen has probably played more in the backline than any of the others, and I would dare say at this point that that will be his best AFL position.

If you can play CHF you should normally be able to play CHB. So all of them would be possible.
79Vintage has Thorp pegged as a fullback in his 2006 team and that has been Carlton's biggest weakness since SOS.Carlton need everything but KPP are a bigger priority than a midfielder or forward like Gibbs.

nah it wont - why compromise the system to suit just one team - tough luck guys - seriously - i guess youll just have to wait for another one - anyhow im sure that Gibbs will have the go home factor after a few years

Victorian clubs - 100 games.

Freo and WCE - 150 games.

Crows - 200 games.

That's why it should be changed, it's simply not fair.

That would be because you have more teams to choose from. Victorian clubs are picking from players that played for them in the VFL competition, which became the AFL.

On the other hand, WA and SA teams are picking from teams that played in different competitions, where if it was only 100 games to qualify, there would be a ridiculous amount of people going father-son.

The bar was set to make the number of players that are eligible for F/S picks roughly equal.

I would say that the amount of players that played 100 games in the VFL/AFL is about equal to the amount of players that played 200 in the SANFL. That is why the system is as it is.

Adelaide have 4 clubs to choose from. It's fair to say the amount of people who play 200 games is FAR less than those that play 100. So it still isn't fair.

PAFC were not eligible to get Ebert under the F-S rule but the AFL didn't pick them up on it, the whole thing is inconsistent and rubbish.

And yes Gibbs will want to come home after 2 years but then we are going to have to give up more than we could have had him for.

It was much easier to play 200 SANFL games than it was to play 100 VFL games. Interstate clubs have much easier qualification rules than Melbourne clubs.

Ohhhh no you just didn't.

OKay lucky I have to go to work now because that post is simply trash.

The two competitions were very comparable! And today the SANFL>>>>VFL

All the ex-victorian AFL club players come to the SANFL to play.

Maybe today but we're talking the competitions status ten or twenty years ago. Only someone in the advanced stages of a really bad pyschiatric illness would claim the SANFL was anywhere near the quality of VFL footy pre-AFL.

Here's a comparison between the Crows and the Dogs.

Bugger all difference.

Again, going by my 1990 Yearbook:

Kym Hodgeman
David Marshall
Chris Mcdermott
John Seebohm
Phil Brooksby
Shane Butler
Michael Aish
Keith Thomas
Tom Warhurst
Greg Whittlesea

Possibles depending on games at two different eligible clubs count:
John Paynter
Neil Craig
Paul Weston

Most of those guys started from 1976-1981 and theres a fair few players there.

The 200 club of guys that retired before 1990:
Peter Carey 448 games 71-88
Rick Davies 317 games 70-86
John Macfarlane 306 games 71-87
Mick Taylor 289 games 72-87
Phil Gallagher 292 games 73-86
Michael Graham 282 games 71-85
N Button 283 games 71-85
Roger Woodcock 267 games 69-81
N Caldwell 265 games 70-81
C Casey 251 games 71-83
S Copping 246 games 74-86
T Sims 250 games 72-83
B Howard 221 games 73-85
J Schneebichler 234 games 75-89
R Hateley 216 games 73-84
G Mousley 212 games 70-82
R Klomp 205 games 73-86
J Michalanney 211 games 74-86

Theres a couple of possibles in that lot as well depending on just how many games they played in the eligible period:
R Oatey 232 games 61-78
D Phillis 280 games 66-81
W Phillis 223 games 67-79
R Voigt 258 games 67-79
A Burgan 248 games 67-79
P Marker 239 games 67-78
P Nelson 244 games 66-77
M Greenslade 215 games 66-81

So I reckon thats probably the exact number of players you guys have available. 29 definate players plus 8 possibles and 3 players if joint clubs count. There could be some I missed as well.

For the sake of comparison, the Bulldogs have 29 eligible players from that era - not counting those that have played 100 since 1990.

Ben Reid is captain of Vic schoolboys whose father Bruce played 88 with the Dogs.

You're not the only ones to miss out.

Purely for source (I know you don't care who they are) and 6 are eligible for other teams as well.

1. Doug Hawkins
2. Gary Dempsey
3. Brian Royal
4. Steve Macpherson
5. Steven Power
6. Bernie Quinlan
7. Gary Merrington
8. Ian Dunstan
9. Peter Welsh
10. Peter Foster 1984-93 163 games
11. Ricky Kennedy
12. Terry Wheeler
13. Jim Edmond
14. Simon Beasley
15. Ted Whitten Jnr
16. Kelvin Templeton
17. Neil Cordy
18. Geoff Jennings
19. Alan Stoneham
20. Michael Egan
21. Gordon Casey
22. Brian Cordy
23. Ross Abbey
24. Andrew Purser
25. Ian Hampshire
26. Ian Morrison
27. Tony McGuinness
28. Greg Eppulstun 1986-92 102 games
29. Dennis Collins
30. Simon Atkins
