Re: Official GVFL thread

Seymour PUMPED Shepp. swans by 5-6 goals, sorry guys but i do not rate Shepp. swans at this point of proceedings. Too many of them go missing when it gets a bit tough and Tim Looby......geez a few of you blokes on here pumped him up a bit but i'll tell ya he has to be a bit better, especially after that little fracar with Jeff Anderson for those that were there  .

I dont know why he would try and take on anderson. he is one massive unit. i know i wouldnt like to meet him in a dark alley way. :D :thumbsu:

Swans looked good for most of the second quarter, but lost the plot in the third. More interested in going the man and arguing with the umpires and never recovered from that two goal play early in the third. Good effort from Seymour considering they had some fairly handy footballers out of the side and Adam Reid only being on the ground for a few minutes after being crunched early on. Jim Kelly was carried off the ground late in the last in what appeared to be a bad ankle injury.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Eagles soughted the cocky saints out R.O.

Gee, i had a look at the Mansfield side on the Shepp News website and thought we'd struggle a bit ... good on them.

And as for the Swans, all the money in the world can't change the culture of a club!!

Re: Official GVFL thread

Laughable.

You haven't said why he is better at all. McCarty's skill, versatility, decision making and ability to do something special far outweighs Eishold, who is a one-paced, one-trick pony.

I wouldn't call Eishold a one trick pony and I wouldn't question his decision making or skill. The bloke played a fair amount of AFL footy (much more than just a handful) and whilst never quick was a pretty handy player for Melbourne. I'm pretty sure he was BOG in an elimination final against Hawthorn in 1990 for example.

Maybe McCarty has been a better GVFL player, and I suppose that's what the debate is about but I wouldn't be bagging Eishold too much. Also, Eishold's best years were spent in the AFL before heading up to Echuca.

Fair enough. I just can't stand him.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Had a look at the Rochy-Shep game and it was a pretty good standard, considering the conditions.

Rochy's forwards were very impressive. Bowen killed Mellington and Tank and Lobb were solid. Ash Watson left the ground early with an injury and only played about 10 minutes.

Umpiring was shocking. Shep got everything for the first half, and then they gave Rochy a golden run in the third. Rochy had plenty of chances in the last quarter to win the game, but missed 2 or 3 easy shots. Shep went forward with a couple of minutes to go and got a ridiculous free kick in front of goal. The ump gave advantage and that was the ball game. Typical Shep umpires.

Rochy should be alright this year. They have some good talls and mids. Heath Aitken, Matt Letcher, Brodie Montague, Andrew Palmer and a fit Ash Watson will improve them.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Tim Kirkman in the best players for Ky bombers. Anyone know why the former Shepp Swan is playing at the bombers now?

Re: Official GVFL thread

I disagree, McCarty was a better player in GV footy in my opinion.

Going back a few more years, I'd rate Robbie Miller from Rochy the best player I've seen play GV. He could play as a lairising CHB, or a blanketing full back. Was runner-up in the Morrison in '91 after missing 12 games.

did robbie ever play at Tonny? if this is the same bloke he was an outright GUN. might have played full forward?? at Tonny from memory?

Nah, Rochy born and bred. Other than about 3 years in the late '90s where he played at Ainslie in Canberra, he only played country footy with Rochy. Won the Wilf Cox medal in the '92 GF and played in the '99 Premiership as well.

He finished his career as a full forward, but he was just exhilarating at CHB in his younger days. In the days they used to have a player profile in the Weekender each week, 9 out of 10 times, he would be named "best GVFL opponent".

I think you will find that Robbie played at Tonny at some stage.

Was also a freak cricketer. Lightning.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Where do people see the Saints finishing after a few games? With McKenzie there main avenue to goal out with a hamstring could see the Saints struggle to kick more than 10 goals a game. With Macca out and Rick Symes still away off might have to play Porter at CHF to try and kick a winning score. With the draw that they have they could be looking at being 0 and 5.

If Knight had of kicked the goal at 13 minute mark last quarter they go up 13 points. Next miss was Lobb and go up 19 points. Both misses turned into goals up Shepp end it all became a matter of what if........................... Shepp better on the day and deserved to win but agree with Rowey Rochy could go alright with a full team and much better than last year.

Did he ever win a Morrison?
R Miller was a superstar in the early 90's along with some other GV legends such as Toot Morgan, Jon Soloman, Rocco Bagnotto, Stephen Ash and Glenn Cole. And a fella by the surname of Stuhldrier wasn't bad either.

Robbie was runner up in 91 and 92 in the Morrison, but never won. Such was the talent depth at Rochy in his time, he actually never won a club B&F. Made the All Australian Country team in.. '95 I think it was.

Reckon it might have been 94 same year Brad Sparks made it along with Andrew Johnston from Ky.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Just come through in an email from the GVFL.

Please be advised that the Mansfield v Kyabram matches will be played at Benalla Showgrounds this coming Saturday - April 28

Due to the Mansfield oval being affected by the drought, this game has been rescheduled as the first "home" game for the 2007 season.

Disappointing for the Eagles having to forgoe the home ground advantage, but after the weekend, maybe they'll be happy to get back on the showies.

The standard of the game was pretty good, considering the conditions. Shep looked like a pretty young team, but they played pretty well. They could suprise a few this year.
