Pretty Sure Smith is injured
Downie is 50/50 once Mitchell O'Meara is back with Phillips pushing out to a wing
Overall i have a similar Midfield
Phillips Merrett Taranto Walsh Sier Clark (Geelong) then rookies

Have Phillips and Clark in forward and defense, have just never had a structure like such at the start of any season... never has my M4 been under 450k
Also unless Ely Smith was injured in the reserves game? Pretty sure he was listed as an emergency / playing ressies yesterday

One long match after shorter games, shorter break from last year etc - isn't the ideal preparation....

Doesn't bode well at all for once the real thing actually starts. Preseason training is one thing. But its a big step up to actual games.

I took this mantra into last year and it burnt me. Bloody Adams...
I think theres a difference between injury prone players and players who are legitimately injured. Taylor had a fine pre season last year didn't he?
Few thoughts on certain players, interesting to get some feedback.
Briggs - How many games will he get (if any) when Flynn returns?.
Will Powell - Looked amazing last night and was GC's preferred option to man space behind the play and his kicking was first rate, I think he could avg 85+
Markov - Was more the run and carry defender compared to Powell, could avg 80+
Witho - As a longtime WC supporter, WC defenders score well but never as out and out premiums. At his price that is where he needs to score and I just can't see it.
Cripps, Rowell, Seir, Green and any other inside only players - Less kicking down the line, meant less boundry throw ins, which meant less stoppages. I'm avoiding purely inside mids
Atkins - his first game at HB and looked very good. Didn't kick the ball a heap but when he did he had a long, direct kick. If named rd.1 he will be a POD and priced at 50!!

Briggs - I tihnk Flynn is ahead. Briggs was great first quarter but faded bad after that.
Will Powell - Looked unreal. Has the role. Sneaky late draft selection. Actually did well in defence at the back end of last year once he was moved off a wing and into that role. Looks set to continue. Definitely under priced but not sure what he is capable of. Think it's more in that 75-80 range but could be off
Markov - Liked the look of him. Bit like a Saad role for the bombers but saw more ball. Is bloody cheap, could be a go-er
Witho - You know my thoughts. I think he's certainly capable but you're right in the fact that there are plenty of guys around his price that also warrant selection
Cripps, Rowell, Seir, Green and any other inside only players - The only inside mid I have currently is Taranto but he also has somewhat of an outside game to him. Trying not to look too much into pre season games as lack of defensive intent and open play make them hard to read sometimes and it could just be that. But certainly someone like Rowell/Green is on my radar to keep track of. Not as bullish on Sier
Atkins - Does this role continue when Cats are full strength? Shadow89 best to answer this one
I'm loving how everyone is getting caught into thinking the game will be drastically changed based off of a week of pre season games.
Please don't let anyone say I didn't warn them that -1. This is a preseason game and will not reflect the actual stuff -2. The "stand" rule change is contrived and not thought out. It will have NO impact on the play whatsoever. -3. The reduced interchanges may lead to more tired players which will lead to more contests.
Avoid inside players at your peril.

Had only managed to play ~60-70% of games in his career to that point. Constantly getting niggling injuries. Couldn't justify picking a premium knowing (assuming) he'd miss 5-8games in the year. From memory I don't think his preseason that year was without it's issues.
He missed 1 game in 2020.
Locked him in as my first picked for 2021.... gets injured a few days later.

You’re not alone there. Though I do like a lot of the big dogs too. Zerrett, Macrae, Dangerfield, Dunkley, Taranto, Laird etc all hugely appealing

Like don’t get me wrong, I have a few of those listed. But those fwds and def midpricers absolutely killed it. With all these injuries happening it just makes it harder and harder not to pick them.

I really want Dunks, but don’t really want to miss the potential breakouts of Butters and Caldwell

I’d go the latter. Who knows how Bevo is going to play Dunkley now with treloar in the side.
