Re: Official GVFL thread

The standard of the game was pretty good, considering the conditions. Shep looked like a pretty young team, but they played pretty well. They could suprise a few this year.

Well they've won the last 2 3rds premierships, so they have definitely had some talent go through. Matt Chapman, Chris Cullinan, Ben Kelly, Daniel McIntyre, Rowan Hiscock to just name a few.

Re: Official GVFL thread

If Knight had of kicked the goal at 13 minute mark last quarter they go up 13 points. Next miss was Lobb and go up 19 points. Both misses turned into goals up Shepp end it all became a matter of what if........................... Shepp better on the day and deserved to win but agree with Rowey Rochy could go alright with a full team and much better than last year.

dean moon missed the goal not phil lobb

Re: Official GVFL thread

I wouldn't call Eishold a one trick pony and I wouldn't question his decision making or skill. The bloke played a fair amount of AFL footy (much more than just a handful) and whilst never quick was a pretty handy player for Melbourne. I'm pretty sure he was BOG in an elimination final against Hawthorn in 1990 for example.

Maybe McCarty has been a better GVFL player, and I suppose that's what the debate is about but I wouldn't be bagging Eishold too much. Also, Eishold's best years were spent in the AFL before heading up to Echuca.
I think you are very correct about S.Eishold, was just wondering how he would rate in Echuca's best, in the past decade, I would have thought based on GV only footy, R.Archard, C.Scholl, A.Bryne and maybe, Durie, have matched or exceeded his achievements.

Got Mooroopna at $26 last week - big change, and Rochy has faded a little...

Re: Official GVFL thread

Just looking on the clearance list, Nick Ioranni is on his way back to Echuca United from the Shepparton Swans. Does anyone know why?

Re: Official GVFL thread

Anyone know of a bloke named Cameron Birch... plays or played for one of the Shep teams?

Costly times

The Easter game would had to have cost us $15 000 to $20 000 because it's the biggest game of the year.

April 25 2007
Shepparton News

A drought-ravaged Mansfield Recreation Reserve has cost the Goulburn Valley Football League club as much as $30 000 in the opening rounds of the season.
The Eagles will again be forced to move a home match to an alternate location to relieve the reserve's struggling grass after having already switched their first round match-up with Euroa.

Mansfield's round three clash against Kyabram will now be played at Benalla Showgrounds as a home game.

"It didn't come up (the ground)," Mansfield's Dennis Sheahan said yesterday.

"It was that close we probably could have played on it, but because it is still fairly young grass they would probably rip a lot out."

Sheahan said the lack of rain had left the club grappling financially.

"The Easter game would had to have cost us $15 000 to $20 000 because it's the biggest game of the year," he said.

"We're catering (and running the gate) at Benalla on the weekend, but we'll probably lose $10 000.

"It is no doubt a concern, but we can't really whinge about it because it's affecting a lot of people."

The lack of cash flow has also been felt by the players, with many yet to be paid.

"We normally pay contracted players after the first home game, but they are all understanding about that," Sheahan said.

"We just have to hang on and see how we go."

Kyabram president Peter Croxford said the Bombers were more than happy to have the game switched to Benalla.

"We offered Mansfield the swap, but after talking with them they are desperate for a home game for a cash flow," Croxford said.

"They will get more supporters there (at Benalla) and home grounds are very important early on.

"We will do anything we can to help each other out."

Sheahan said the ground would definitely be ready for Mansfield's round five clash against Tatura.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Seen Echuca's first 2 games and, while defeated in both, they look pretty handy. Very fit, running side and guns like Dylan Butler and Xavier Campbell are getting plenty of the pill. They will have a few great wins throughout the year and look a side to play finals. Depth mustn't be a problem too, as their reserves and u/18's have had 2 mammoth wins.
