Surprising outcome.

I wouldn't think any happiness or celebration if a club wins would offend other people. I doubt we're all expected to mope around depressed all weekend.

I think more than ever we should be celebrating the happy moments in life, and appreciating those very moments, not putting restrictions on singing team songs after every match to curtail celebratory behaviour.

I was going to post the EXACT same thing. Strange and somewhat innapropriate reaction IMO.

Probably, but it's not certain.

Suppose Adelaide (with the fake "draw") finish 11-10-1, with a percentage of 110% and the Bulldogs also finish 11-10-1 with a percentage of 115%

In that situation the Bulldogs finish 8th, and Adelaide 9th.

But the reality is that Adelaide didn't really go 11-10-1. The "really" went 11-10 from 21 actual games played.

11-10 (52.4% winning percentage) is better than 11-10-1 (52.3% winning percentage)

So, Adelaide would have performed slightly better in their 21 games than the Bulldogs did in their 22 games, but the Bulldogs would be in the finals. On merit, Adelaide would deserve to be in the finals.
I disagree

I think the appropriate time for paying our respects is before each match, and on each club's website. With this decision to ban club songs after a win, it's like we're not supposed to show any happiness all weekend.

If we beat GWS this weekend, I'll happily belt out my club's song. It doesn't mean I'm disrespecting Phil Walsh by doing so - that's a completely unrelated issue.

I meant clubs. It's my opinion, so i could be way off base, but i think that would be the mo for most clubs this rnd. On a supporter level then that's an entirely personal thing and each one of us is free to do as they please. There's no right or wrong.

Agree on that point.

Removing the quarter/half/three quarter "activities" I'm all for. Permanently.

Agree, pressuring people to be sad after a tragic event is a crappy thing to do. There has never been a better time to celebrate the happy moments in life, I'm disappointed that (if we win tonight) it'll feel even more hollow due to the AFL-imposed lack of celebrations. Real dampener on something I was hoping to put me in a good mood after a horrible morning

I think it's common sense. The football world is supposed to be a family, particularly in these circumstances.
When a family member is murdered it's not common practice to go around singing celebratory theme songs
regarding a favourite football team.
I also think it would reflect poorly in the greater community, seeing on TV the news of his death, followed by celebratory singing
of various club football theme songs during the sport, or elsewhere this day.
It would be a poor look and seen as disrespectful by a large number I would imagine.
A judicious decision and the right one.

Should abandon the round
Personally I agree. I would have thought awarding every team the same or no points and abandoning the round would be
truly respectful and relatively even across the competition.
However I understand how difficult that would be to put in place regarding, tickets sold, travel and accommodation arrangements already made, ground management costs and TV rights etc etc.
I think it's been handled pretty well so far and you can never please everyone.

Not celebrating the win with a song or having anything all round makes it seem to me rightly or wrongly they almost dont want to play and its more oh well we better play for tv etc etc

Fair or unfair just a little odd not to at least play the winning teams song

Maybe tonights game should of at least moved to the monday or something

But there is no right way to handle this

Agree on the song, if the team is not meant to be happy about winning why are they playing?

Going to be like that St Kilda pre season when where they wouldnt smile and it was super lame.

No disrespect intended to the Walsh family and friends, but in our game if you win you sing the song.

Wtf!

The ladder is based on premiership points not winning percentage.

If a game can't be played 2 premiership points are awarded to each team.

Congrats to the Cats for supporting this. Hope my club and our fans would react similarly in the same circumstances.
I'm confident all our teams would be as supportive. There are problems in the wider AFL community, but respect is not one.

Don't like the lack of banners and team songs at all. If there's one thing I've learnt about Phil Walsh today, it's that he loved footy. Players who emotionally can't handle it should have a break, but other than that, let's play some football.

My personal belief is that both teams should have been given 4 points

Instead of 2 each I would have prefers four each ...why

We'll both teams could have won the game some figure give both teams four points and move on

But hey I'm not too concerned about it ..I think splitting is fine also

What happens to the Brownlow medal voting in this round is the biggest question for me from this Walsh tragedy.

I tend to agree with (in the interests of fairness) the sentiment that all games this weekend don't get votes due to Adelaide v Geelong being abandoned.

Perhaps a more pressing issue were there significant weight behind a Crow or Cat as favourites. Amongst the logistical questions raised its certainly a fair point, and will no doubt create some "what ifs" should certain players come within 3 votes of the brownlow, but as everyone's basically accepted it's Fyfe's to lose I'm not sure this will be addressed.

Loved the minutes silence, and the players all going to the centre after the game, really glad I went .....RIP PHIL. Xx
Agreed.

Pretty disgraceful though was the petty "code wars" article written by the Herald Sun about it though.

In a time like this is that stuff really necessary?
