looks like a few winners can be found in the afternoon, but one long shot set your money on fire chance could be terramater, RAND R8.

it got completely wrecked last time out but has good history in all important metrics. if they have learnt anything and if the horses has improved at all, it could snag a place in this even race.

15.0 place, $5 could become $75 and you could almost buy a packet of tim tams

nothing of note today, but having a look at NZ for the first time. seems to be a bunch of horses used to wet tracks finally finding good tracks vs plodders who never do well on good.

One right down the bottom at 100-1 Ill be throwing into exotics for the Derby is Cecchetti. Just looks a stayer to me that will run the trip right out being by Fiorente and out of a Savabeel mare. Last couple runs have both had merit despite never being able to build momentum through runners and getting knocked down. There are a lot that will be gasping for air up the straight and dropping out and I dont think he will be one of them. Class the obvious issue

couple of thoughts for saturday:
how do you all handle horses backing up the next week? we have a few going around again who won last week. on paper they look good, but what about the intangibles? did they peak last week? throw at the stumps this week?

also, how do you handle rando distances 2/3 of the field has never competed in?

cheers

1.
Watch previous run.
Was the horse strong through the line, was it held up and pretty much cruised.
It works well for some horses and doesn’t for others.
Trust the better stables.

Look at Via. She sprinted three laps of the valley and early noise was she would be stratched, 5 days later broke track record.

2. Again , watch previous runs.
Were horses strong through the line, are they looking for further.
And breeding

cheers for that. i just get the sense that this week is going to be a nightmare after the relatively easy week last week.

one im looking at is el costello
imo easily the best horse in the race but backing up from last week. if i take EC out imo the field is trash and wouldnt bet on it.
EC has 1 run <7 days back up but it was on heavy and it likes a good track, so not much help there.

the next best imo is keeneland, but its preferred jockey j allen is riding another horse for some reason.

this race is a mess

One week back up is never really a problem and to be honest if the decision is made during that week then it's usually a positive as it means they are in very good nick at home most of the time

Would be riding another horse because he has been dumped from Keeneland in favour of a much better jockey
